Mortimer barely had time to register that his blade struck the formless creature in the eye, causing it to withdraw upon itself, and giving them the opportunity to just barely slip past. Though as soon as they made it by the ooze, the creature slammed down right behind them and started to give chase. It was not the slow, creeping movements that they had seen before, but much faster, and fluid, like that of rushing water.

The rogue spared one glance back to see the monster's eyes focused on the running pair as they sprinted to make it to freedom. They were catching up to the necrorat, and Adyn gave Mortimer an idea. "I bet that is what is regularly on the menu," He replied to the question in a huff, fishing out another throwing knife, and taking careful aim. "Let's see if we can give it an easy meal. We do not have to outrun it, just outrun the rat."

Throwing a knife while at a dead sprint was not the easiest thing to do, but then again what did they have to lose? Bring his arm down, and releasing the blade, Mortimer aimed low on the necrorat hoping to strike a leg, or stomach. Anything that would slow it down enough for them to run on by, and for the ooze to stop to feed. "Just keep on running, no matter what. Surely we are nearing the exit by now." He barked out confidently to keep spirits up, but it was truly hard to tell where they were in this maze of sewers.

Run. Run. Run.

They are starting to catch up with the nimble necro rat, the rat slows down. They may have not noticed the rat creating an acid ball.

Soon as Morti caught up and threw the knife the little rat throws the acid ball at them. Mortimer barely avoided the acid ball. Acid burns lightly on his right shoulder.

Luckily his attack ended the little necrorat as it hit the vermin between its eyes. Also, the acid ball got one of the ooze monster's eyes and slowed it down as it shows some sign of pain.

This allowed them to gain some distance before the big ooze monster started moving again, merging the dead necrorat to its body.

"Hurry!" A call from someone at the end of the tunnel.

PLOP!

Adynirach loses his balance and falls on the slimy floor. The ooze monster is catching up and threatens to 'merge' Adyn with it.

They were catching up to the glowing rat, but it seemed like it was slowing down for some reason. Mortimer did not give it a second thought as he threw his knife, but realized all too late that the rat was creating a projectile of it's own, one of caustic concentration. As the thrown weapons passed, the rogue only had a split second to side step, causing the bulk of the acid ball to miss him, and only getting his shoulder slightly singed in the process.

As it turns out throwing on the run was quite difficult as his knife landed right between the eyes of the necrorat, while he had been aiming for it's lower extremities. Nevertheless Mortimer vaulted over the corpse with little thought, and continued to make a hasty retreat.

There was a voice at the end of the tunnel yelling at them to hurry, and all the rogue could do was grin. "Tell me something I don't know." He shouted back right before he saw Adyn slip on the slimy floor. "Feth." Mortimer cursed as he tried to bring himself to a stop without falling himself, and grabbed at the man to help him up. "Get moving, this thing is almost on us." He barked as he tried to throw Adyn ahead of him, and take off running again towards the voice.

Oh, what he wouldn't do to have an elementalist with them right now who could rain fire down on this big ball of slime? "Hey buddy, can you do something useful maybe?" Mortimer shouted out to the voice who had told them to hurry.

"Nice shot," the rogue said at the landed blow. Adyn could admire a good throw when he saw it. And then he fell. Fancy that.

Well, he had to hand it to Mort. Even in the face of near death, the lanky fellow still stopped and attempted to help Adyn to his feet. Adyn would remember that, especially given that he wasn't sure he'd have done the same. There'd be time to feel guilty about that later.

"Doing my best," he managed between breaths as he attempted to get back to his feet and continue fleeing. At least the sound at the end of the tunnel suggested that the "locked until you finish the job" policy might not be so set in stone as it had seemed initially.

"That better be wide open!" he called out to the voice, fully prepared to never enter a sewer again for the rest of his life.

Slimers the big ooze monster just won't give up that easily. Agitated with the loss of its eyes, it would advance forward madly, Adyn's feet almost got 'merged' with it. Morti had to help Adyn walk, he sprained his ankle and couldn't run as fast as he can. With Mortimer's help though, they can move just fast enough to avoid getting dissolved into black and slimy death.

No response from the man on the end of the tunnel upon Morti's query. As for light, there is light, but unfortunately it came from a burning exit tunnel. They'd have to jump like a lion in the circus for that is their way out from Slimers. Adyn might remember from earlier that fire repels Slimers.

Helping Adyn up to his feet,
The two rogues had to beat a hasty retreat.
Ankles twisted, limping along
Slime at their back, coming on strong.
Hurrying forward toward the way out
He saw the exit covered in a spout,
Of fire. But there was no other way
They had to keep going, must not stray
"Hurry Adyn, the slimes is here"
Shouted Mortimer his face a sneer
"Through the fire, we must leap"
Jumping forward, faster than a creep
Through the door of fire
To escape was his only desire
"Feth the rats and the slime
Get me the heck out of this grime."

A jump, a leap, a hop, a skip
Through the fire at the fastest clip.

Adyn's ankle hurt something fierce,
that much he couldn't deny.
But the exit wasn't too far away...
He was so happy he could probably cry.

But as he limped forth with Mortimer's help,
he realized the exit was alight.
"Of course," he thought, "why wouldn't it be?"
They were having terrible luck tonight.

Still, he swallowed his pride and steeled his fear,
knowing it was forward - or back.
It was the choice of being burned during the leap,
Or risk getting killed in an ooze beast attack.

He'd take his chances with the ring of fire and death,
and waited for Mort to get through first.
It was the least he could do after Mort's earlier help,
Even when things seemed to be at their worst.

"Here we are," Adyn thought, as he crouched and prepared,
"It's now or never, here and now, time to go!"
And then he jumped, best he could, prepared to tumble and roll,
Once he cleared the blazing ring all aglow.

Adyn and Morti gave all that they've got and took the dramatic leap of faith through the fire, through the limit (through the fire, through the limit). Unfortunately for Slimers, it couldn't jump with and join the boys, it's a pyrophobic alchemical being.

Morti and Adyn, wounded and definitely reeking with unholy odors, found themselves in a clearing outside Arkdun. Beheaded mutated dead rats can be found on the ground as well as some people. They're assigned to not let any rats out into the wild.

There are others who are like them, wounded and the healer's attending to their needs.

Morti and Adyn, after all that they've been through, have survived, but after a while everything went black. Exhausted from the ratmaggedon, they slept on the floor together with the headless dead rats.

They'd wake up the following brightening in a room at an Infirmary in Arkdun.

As for Bastion and Elliot, whatever happened to them? Adyn must be very worried of his brother, Elliot's not in the infirmary.

Once he made it through the fire, and realized that he was now outside of the sewers, Mortimer felt his muscles slacken and relax. Lying strewn on the ground by the exit were corpses of dead rats that had been decapitated, and a group of people standing around in a circle blades in hand to keep the rats contained. "Thanks for the hand fellas," The rogue said sarcastically, trying to muster a grin before giving into his fatigue and injuries, collapsing onto the pile of beheaded rodents.

He woke with a start, and tried to jump out of the bed that he was laying in, but winced in pain at the sudden movement. Mortimer's injuries from the previous brightening did not seem so bad at the time, but the brightening after they felt ten times worse.

The rogue slowly got to his feet, and limped around the infirmary trying to find someone official looking. Mortimer did not plan on spending a moment longer in this Gods forsaken area, and just wanted to collect his pay, leaving this all behind him. "No more bloody sewers," He mumbled to himself. "Nothing ever good comes from sewers."
