Brotherhood of Maj Basic History Text
Written by Brother Amiddius Q. Piranesi, as advised by Brother Matthias

A Testimonial
"I entered the room, and there were naught but lights about me. On the other end of the room was a being shrouded in a hooded cloak, a longsword at his side, its pommel a brilliant blue. The voice that spoke to me was low, rough, and gravely. His tone was tense and excited. I guess it was his first time initiating anyone into the Brotherhood. That was what they called themselves. The Brotherhood of Maj.

"The Brother that stood before me spoke slowly, but every word was filled with absolute purpose. Had I come seeking knowledge? Did I deny the Archprelate and the Church of the Faith, proclaiming then heretics? Would I swear before the gods themselves that I believed that Maj deserved his rightful place in the pantheon, despite the other gods' ignorance to his claims? Would I attest to the glory and power of the Arch Archon? To them all I answered yes, unwaveringly, despite the fact that it took effort to keep my legs under control, to keep them from shaking or giving out completely. It's not every brightening one rebels against the Church of the Faith.

"He nodded, telling me I was of stout heart. I had completed the tasks he had asked of me, and knew I was not a spy from the Archprelate or her hypocritical bunch at the Church. He drew his longsword slowly, laying the blade across my right shoulder. Then he spoke the first part of words I will never forget until the brightening I die--'As the right hand of Maj, you will swear to hold sword in hand and defend with your life both our god and our order the Brotherhood.' Then, he raised it and set it upon my left shoulder, saying the second part--'As the left hand of Maj, you will swear to hold tome in hand and research information to better our god and our order the Brotherhood.' Then, raising it again, he settled it on my head, speaking the last portion--'As the mind of your own, you commit it and all that you are to the Brotherhood, using to the best of your ability your talents, skills, and desire to further our god and the Brotherhood .' Then, the sword snapped up, he held the crossbar level with his eyes as he asked the question of finality--'Do you accept and bind yourself to this creed?' It was with trembling body and numb mind that I answered the only word in my mind--'Yes.'

"It was then that he drew back his hood, and I gasped in utter astonishment as he finished the ritual, saying 'Praise be to Maj, Arch Archon in the pantheon. Praise be to Maj, god in our hearts.' Who I saw was Tey'shin It'siall--one of the Prelates of the Church of the Faith."
