James de Rothchild

James de Rothchild was a former Imperial Consul during the reign of Emperor Valerian Constantius I, and later became Regent of the Aelyrian Empire. He peomulgated an edict in 10101 which made the practice of all necromancy illegal and ordered necromancers henceforward to be punished for the use their arts. Rothchild specifically empowered the Church to oversee the detection and expurgation of the necromancers. He sent the Imperial Legions to besiege Vortex when its City Council had issued an official approbation for necromancy. He ordered the Imperial Senate to convene nearly 200 eras after Emperor Valerian Constantius I had ordered its dissolution.

He was attacked by a young fian gnome by the name of Taskaburrow, who had slashed him with a poisoned dagger, causing him to fall into a coma.

He was succeeded by Alexander Nighthawk, whom he had previously appointed Imperial Marshal, as Acting Imperial Regent. The Aetherfracture temporarily revived him, but the stress of this event and his subsequent transfer to Aelyria Prime via the AFS Khatakera proved too much for him. His final official act was to confirm Nighthawk as Imperial Regent.
