The man bobbed his head at her agreement to keep an eye out, expecting it to be left at that. It seemed that his time in Medonia had been spent forming some valuable business relationships, and he found himself quite satisfied at how well he had progressed so far. Surprised, however, at her mention of not having to pay, the man cast her yet another wary and confused expression. He considered the replacement deal she offered instead.

"I see... spare parts. That is.. reasonable." He made mental note of this even as he spoke, considering that it would not be too much added effort to add more items to his list. The added weight or bulk to carry back might become an issue, but in exchange for valuable leads, he could find his way around it.

It was at this point that the woman produced just what she had been fiddling with. His face contorted at the sight of it, wondering what use she would have for a toy. He stared at the thing about as deeply as it saw fit to stare at him, leading him to start a little when the thing finally hopped in their direction.

His bemused expression shifted back to her when she spoke again, but then a look of understanding slowly began to dawn upon his face. Ah, he understood now. These curious items were merely puzzles for her, ways to sort all the jumble that had twisted circles in her brain. He could relate with such a feeling, although he was convinced that his own thoughts were surely more organized than hers. Still... he could appreciate her need for a challenge... for a way to occupy the mind from the rest of the world around her. At least in one's work, the problems one faced were the sort that could surely be overcome. To the sorts of puzzles Aeyr and Genie might tackle, there were always answers on the horizon.

It was more than could be said for the rest of things.

His green eyes found the frog again, and then the satisfied smile on the woman's face. There was some manner of connection there that he saw fit to form. For the first time since they had met, Aeyr felt that perhaps he could make sense of the oddity before him. It was this that caused the severity of the man's mouth to soften somewhat, and his voice to carry on a slightly milder tone when he spoke again.

"You have a deal, then, Ms. Genie. I will be sure to let you know if I find anything of import to you. And in the meantime, if you have anything you would like to request of me, I am always open to new projects."

As his smile softened and his slightly kinder tone turned towards Genie, her eyes widened at him. Just what was happening in that brain of his? He must have really liked frogs. She wondered if he'd had a pet one when he was younger. Maybe he'd gone on an adventure and a frog had helped him out in some way. No, he didn't seem like the adventuring type. Perhaps he had just read a book about frogs and thought they were interesting. Genie could relate. She wasn't much the sort to go a-frolicking either.

But he seemed to like it. She didn't need it. If she found a need for one, she could just make another. It wasn't like wind up frogs were difficult. There really wasn't much to them, just some cogs, screws, and springs. Rather rudimentary at best.

Her thoughts were diverted by the man deciding the end of their conversation. It was just as well, she should probably return to her own inn room and see about finishing some of those projects she'd brought with her. She didn't know how long she would stay in the city. She'd only meant to come deliver the pen and pick through some rubble. But that seemed to have maybe changed now and she found herself wont to linger just a little longer. Just to see what happened. Maybe she should tell him so he didn't go galavanting to Jaedaxia to get more ink. Not that her ink should run out that quickly. But still, one never knew when one would be in need of Genie's genius.

"Sounds great!" she said finally when her new partner was done talking. The woman stood and held her hand out to him to shake on their new deal. That seemed pretty customary in situations like this. She was sure she'd seen it done before. Whether or not he shook her hand didn't really matter to her anyway. Her mind was already starting to drift back to her room. There was something enticing waiting for her there, and she had an inkling of an idea that threatened to drift away for a very long time if she didn't get back to it immediately.

"I don't know how long I'll be here. But I'm staying at..." she told him the address of her own inn. It was just a little nicer than this one. "...in case you needed anything from me." She checked her bags to make sure they were closed and her journal was properly stowed. Once that process was done, Genie's eyes met his and she smiled brightly. "It really was nice to see you again, Mr. Aeyr. And you can keep the frog if you want it."

Aeyr stood in the moment that Genie did, finding the exertion of conversation to have become taxing for him by now. He was brushing his clothing to smooth again when he realized she was holding out her hand, and he quite visibly froze at this. It wasn't as if he hadn't shaken someone's hand before. It was just that... it was always so incredibly awkward. Touching people had always been such a task for his troubled brain.

Still, they seemed to be leaving on a good note, much as he could tell from his limited experience in the ways of interaction. So the man steeled himself and made the extra effort, reaching out to clasp the woman's hand in his own and give it a firm, if not swift, shake. His eyes dropped as he pulled his hand away.

"I see," he said of her address, and of the fact that she seemed unaware of how long her trip to Medonia might become. He took the moment that she was checking her bags to maneuver toward the door, one hand finding its way into his pocket and the other upon the doorknob. There he paused, only to see her beaming in his direction.

Again, a look of confusion. How she could maintain such energy and buoyancy after such a tiring ordeal, he would never understand. And again with the "nice to see you". Truly, she was mad.

Still, he dipped his head in acknowledgment, a motion that stopped halfway when she offered him the frog. He opened his mouth to decline, eyes staring back at the strange toy as he realized he would have no idea what to do with the thing. Any glance around the room would tell Genie that the man barely kept frivolous ornamentation, save for perhaps that photo that remained face-down upon the table.

Still, the gesture of kindness was a foreign one to him - or at least the recognition of such might be - and he found himself unwilling to throw it back in her face. Instead, he reconsidered his words as he opened the door for her.

"Have a good brightening, Ms. Genie." Perhaps he even meant it.
