Kruol Gaadish is a great ArchvillainKruol Gaadish is a great Archvillain
[Edge of Enamoria] Lucky (Private)

Continued from here ...

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGG! "

Kruol felt himself tumble and roll … on soft, swell-smelling grass.

DISGUSTING!

His head and ribs hurt but he was fixated on one thing: his handsome brother. Or was it sister now? The disconnect between what he has known all his life and what he was looking at was profound. And it nearly caused the orc a nervous breakdown.

His blood brother was now a perpetual reminder of his lost love. How cruel this Sneerous-god was! He vowed to punch that vile lord of trickery in the face if he ever reached those isles of the sexy-chicken-ladies again!

Plucking his scattered armor and weapons nearby, Kruol tapped Arrg’s flank with a booted foot. The stone-fleshed ex-warg roused like a cat. Stretching and purring as she did so. Kruol growled in greeting and his former brother pounced on him happily. “FETH IT!”, howled the black orc as he was pressed onto the ground and licked profusely by the delighted beast. “NO! BAD SPHARRG!” That was the monster’s new name. Sphinx-warg-arrg. Spharrg.

Springing backward with surprising ease aided by his immense wings, Spharrg’s amber eyes widened and he panicked briefly, causing him to land haphazardly. He made a hissing sound, akin to a cat trying to loosen a fur ball, before becoming distracted by his delicate feline paws.

Kruol groaned, watching the giant half-cat-half-eagle-half-woman playing with a pretend ball of yarn on the grassy meadows before him.

He would kill Sneerous for turning his monster into this.

There were, clearly, some adjustments to be made. The newly christened "Spharrg" felt great - physically - but at the same time, was just as much surprised by his newfound appearance as his brother orc. Why were his eyes suddenly at the front of his face? Why did scratching feel so different? What the feth was going on on his back, and where the feth were his hooves? Most importantly, what was that little swishy-thing at the end of his tail (not at all like the few stiff and handsome bristles of yore!) and why couldn't he catch it????

With a final twisting leap, the warg-turned-sphinx managed to catch the end of his tail between his teeth and began to chew furiously, one still oddly-beady eye trained on Kruol as if to say "see? Aren't I awesome? It's not every worg that can catch his own tail, you know!"

Yes, this was definitely going to require some adjustments.

Unfortunately, there was no 'Sneerous' - or, really, anybody - in sight on whom the orc could take out his frustrations. Only lush grass, blue sky, and flock of crows cawing and circling in the distance.

Kruol was still in deep thought as Spharrrg chewed on his ponytail.

The monster was clearly having a blast, but the One-Eyed Hammer was heartbroken. He had never felt like this before, not without a severe chest wound or a spear to the gut. No, this was a different kind of pain. It was the feels.

And he hated every ounce of it. He pondered how the other races could deal with these ... these ... emotions. It made him feel mad, insane with grief, but also angry. Very, very angry.

He shot Spharrg a dirty look even as his brother/sister continued chewing on herself. Himself? Feth.

Adjustments were a bitch. Like Sneerous. Oh, he was going to punch that fool in his peace-looking face.

"AKSKRATT!", he shouted at the sphinx in Orckish. If his brother was still in there, the creature would know to heel and sit so that he could mount easily. At least the sexy chicken ladies knew how to build his new beast. It fit him perfectly even though it was strangely arousing to be on top of a sphinx ... these were very confusing times for the orc.

He grunted, signaling for the sphinx to "GO". Which, he assumed, would involved running. Or flying. Or generally something.

If he was going to readjust to this new beast between his legs, he would need to discover what he/she could do!

Two tufted ears perked up and Spharrg sat back on his haunches, paws in front and slobbery tail swishing lazily behind. There was a bit of an issue with what to do with the wings - exactly how did one fold them to present a look of complete attentiveness and eager willingness? - but in the end tucking them back with almost military precision seemed to work.

It wasn't quite what Kruol was used to, but there was no doubt that Spharrg was heeling and sitting just the same.

But sitting was the easy part. What about going?

That proved rather trickier. First off, the orc realized even as he jumped onto his mount's back that he'd have to sit a bit differently than before in order to accommodate the wings now jutting out from Spharrg's back. Spharrg also felt a bit leaner, less "bulldozer" and more "sleek fighting machine", if you will.

But the real problems emerged when he said the word go. At first Spharrg took off as pretty as you please; in fact, he was actually going faster than he had ever done before. But then there was the matter of wings, which spread out naturally as the worg-turned-sphinx gained speed. His bounds turned into longer leaps, the time between when his feet touched the ground getting longer... and longer... and longer...

... until the erstwhile worg realized that he was actually in the air and, surprised to see the ground so far below him and his paws flailing madly in the air, his wings stopped beating and the two tumbled back down to earth in an ungainly heap.

They'd hardly flown, really; more like took a number of long leaps that held the promise of flight. But the going was definitely different, that was for sure. And perhaps having a single term to describe "going" was no longer going to suffice.

NO MORE BULLDOZER!!!?!?!?

The One-Eyed Hammer seethed in furious fury. Yet cunning dictated that he at least considered his new options. Having wings was no small boon. Even if Sneer-ous and his sexy chicken ladies had cursed his brother into winged-sisterhood, not all was lost.

His thoughts were extinguished the instant they were both airborne. FLYING!

But he felt Spharrg float, panic, and the pair crashed just as quickly.

“FAARHGGGGHGGHHHHHAHAHHHHH!”, swore the orc as he spat more sweet grass and rich soil from his mouth.

He paced around Spharrg for a few moments, studying his broth--- sister beneath a toothy frown. She seemed just as surprised as he was; but deep inside this winged machine was his monster. Perhaps, just maybe, he could turn her into a terror of the skies.

Crouching down next to her, Kruol sighed. “Ju fly?”, he asked of Spharrg rhetorically. Then he nodded toward the expanse before them. Then he whistled, which was a sharp noise. If Spharrg was going to fly, she was going to have to learn to do so by herself. First step was to associate the new command (the whistle) with the act of flying.

And... they tumbled. Kruol hit the ground hard, though really for an orc it wasn't anything to write home about (not that an orc would ever write anything anyway). He ate some grass, tumbled, then tumbled some more.

Spharrg? Spharrg... crashed. The transformation had left the worg leaner in appearance, true, but he was now after all had an almost stone-like skin that was, not coincidentally, also stone-like in its composition. That is: heavy. So instead of tumbling, Spharrg just made a big old mini-sphinx-sized dent in the earth.

Nor did the little tumble seem to have hurt the former worg in the least. Spharrg hoped up, stretched his wings, and then turned to grin at his master as if to say 'look what I did!'

But then came a new set of orders, and Spharrg cocked his head to the side in a sign known throughout the animal kingdom as the sign for "whaaaaa?"

What the what was a whistle supposed to mean? Spharrg stared at Kruol for a second, then hopefully proceeded to try to bend himself into a pretzel to try to get at his tail again. Maybe his brother orc wanted to see his tail-chewing skills again!

Kruol watched his bizarre brother trying to eat his/her fething tail. His whistles were not exactly getting the point across. The head tilt prior was proof of that. Grumbling (and spitting out some more aromatic grass!), the One-Eyed Hammer pondered his station in life.

His monster transformed into a mini-stone-chicken lady. This was confusing to his manly parts. He was in love with her! Now his brother was one of them?? Shot in the heart but it’s too late, Srennius gave love a bad name.

On the other hand, he had a stone-monster-lady-thing with a warg’s brain. That could fly. The rock skin was also exceptionally durable. A crater beneath Spharrg was evidence of this. His brother/sister was mostly indestructible. That would be useful. But how to control it? And train his stone beast into flying with him mounted?

Idly, Kruol plucked a rock and threw it far and wide. This was one of the first things he learned to do with the fugly-ass monster he called his brother. Transformed or not, he knew that Spharrg was still his. Perhaps he’d remember how much he used to love to fetch.

Squirrel!

No, wait... Rock!

Spharrg's head flew up, arcing along with the trajectory of the flying object. Yes, indeed, somewhere in there the orc's old buddy still existed - it certainly wasn't in a sphinx's repertoire to chase stuff, certainly not with the merry abandon with which the wharg-turned-sphinx shot after the rock, tail straight behind him, tongue hanging out of his mouth (which was really odd-looking, given that his face was now human-ish) and his wings spread out to either side.

The rock was high, Spharrg was low, but he knew that if he just leaped - a bit - then he'd catch it, and the promise of catching made Spharrg forget everything else. Leaping, his wings instinctively beat once - twice - and he shot up higher in the air than he ever could have before, snagging the rock between his teeth before arcing neatly and oh-so-lightly back down again. Nothing like the rolling, snorting, heavy thump-thumping that he'd done before.

Immensely pleased with himself, Spharrg trotted back to where his master still stood, every now and then giving himself an extra little boost - a spring to his step, if you will - with a quick beat of his wings.

Reaching Kruol, Spharrg sat, the rock (now positively encased in spittle) firmly between his teeth, and his eyes communicating with the same old puppy-love of yore: again?

Well, that was easy.

Spharrg trotted back. TROTTED. Kruol growled heavily but received a pang of pride when his monster returned with rock between his teeth. Yeah, it was going to take some time to adjust to that humanoid face looking back at him. On one hand, Kruol wanted to bash it in. On the other hand, it was the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. On the other-other hand, HE MIGHT BE THE FIRST ORC TO RIDE A HUMANOID-FLYING-CHICKEN.

Still, Sree-nus? Feth that guy.

”Rock”, the One-Eyed hammer barked holding his hand out. Then he made a ‘omph’ sound. This was traditionally the sound Orc Wall-Breakers shouted to unleash catapults. So it was really a sound fit for the battlefield. Warg Riders relied on their reins and legs to control their mounts. High-pitched whistles carried farther than spoken commands, too. So this would likely be a new ‘word’ for Spharrg.

Then Kruol threw the rock -- this time he did so up, straight up into the air. “Omph!”, he told Spharrg. FLY!

A momentary scuffle ensued as Kruol tired to take the spittle-covered rock and Spharrg had a moment of doubt about whether they were playing "get the rock" or "tug of war". In the end, however, the orc proved triumphant, and Spharrg sat back on his haunches, eyes glued to the toy.

"Omph!"

For a second the worg-turned-sphinx wheeled around, prepared to dash after the rock, before realizing that his master had used his superior skill in trickeration to try to fool him.

Up!

Turning his spin into a leap, Spharrg neatly twisted in the air, nose straining upward after the rock. Instinct again took over, with Spharrg launching himself off his back haunches into the air and then beating his wings rather frantically in an effort to pursue the rock as best he could. Up he went, mouth open and nose straining forward, the noise of his wings loud and altogether extremely flappy.

And... chomp! From down below all Kruol could see was the lionesque behind of his mount twisting neatly, his body nearly summersaulting in a way that seemed hardly possible (and would, in fact, have been entirely impossible for a worg) before Spharrg began his journey back down, landing with a heavy thump and a few side-steps of his new paws. All in all, though, the worg seemed to have acquired a modicum of cat-like grace to go with his lionoid body. And the flying - the flying was definitely getting better.

Spharrg thumped his tail on the ground: this was awesome.

Again?!

Kruol grunted in approval when Spharrg returned with the rock. The flying was getting better. The lioness-female creature was learning to associate the new command with flight. This was useful, too.

Now the orc tried this a couple more times, sensing that Spharrg enjoyed the exercise quite well. His intention was to tire out the sphinx-warg to determine how else the transformation might have altered his brother's physiology. Wargs were akin to wolves and hyenas, preferring bloody meat to anything else. When he was a pup, Kruol remembered Arrrg burrowing head first into carrion and falling asleep surrounded by gore and meat.

Did that filthy Sneer-ious make his meat grinder into a vegetarian???

Bracing himself, Kruol attempted to calm down without the need to break his own arms off. He wanted to see how his winged brother/sister reacted to fatigue and hunger. What did chicken-ladies eat? If his brother was made of god-stone, did this mean that Spharrg was also like the immortals that did not feth, shat, or eat?

Kruol's patience was about to be tested, because when a whorg - even a sphinx-turned-whorg - had a good thing going, that good thing was going to go for a long time.

Up when the rock, and up when Spharrg! Down went Spharrg, and then back up went the rock! The flying did keep getting better - it was especially noticeable in the landings, which, while they would never be termed graceful, did get rather less thud-y - and, eventually, Spharrg did become tired.

Actually, he became tired rather quicker than the orc might have expected. But perhaps that's what happened when one was testing out some brand new muscles and when one's body was the opposite of svelte.

Kruol could recognize when the point of no return was reached when his companion began worrying at his tail in earnest and the bushy tip began to look more like a ratty mop than a brand new broomstick. Definitely hungry, and looked like meat was still very definitely on the menu.

Pleading eyes gazed up at Kruol. They'd had a busy brightening: they deserved a nice fresh meal, didn't they?
