What does karma and reputation represent?
Quite self-explanatory questions. I am not quite sure about this any more. What does karma represent? What does reputation represent? Are they something about the fame and alignment of the character or relationships between players behind the characters?

It doesn't mean anything. Its an arbitrary click of the mouse. If someone doesn't like you they'll ruin your reputation with one click for spite. It has nothing to do with the game. The reputation points were supposed to represent outstanding posts or rping but are used to click on for other arbitrary reasons by some people. Again neither have anything to do with your roleplaying or status in the game, its pretty worthless

Karma means what others characters think about yours. So if Theldor sees Gardolan murdering anyone, be sure that I'll give you bad karma .

The original intention was for Karma to represent how other characters see you, while reputation was intended for comments on how good/evil your actions are. Reputation gives a nice way to comment on people's posts, but otherwise I don't really use it

Rep comments are anonymous to all but GMs and GDs, too. However, any of the MT can check to see who made what comments on whose rep, so its not an excuse to be nasty !
I think of them basically as a way to give feedback about people or make a comment if I particularly enjoyed their post. It has no real IC bearing or anything like that, and is easily disabled if you don't want to participate... So its basically just a little fun tool you can use to evaluate other people's characters and leave them notes.
I personally like the rep thing simply because on my mod account it says "Trinity is a glorious superhero" which is awesome. I always wanted to be a superhero.

Trinity IS a glorious superhero ... the rep got it right .... I'm just a grouchy dwarf ... but Tiarela should be one and she's not so it proves my point! hehe

Actually, ONE click can't ruin your rep or your karma
It all depends on the voter and your collective votes.

What I can gather from this is that there are no strict rules on how to use Karma and Reputation. And they are used differently by different people. So.. I can use both either to comment on good/bad rpging or character alignment. I'm confused

Stray
rep no ... karma yes ... can make you a extremely controversial character when your pc is not ... I had a pc who had not yet done anything evil (though contemplating) and one stroke put her as an extremely controversial character which stuck ... anyway though they're not actual I use the rep to tell people I liked their post when I see something I like which is a nice feature to have
Gar
and yes it is confusing and means little but a lot of people use it for whatever reason ... like I said I like being able to tell someone they made a great post

Ah, well if you don't agree with your karma / rep you can always request a removal via HD Ticket

And no one knows more about these things than my own dear relative. No one has given out more karma than his his combined accounts. Well.. than all the combined accounts of people in House Leonard, anyway.
