Faerie Weapon?

Hi Aelyrians,

as you can see I'm starting a new character. She's a faerie. Although I know that faeries are not that big at combat and fighting, I think she should have some kind of weapon, just in case. Now what I'm wondering is what weapon does fit a faerie best?

I was already thinking about some sort of blowpipe, but that sounds rather boring to me. I was also thinking about something that could be prepared with poison (she might pick up a poison skill). But I really have no idea about any other weapon. Help please?

Yay for Faeries !

I've considered picking up a bow skill and either poisoning or imbuing the arrows once I get a high enough Mysticism skill to learn imbue... then shooting tiny arrows at people.

I've seen faeries pick up sword-type abilities, but all of the weapons would have to be really small so you'd have to coat it and focus not on actual swordskill imo, but more on stabbing someone enough to get the poison into the bloodstream.

What kind of weapon would you like to use if size wasn't an issue?

(p.s. this thread is probably going to get moved to the Questions forum, in case it disappears and you wonder where it went!)

No, I don't think that a sword skill would be fun (or even useful). I'd like to go for something light and easy to carry, just like a bow. I've seen someone doing sling, but that should include a special type of throwing material and I'm not sure about that. Poison, silver, fire?

Well, she could pick silver and at least be able to hunt vampires, hehe. (I don't know whether the silver rule counts for Aelyrian vampires, though ...)

A faerie wouldn't be able to penetrate anything bigger then a hamsters skin with a sling : p Poison dipped weapons are you best bet if you want to get anything down and fast. You could attempt to slash an artery open with a blade of course, but it would require a lot of effort.

Arcana is your best weapon. A ranged weapon with poisoned projectiles the second tbh. You just need to find a venom potent enough to work in such a small dose.

I doubt silver or fire would do much on regular weapons. I doubt silver even works on our vampires. But yeah, Arcana can make a Fae into a very nasty opponent. Small size and flight even make it useful at the lower levels.

Train a falcon as a mount and get little poisoned javalens to throw at high speeds? I know Faeries can fly already, but I'm not sure on the speed of their flight.

Teyala has learned the Sling, mainly to throw imbued acorns at opponents.

I know that Arcana is a faerie's best weapon. Just want to find something apart from that, something more combat. Now I think I'll go for a simple bow with the possibility to poison or imbue arrows.

How does imbuing work anyway? What can you do with it, what's the big advantage?

Well, essentially you "pack" a spell into an existing item. Imbued items are different from enchanted items because imbued items have "charges" to them before they are completely done, but an enchanted item will restore itself over time.

To use an imbued item, you can focus on the item (instead of on mana/essence blahblahblah!) and use the apprentice technique "Activate" to release the spell stored inside. Basically.

The advantage to imbuing an item is that you basically can cast a spell without any requirement of your own mana. Essentially, its a way to precast for later so you don't have to use your mana reserves, or alternatively, don't have to worry about trying to achieve clara in a sticky situation if you don't have a staff.

Another quirk about imbuements is that if you chip them / injure the item somehow or focus / channel when activating it incorrectly, it can act like a small bomb and explode. Which is why people with many imbuements on them are dangerous to wrestle with, and why imbued or enchanted swords are generally bad ideas.

Remember also that you can make 'single charged' imbued items, which are basically items that can be broken to release a charge of the spell imbued. Though they are one use only, they're quite useful since one does not need to Activate the spell for it to be released. They also don't suffer from the 'exploding' problem since, supposedly, their make-up is so simple as it only contains one singular spell.
