Suggestion Box for the Player Team
What the title says!
Basically if you have an idea that the Player Team can pick up to support players both new and experienced, then post it here. OOC guides and resources for gameplay, nudges about updating stuff that needs rewording or editing, ideas for off-topic fun in the tavern, suggestions for streamlining stuff - anything really. This suggestion thread will be regularly responded to by the Player Team. If the suggestion is one that's out of the remit of the Player Team, it will be passed on to the appropriate folk. Or if the suggestion requires wider input from the community, a symposium thread will be created in response.
There will be feedback to the community regarding what the Player Team is working on in a General Forum newsletter - such as this one, - so you may want to check the latest one in case what you've got in mind is already in hand. But otherwise, please feel free to drop off your ideas here.

And just pointing out that this box is still here and open. I take it as a good thing that there's been no suggestions yet, but we're always happy to hear your thoughts etc.

I just wanted to point out that there are a few inconsistencies presented to the new player who clicks on the "Quick Start" link.
When you click on "Starting Packages," you are told that all new players must start in Aleyria prime, unless the player is a veteran.
However, from there, if you click on the Character Creation link, you are told that all new players have a choice of which city to start in, and are refered to a list of cities looking for new players. Again you are told that it is not recommended that new players have custom starting packages. However, in several cities on the list of cities looking for new players, the local GMs encourage new players to take custom starting packages.
It's not actually difficult to figure out what to do and what is allowed- if you click on all the links. But a new player who doesn't click on the "Character creation" link under "Starting packages" and instead creates their character from the "Quick Start" menu, would have the impression that they had to start in Prime and not have a custom package. I think it would help to have the information be consistent from all sources.

It used to be consistent as in everything saying new people needed to start in AP, so it has actually improved already. Not sure why they didn't change it all at once, but the Starting Package problems has been pointed out to those with editing power and there's not much else I can do except wait
Never noticed the Quick Start though. I'll add it to the list.

I just thought of another suggestion.
From the Quick Start menu, clicking on the "Skills" link I am informed that characters often learn a second language in school. Language is a hypertext word, but clicking it takes you to a form to create an article about languages.
I think that it would be good for someone to get around to writing that article. At a minimum it seems that there should be a list of available languages to choose from, if in fact people are to be encouraged to pick two of them. I would be happy to start that process off if no one else wanted to do so, but I feel a bit awkward about defining part of a complex world that I've just started participating in.
I also think it would help the beginner if the skills section defined the scope of a skill, and maybe included a paragraph on what sort of things a person can do without having a skill. Can I ride a horse at all, or do I fall off immediately without the Horseman skill? Can I swim well enough to keep from drowning? Can I cook a passable meal?

The languages would be for the WF people (I'll go poke them).
The skills thing is a good suggestion. I'll see start a thread on it in the WF

Here I am again! Aren't you overjoyed to see me once more, both picking and nitpicking?
I am in the process of learning the sphere of Song. I am informed that as an initiate I am able to cast 3 spells per day. As it happens I was previously aware of this, having seen it mentioned in another thread. However, I still haven't found where the information is written in the official rules.
I think that this is the sort of thing that a new player who may be choosing to have a mage character should find in one of the more obvious places (like the Arcana section of the Skills Primer). For that matter, I think the Arcana section of the Skills Primer ought to contain all the basic game mechanic bits, such as the table that tells how long it takes to cast a spell for casters of each level of experience.
It's hard not to break the rules if you don't know they exist.

Overjoyed indeed
I prodded the Arcana WF to have it added. Funny how you don't notice those simple things. I'd keep the Skills Primer as it is though as it only needs to give a general overview of each skill. We have Arcana primers to cover the arcana parts and we have mods overlooking everything to help those out that missed a rule

What do you do if later you realize that you posted something to the wrong place?

You just PM the mod in charge of the forum. You can find them at the bottom right of each forum. If there's no mods, just start a Help Desk ticket
Edit: just saw it's in the Welcome forum, so where do you want the post to go?

Help files scattered all over the place!
Wanna figure out what the empire looks like? Go into Gallery, under cartography.
Want to know the date and time measurements? Go into lore.
Want to figure out arcana? Go into the compendium.
Surely, it's possible to see the error in scattering all these vital pieces of information all over the place?

It hurts my brain. I just click them all at the same time until I find what I'm looking for. Thank god for tabs.

Lore -> Maps works too instead of the gallery. Basically, clicking Lore should work for most things as it normally has links to both the compendium and the wiki. Starting Guides can be found under the Help section.
I'm not a wiki-fan myself, but there's nothing I can do about it

OK, now I've noticed that there actually is a moderately useful wiki entry on languages, but this link isn't linked to it. I still think it would be nice to have a list of languages to choose from, but just fixing this link would be much much better than nothing.
