[Traveling] Accompaniment of the Rotund
Sorry about the wait, school schedule is totally screwed up due to impending exams
Thread continued from here
Brightening 26 of Cryxatum, Summer, Era XIV PF
A candlemark before the breaking of the suns over the horizon Ranen Figgers ran a finger along the curls of his beard. True as promised, he sat on the bench of a newly refurbished wagon. Despite the knicks and scrapes on the wagon's body it had new axles and wheels that shined a speckled orange, their copper bands not yet darkened and besmirched by travel.
The body of the wagon was stuffed with a number of very large trunks, heavy wood affairs with iron trappings. Whatever the merchant was hauling it was quite an amount. There were five of them all as tall as the dwarf and lined up in a neat column behind the drivers bench. Ranen sat leisurely with the reigns to the donkey at the front of the wagon across his lap. Atop his head was a red hat that poofed out in a floppy mushroom shape to keep his shined head from sunburn. He sat calmly looking out at the growing light of the scenery just outside Portshire's gate.
"They should be here any moment."

IC:
Kavene had been waiting for a while now, he just had yet to be noticed. He was up on one of the highpoints of the town, looking down on the dwarf wondering if it was worth the crowns. He was waiting to see if the others would show up, if they did, he would grab his supplies from the house and be on his way...

"Ibus Imuph'hep of the Imu'ph tribe, At your sevice!" Ibus bowed deep, Smiling excitement and serenity upon his face.

Kavene saw Ibus pop out and greet the dwarf. The pantheri sighed, it was his turn now as well. He quickly jumped down, ran home, picked up his pack, full cantenas, oil holder, roap, and wood, and ran back to the spot they where to leave from.
"Hail, lets put these two peices of lumber up in there... if there are mudholes, he can use these as a makeshift bridge. Where be dominic?"
OOC: Got mine, just waitnign for you to pay dom, plz Pm me when your ready

Dominic was not good with early mornings. Darkening after darkening, he stayed up until he was too tired to move before crashing into his bed, and then waking up with half (or all) the morning gone. Of course, the previous darkening, he had made a special effort to sleep early, but he was still the last of the three to arrive - though, he was no more than a quarter of a candlemark late, if that.
He came dressed a bit differently than his day-to-day attire. He wore the same simple pants, belt, and boots, but his loose white shirt now hid a snug and silent ringmail shirt underneath. A dirk, about a foot in length, was secured at his belt. Over his shoulder hung a satchel containing all other belonging for the trip, which included a few basic supplies, and in his hands was the package of dried meat Ibus had requested.
Finding his group rather quickly, he tossed the package into the hands of Ibus before eyeing the wagon they would be protecting. Ranen had quite a bit of merchandise, which Dominic was curious about, but of course he refrained from asking. The wagon looked reliable and the group was all assembled. "Serale, all," Dominic greeted, nodding at each one of them, "how goes it?"

Kavene was slightly annoyed that Dominic was so late. The trip was long, and the faster they got to there location, the faster he would beable to collect his money, and leave the rich obnoxious dwarf.
"We be a bit behind now... I say we start moving..." He had thrown his belongings into the back of the wagon. THe only thing he had on him was his black cloak, and all his 7 knives stratigecally placed within...
He didn't care about the cargo, only that there might be people he would have to fight off to protect it.

In the wait Ibus had picked himself a nice place on the carriage, only fair that he would seat. He had shorter feet after all. He put his pack by it. Towering from the wagon Ibus decided it was time to go too.
"Yes, hoop on you. As soon as Master Ranen Figgers explains his clever rout we go." If the others dint mind he would take the much needed lead, He was used to be running the show. But he knew he had no authority over them,"Kavene I suggest you mind the front, You are the fastest on foot so if we need you to scout Dominic can take over. Dominic would you be minding the sides please? I shall guard the back and will be sitting on the crates."

He planned on hitching a ride on the wagon and the little furry friend wasn't going to stop him. "I think it would be best if I walked on the side opposite from Dom beside the carage as well. We don't need someone walking in front, we can see foward... Besides if i was in front, who would be watching that side flank flank..."
He walked to his side of the carge, then making sure no one but Dominc saw him, grabbed the top of the carge and held on, with one foot on the ledge, showing dominic how he could ride, and conserve his energy. He then quickly hoped down and leaned against the covered wagon, waiting for them to leave.

OOC: Sorry for the wait guys, I have three presentations in two days for school so I may be a little lacking postwise for the next day or two.
The dwarf looked down from his seat on the wagon to regard the exuberant lutran. He nodded and his curly beard shook as he spoke, "I appreciate your enthusiasm." The pair waited for a little while for the others to arrive. The dark corner of Ranen's mind tugged at his thoughts that they had taken his crowns and shoved off. But, the dwarf put away such nonsense surely they were inclined to make some easy crowns escorting him on the benign path from Portshire to Diana.
Indeed, Ranen traced a stubby finger through the curls of his beard when the the pantheri showed. Still the two long rough hewn boards made the dwarf scowl as they were hoisted onto his already full wagon of goods. "It is just the two of you, the human is yet to show up. Can always count on humans and elves to be late." He continued to stroke his beard as they waited on Dominic. Visible on his pudgy fingers were a plethora of tiny scars and rough, lightened skin indicative of calluses.
The suns continued to rise out of the horizon and slowly push their way into the sky. This made the dwarf a bit surly. Ranen had asked them to be early so they would have a full day traveling. Every moment that passed as the suns rose into the sky was a moment closer to darkening and stopping for the night on the road. The whole point for leaving so early was to forgo an extra darkening camped in the wilderness.
Dominic showed and the pantheri gave him a little bit of scathing for holding their expedition back. The merchant picks the reins up off his lap and snapped them, "aye, you're late." As the wagon began to creak forward Ibus handed out detail. The dwarf held no indignation for Ibus riding, as a fellow short leg he knew the lutran would have to half jog to keep up with the long-legged pace. Before Ranen bought the wagon there was no room for him to ride on the cart and he was forced to make the whole trip on foot and it slowed the procession considerably.
"Nothing clever about it, just follow the road." Ranen pointed to the mountains in the distance. "Diana's on the other side of those peaks, see where they die off? The road cuts north around them and on to Diana, much faster than heading south and taking a pass, savvy?" He listened idly to the details and was chagrined to find objections being made. They traveled in relative tranquility. Still when Kavene tried to hitch a ride the merchant noticed his donkey taking a half step to adjust to the new load. He exploded in a deep booming voice.
"Get off my wagon! I'm already carrying your asinine lumber and an extra passenger, it's only a donkey! Why don't you run ahead and scout like the lutran said, look for ambushes, I'm not paying for you to ride your lazy bum."
OOC: For future reference it's not necessary to wait on standard purchases, unless you have a thread between the purchase and the current thread in which you might use or lose said items. Of course if you're buying items that would require mod attention you would need to wait.

"Forwards my friends, the road awaits us. Lets deliver this safe and true!" Ibus said pointing to the horisont. He knew in his heart lest they leave right now, the dwarf might explode again. "Serale Portshinre, wish us luck!"

Kavene nearly fell off the wagon when the dwarf boomed, but he quickly turned it into a graceful landing. He cringed, the shook it off laughing, "Ye be hauling mi lumber so that YE can get safely and quickly to YE destination... Stop complaining and ordering mi around or ye will loose the only one here who has experience killing people..."
He frowned, "Once again, we need someone watching the flank that i was on when im up ahead. Sorry Ibus but ye will have to walk for a bit..." While he took off he restated over his shoulder, "Ye know ye hired mi to gaurd ye cargo, not ye, nor to order mi around, so shut ye trap ye rich perch"
He started sprinting up the path, but then quickly got to the side of it so he could get to the top of a hill. He quickly climbed it looking around for any signs of danger. He was a fair distance ahead of his companions as he was a fast sprinter, and they where moving slowly thanks to the pack animal only being a donkey.
He looked again, in a complete 360 degree circle, all he saw was plains and...

Ibus jumped down to walk, but he started to guide the donkies. Making them pull the carrage. The sooner them was off the sooner they be back.

The rest of the group already seemed at odds - Dominic had been a few minutes late, which seemed to disturb everyone quite a bit (while Dominic thought, what was the difference of a few minutes?), Ranen was annoyed at Kavene for standing on the wagon, and Kavene was angry at Ibus for sitting as well. As for Dominic, he was rather irritated by Ibus for being so quick to command. Dominic never liked taking orders or obeying commands, especially from someone who had not yet proved their worth.
Minding the sides. How was Dominic supposed to mind both sides? The way he saw it, he could be on one side or the other, and that was about it. But it was too early for him to be complaining, so he simply began walking on the left side of the wagon. Kavene ran off to the front to do some scouting - Dominic was glad that he didn't have that job; he had no desire to waste energy running about if they were going to be walking all brightening for three brightenings. But then Ibus went to the front to tend to the donkeys.
"Ranen c'n take care o' those, Ibus," Dominic said lazily, watching the Lutran. "I thought you said you'd cover the rear - and a bit o' the right side, if you please."

The dwarf gave the pantheri a flick of his pudgy hand to get a move on. Ranen spat onto the ground and mumbled under his breath something about katta and donkeys. Soon the assignments were doled out fittingly and the group plowed forward in relative silence. In half a candlemark or so they arrived at a spot where the road widened considerably and became an intersection dividing off to the four main directions.
Of course they took the western route. It was not until late in the day when the suns already started to sink out of the sky that a dot broke through the horizon, made a black silhouette by the suns behind it. It was moving up the road in their direction.

In his plan Domenic would be driving the cart but he might have overestimated Its uses, the greedy dwarf had surly been saving as much as he could.
"Shure friend, not a problem."
Not beforelong had they left. And after a loooong walk of looking behind and locking right somthing finaly semed to happen faaar faaaaar up the roads.
"Whats that ahead? That black dot?" It made Ibus un easy.
