[location] The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development
The month of Cryxatum in the Longest Winter, Era XVI.
Background Philosophy
The work had been progressing ever since that meaningful
discussion on the island of Mnemonya. The ministry building had been vacant for a long time but only required spit and polish and a plethora of desks to turn a shell into a hive of activity. It was indeed a grand building but so were the ambitions of the prince. This new ministry would help to lead the new nation away from the travails of the past sixteen eras into a new more modern era of a shared self belief. This ministry was charged with building roads and infrastructure that would eventually link the vast tracts of land that is the Aelyrian Kingdom of his Royal Highness Prince Milo the First.
The ministry which quickly shortened its unwieldy name to the acronym T.I.D has been set up to react to the pressing needs of the nation. It has long been recognised that communications between cities and provinces has been poor, it simply takes too long to travel from one to another. This represents security risks and is a direct challenge to trade. Thus a partnership between the needs of the nation and the legions has been forged with the direct support of the Minister of War and the Prince. We shall build roads and the legions will be charged with the building of the main highways which will both aid their effectiveness and support trade and commerce within the kingdom.
It is not only roads that will concern the TID the infrastructure of the kingdom requires a new hand and a vision for the future. Not only a practical vision but a new style that will allow each citizen to be proud to be a valued citizen of the nation. The time has come to look to the future no longer will the government react to the events of the brightening but shall be seen to plan for the long term. Thus a call will go out for a public debate as to the shape of the nations buildings. The prince has made it known that for the first time it is the people that will drive this new future. Thus the T.I. D will actively seek out opinion and comment from all citizens with a view as to the new style of Aelyria.
We are also very aware of the diversity of the nation long standing traditions and architectural styles are to be embraced, incorporated and valued. Thus as part of the new design of Aelyria full and enthusiastic representative of the diversity and common values we share will be recognised and celebrated. This philosophy will accept that the proud histories of the diverse peoples will not be swept away on the drawing board of progress only that from a shared sense of our common history and traditions that the diverse styles shall be incorporated but only with the will of the people.
The Building
This old edifice has been the home to many government functions and can be found standing proud in the very centre of the forum in Aelyria Prime the epicentre of government of the nation.
As with all government buildings entrance to its marbled portico’s is guarded. Security guards have to be negotiated and they will ask in polite terms your business this brightening. Once credentials have been established the twin dark wooden doors are opened and the visitor is faced with a wide corridor of black and white chequerboard tiles leading to a wide staircase giving access to the upper floors.
At the bottom of the stairs and to the right, sit’s the reception desk manned by a pretty 19 ordinations human female , the brass plate at the front of her desk declares.

Lady Meyra D Jones (Reception). |

Meyra will answer questions, direct visitors and double check visa’s all with a smile and a bob of strawberry blonde ringlets, she may look like a flibberty- gibbet but Meyra has followed her adopted father around the nation on his travels and learned some of the harsh lessons of government in all its forms. Sparkling violet eyes will peruse each visitor and a soft voice will say
Serale, welcome to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development how may we assist you this brightening?
Up the wide stairs to the first floor the traditional dark polished wood panels abound dotted here and their with paintings. These are unusual for a staid government buildings , the grim portraits of civil servants of the past who all scowl in disapproval down on guests of the ministry have been removed to be replaced with colourful views of countryside and city all painted by young artists.
Off the corridor are rooms offices and workplaces, large airy sun lit rooms full of drawing boards waiting for designers, architects, painters and model makers to ply their crafts. The ministry hopes to attract the talented the imaginative those who see beyond the now and can dream of a new future. The future that can be translated into bricks mortar stone and wood.
At the far end of the corridor sit’s a fine old desk personed this time by a lady of advanced ordinations how many ordinations the secretary will merely wink and hold a finger to her lips if enquired about. Persuaded out of retirement from the dubious pleasures of war torn Sheria.
The plate in front of her desk proclaims

Clarisse Von-Dribblepot-Rioja (Reception). |

Clarisse has been with the minister from his earliest startings in Trysvale. She is stick thin with a pair of new fangled spectacles slipping down her bony nose. Her hair more grey now than silver blonde is neatly tied up in a bun, she wears long dresses of dark blue and sensible shoes.
Clarisse is the final guardian of the inner sanctum, the door that tells all visitors who have made it this far that behind the final barrier resides Baron Austerfield Palacrisis D Jones of Sheria, Minister of State - The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
His nibs sits behind an antique desk on a fanciful chair of green leather which artfully allows him to swivel and rock .[It took the minister a few brightenings to work out how to best use this chair and poor Clarisse had to dash in a couple of times as the old boy had managed to falloff the said chair]
Chair aside, this was a grand office overlooking the inner courtyard that sits in the centre of the square office complex . Doors lead away to upstairs apartments and to the engine rooms of the ministry. Brown wood lined office walls shining with bees wax polish. Palacrisis had purloined the best examples of artwork to decorate his rooms interspersed with maps and large book cases. Rich carpets adorned the floor, more green leather armchairs surround an inglenook fire place, drinks cabinet and side tables surround the walls. In the centre of the room is a long black wood table that will be used for conferences. Comfortable even opulent this is a room to work in and from.
The business of the future was the purpose of this complex of rooms corridors and staircases and here the new face of Aelyria would begin.
