Tome Rules of Conduct

Rules of Conduct

Aelyria has a comprehensive Code of Conduct that outlines our procedures for dealing with public misbehavior on our site. When users violate one of our rules or guidelines, our staff can impose sanctions ranging from a friendly warning not to do it again, to assigning infraction points, to even punishing and expeling serious offenders from Aelyria. Aelyria is nurturing and welcoming of families and their children; we are a family-friendly and child-safe zone on the Internet. The Rules of Conduct are easy policies you should follow to ensure that you do not get in trouble while using Aelyria.
  1. Treat other members with respect and dignity.
  2. Hateful speech or ideologies will not be tolerated.
  3. Do not post inappropriate or explicit content.
  4. Do not use profanity or strong language.
  5. If you have to be negative, at least be constructive.
  6. Do not post copyrighted or plagiarized material.
  7. If it is illegal in the states, don't talk about it here.
  8. Do not advertise another site or game.
  9. Remember that this is a game: have fun.

1. Treat other members with respect and dignity.

Do not flame. Flaming is the act of unfairly disparaging a person or a person's post. It's not wrong to disagree with someone, but on Aelyria it is best to disagree by stating your own opinion and backing it up with fact, rather than attacking the person's character or integrity. Do not make personal ("ad hominem", "bashing") attacks.

Do not troll. Trolling is being negative, disruptive, or discordant, or encouraging others to try and be negative, disruptive, or discordant. Aelyria is intended to be a nurturing and supportive environment for creative people, families, and members from diverse backgrounds; please keep it that way, and refrain from posting unless if you have something productive or positive to contribute.

Do not misrepresent yourself or mislead others into thinking things that are untrue about you as a person. While deception and intrigue are exciting parts of our game world, making insinuations designed to defraud others is strictly prohibited.

2. Hateful speech or ideologies will not be tolerated.

Derogatory comments regarding race, religion, creed, gender, nationality, ethnicity, sexual preference, or disability are unacceptable. Aelyria is a community designed to appeal to a broad audience from wide and diverse backgrounds; we are a family-friendly, child-safe zone on the Internet. Hateful ideologies have absolutely no place in Aelyria (unless if it is purely fictional hate, such as racism between in-character races in our game world), and users that intentionally post real-world hate on our site may be summarilly banned without warning.

3. Do not post inappropriate or explicit content.

Aelyria is a fantasy world in the tradition of faerie tales, mythology, fables, and folklore. While this is a world of great conflict and strife, gratuitous depictions of detailed violence are inappropriate, so please do not post this sort of material. Additionally, sexually suggestive or implicit events can happen between consenting characters, but it is best to leave out depictions of explicit sex or nudity by using the "elipses" method, or "fade to black". Keep Aelyria at the PG-13, or T-rating, level so that it is appropriate for children of all ages and their families.

4. Do not use profanity or strong language.

Obscene material, including real world profanity or strong language, is not appropriate for Aelyria. If you would not say it in a public place with children and families present, like a park or a restaurant, please do not say it in Aelyria. Of course, fictitious profanity or original curses are both appropriate and welcome, because these can interject humor or frustration for our literary characters during the course of telling a story. Make certain that any fictional words or curses are completely unrelated to any real world profanity.

5. If you have to be negative, at least be constructive.

Please don't whine. Whining is complaining about something without offering a solution, or a way to fix it, improve the situation, solve the problem, address the issue, etc. Giving feedback is appropriate as long as it is constructive and done in the spirit of improving Aelyria or helping others enjoy our game and our site. Complaining for the sake of complaining is whining, and will not be tolerated in Aelyria. While we are family-friendly and child-safe, we are not your parents; please go whine to them.

6. Do not post copyrighted or plagiarized material.

Aelyria is an original creative experience, which draws its inspiration from the faerie tales, mythology, fables, folklore and legends of cultures throughout the world. It is not appropriate to post ideas, plots, or storylines that are ripped out from other sources. We have the highest respect and reverence for intellectual property, and believe that authors, musicians, artists, and creators deserve recognition and rights behind their works. Do not use copyrighted material without express, written permission from the copyright holder or the creator. Submitting copyrighted material, under any circumstances, is inappropriate for publication in Aelyria and will not be accepted.

7. If it is illegal in the states, don't talk about it here.

Aelyria is owned by Play by Post LLC, a company based and operated in the United States. Accordingly, it is not appropriate to participate in activities, or engage in discussions, that may otherwise violate the laws of the United States. This means that there should not be discussion about underage drinking; illicit drug-use; software, music, video, or product piracy; hacking or cyber counter-culture; etc. While we both welcome and embrace members from throughout the world, because we are a responsible legal and commercial entity in the United States, this rule is qualified very simply by our deference and respect to United States law.

8. Do not advertise another site or game.

Aelyria is not intended to be a promotional service or open directory for other sites or games. Aelyria is for Aelyrians. Keep discussion, promotion, advertisement, or mention of any other game, site, product, or service outside of Aelyria. If you have to ask whether a site, game, etc. that you would like to discuss falls into the category of what would be considered "advertising", it is best if you simply do not post about it and err on the side of caution here.

9. Remember that this is a game: have fun.

Encourage fellow members to have fun by being positive and supportive of their efforts to play. Be welcoming of new members, keeping in mind that you were once a new member yourself. Aelyria is not intended to be a forum to discuss contentious issues or real world controversies, such as politics and religion; there are many sites on the Internet designed for this purpose, and Aelyria is not one of them. In order to ensure that Aelyria remains focused on fun and the game, please keep any real world controversies or contentious issues outside of Aelyria at all times. Treat the game and its players with respect and courtesy, and participate in Aelyria only when you feel like participating (i.e., do not "force yourself" to participate, and do not abuse Aelyria when you are "bored"). Always have fun, but make sure you are not having fun at anyone else's expense.
