[Falcon Legion Compound] Searching for Marcus Ledormas

48 Melora, Era XIV PF

Tarfuss left the Provost's office and made his way through the broken city. He was reporting to his new boss, the Marcus Ledormas. He'd never heard of him, he had no idea what to expect and wasn't sure what anyone expected of him, other than the fact that he'd do his duty like any good Legionnaire.

The sun was starting to warm things up, summer was almost upon them and the suns were starting to bake the ground that had been roasted in the fires of battle.

Arriving at the gate to the Compound Tarfuss spoke to the man on duty.

"Shield Deakin Tarfuss to see the Marcus Ledorma."

Daekin

Suddenly a swift hasrh seasoned voice ripped through Tarfuss's ear. "Thats Daekin Ledorma to you! or SIR!" the voice blasted obviously irritated. If Tarfuss turned around he would see a Imperial Daekin standing there, he was a dwarf actually about three feet high with a very well kept beard and tied back scruffy looking hair.

"So what the blasted are you looking for me for then?" he asked sharply looking around the room at the falcons wondering how the blazes the boy knew he would be here giving some reports on criminals in the area.

Tarfuss wondered if everyone in Paxia was so ill tempered. He wondered if he stayed here long enough if he wouldn't develop a permanently foul mood and an ill temper. He was beginning to think he would.

"Sir! My apologies. I was not given your rank. I was sent here by Provost Elsdragon. I was told to report to you, Sir." He decided to keep it brief. He doubted that the angry sounding dwarf was fond of idle chatter.

The dwarf glared at Tarfuss for a moment. "Alright then! Follow me," he would lead him off into a side room. "Sorry for being such a hard ass out there, orders to keep military in line around the public but to be a little lax. Hard to be balancin I say, ah well. So what are your orders then? More or less our orders?" He asked impatiently.

The Provost hadn't given him very specific orders. He was accustomed to orders that were specific. Go here and kill that. Go there and fetch the other. Specific. The Provost had painted in broader strokes than that.

"Deakin Ledorma, the Provost said that he wished to have the training of the local militia become more intense. He stated that he wished for Paxia to have the finest of fighting forces. He said that was to be my assignment, under your command, for the time being. I am at your orders, sir."

The dwarf nodded. "Well that is what we be doing the," he said motioning to follow and he would lead him out to the main area of the Falcon Legion. "Im looking for your training officer, we have instructions to assist in the training of the Falcon Legion." he said with a grunt.

OOC: Alright this is where I step out, since I don't know what Striker has planned for the Falcon's I can mod them, he will take over this thread to mod the falcons and the like, you have control of the dwarf for the time being. He is your superior so you don't get to give yourself any boost up because your modding him. :P I will keep an eye on the thread aswel. I will let striker know about the thread.

Tarfuss followed Deakin Ledorma out of the building and into the compound. Work was being done and there were a fair amount of personnel about. They were more lax than the Jade had been, but the Jade was the recruit Legion, and therefore by nature very strict. If these people were to become one of the best fighting forces in the Empire, as was the Provost's request, discipline would have to tighten up.

The soldiers that they had walked by hadn't acknowledged the Shield Deakin, but worse they failed to acknowledge the Deakin. Walking up to the group of Legionnaires Tarfuss bellowed, "A-Ttention! " The men came to a vague resemblance of standing straight. Tarfuss grabbed the nearest one and threw him to the ground, shouting "That's NOT the position of attention you half witted son of a cow! Push ups, all of you! Begin!"

The group sullenly got to the ground and began their push ups. The Deakin Ledorma gave a sidelong glance to Tarfuss, a small smile on his face. "Looks like you have your work cut out for you lad."

Tarfuss frowned and ran the men through a cycle of conditioning until they were covered in sweat. "Now, Attention!" The Legionnaires snapped to with considerably more alacrity than previously. "Next time you see an Officer you will come to the position of attention and you will render a hand salute!" He left them with a glare and continued on his tour of the compound with Deakin Ledorma.

Although the Falcon Legion had been relegated to a mere glimpse of its former being, it nevertheless remained the pride and joy of dilapidated Paxia. When the Imperial Legion had become idle in their encampment to the south of the city, it had been the Falcon Legion who had risen to the challenge of protecting the two thousand or so refugees still dwelling within the city. And when the surviving orcs of the invading army had waylaid the ruins, it had been the hundred remaining soldiers of the prominent Falcon Legion who had repelled the waves of brutish scoundrels.

There was not a brightening that went by where the exploits of the diligent soldiers was forgotten.

To the northwest of the city where the original Falcon Legion Headquarters had been situated, a smaller and lesser version of its original form had been constructed. The training grounds had been reduced to barren fields no longer occupied by the finest equipment that the city had been able to purchase, but rather the dust and debris of fallen military structures. Still, like their predecessors, the remaining generation of the Falcon Legion continued to work as diligently as ever.

As Tarfuss and Daekin Ledorma arrived upon the scene, they would be greeted by a most impressive sight. Arranged by five rows and the same number of columns with ten men in each row, each of the soldiers were accoutered in identical apparel, a purple uniform bearing the crest of a legion itself, a Black Falcon. In their arrangement, each soldier exercised control of their swords, the wickedly curved Ear-hyanda standard of their unit. They moved as one body, every sword shifting from side to side, up and down, as they continued through their routines.

Facing the group of practicing soldiers was a single elf, slender like most of his people but noticeably toned muscularly. Unlike the others, however, he stood watchfully, occasionally pointing out errors in form and timing. He appeared to be the present overseer of the squad.

Tarfuss marched with the Deakin as they approached the formation of men that were out on parade. They were an impressive sight. They appeared impeccable in their uniforms and bearing, and the defeat of the enemy had spoken for their quality under attack. Tarfuss wasn't sure what the Provost was looking for when he told him to improve on this. He was a simple Shield Deakin, only recently promoted from Senior Legionnaire. He had only begun to learn what it was to be an NCO. He strangled his uncertainty down and kept his military face on. He looked confident and placid. Whatever it was he was to do, he'd do his best.

Having noticed the arrival of the two legionnaires, the elfin instructor casually departed from the ranks of synchronized soldiers, all of whom continued to practice uniformly despite their trainer’s absence. It was clear that they had rehearsed the motions before, and thus they seemed undistracted by the appearances of the two Imperial soldiers.

The elf’s slender arms swung by his side as he approached Tarfuss and the Daekin Ledorma, and as he tilted his head in slight greeting, his long raven locks teetered in front of his face before being pushed back by a sweeping hand.

Can I help you, gentlemen?” He asked, piercing blue eyes shifting from the dwarf to Tarfuss.

Tarfuss looked at the elf. He didn't appear overly friendly, nor did he seem entirely antagonistic. Tarfuss was surprised that the elf didn't recognize Deakin Ledorma who he had been led to believe was in charge of the garrison. He chose to wait for the Deakin to address the elf. He noticed that the soldiers on the field continued their maneuvers.

Hearing the looming silence that the dwarf let stretch out before them Tarfuss felt compelled to answer the Elf, if nothing else, as a courtesy. He took a better look at the elf and if he found an indication that he was an officer he would render a salute and the proper honorific.

"Serale. I was sent here to train new recruits. These troops look to be veterans. Perhaps you could point to the recently recruited civilians."

You must be Daekin Ledorma then.” the elf realized, and he bent at the waist to impart the level of respect that the Imperial officer was due. Quickly straightening, the Falcon Legion soldier then spared a single glance to Tarfuss, awaiting his introduction before continuing.

I am Lieutenant Nysal…” the uniformed elf explained, “…overseer of the Falcon Legion’s training and responsible for the rearing of new recruits. My staff has been heavily overworked as of late. I am grateful that you both are here.

Tilting his head forward in a nod, the elf bade for the pair to follow him past the synchronized formation of veteran soldiers until they reached another adjacent field where a similar arrangement of civilians was being organized. Their sluggish posture, however, and the uncertain manners with which they wielded their practice wooden swords were indicative of their newness to the whole military lifestyle.

Turning back to Tarfuss and Marcus, the elf’s gaze watched them curiously. “These men and women require elementary training in the long sword. Normally I would do it myself, but given the Legion’s limited numbers, my presence is needed elsewhere to patrol our borders.

Tarfuss nodded as the officer explained to him the situation. In nice small words that a simple NCO could understand. Finally. He had found out what he was to be doing, and to whom he'd be doing it. He looked at the recruits, who looked like any bunch of civilians given some military gear and told to go to it. Their lines were ragged and they looked about them like they were in the park with their friends for a picnic.

He turned back to the Lt. and came to attention. He said, "Sir! We'll shape them up for you and get the basics into them. We'll make them troops you'll be proud to lead into battle, Sir."

He looked out over the field of civvies in uniform and wondered how many of them would wash out, how many would make it and if they realized what they were in for.
