[Government District] Paxian Savings and Loan Bank
The Tylag Moonstar Memorial Savings and Loans /Trading Post had been the working title, but Duncan had convinced Roland that it was sometimes best not to have your name on something. Both had recently weathered the financial peculiarities of Diana, so Roland had agreed.
It was not immediately obvious that this was a bank. On the outside, it looked more like the ruined fortress it might once have been, a building abandoned by the Falcon Legion due to war, fire, and personnel attrition, now restored by the House Moonstar Construction Company. There was not yet time or supplies to waste on the niceties like a facade or a good paint job. A half-dozen stone steps led up to a heavy, reinforced oak door between a quartet of Ionic, fire-blackened pillars. Armed guards stood at attention on either side of the door so that at all patrons felt safe and secure in the bank, both personally and financially.
As someone entered the building, the guards would look them over before letting them in.
From the carefully etched gilt chasing, it was evidence that a master stone-crafter had crafted into the wall above the door the words "The Bank of Paxia: Trading, barter, savings, and loans."
The interior of the Bank of Paxia was every bit the fortress as it seemed on the outside. The floors, walls and counter of the bank were all fashioned of the same stone that the exterior was, giving the customer the feeling of already being in a secure vault even when just first crossing the threshold to get inside. As the initial staff of the bank were people Roland assigned from the refugees, many of the tellers wore outfits more appropriate to wilderness survival than banking, though the Lord Protector hoped that the people of Paxia would appreciate that money wasn't being wasted on frills.
Illumination came from a chandelier that hung from the ceiling above, the sole fixture from the fortress that had not been renovated. In homage to the building's past, the walls were decorated with pictures of various past and present soldiers from around the province, Falcons, Crimson Tigers, West Wardens, including a flattering portrait of Jedidiah Moonstar who had served in Paxia's Dragonhead Navy. High tables were set up for people to stand up and write on, and the back row was where all the teller booths were located. Downstairs led to the vault, and one could find the manager, as well as private rooms to discuss loan and business opportunities. Upstairs was currently empty and closed.
A small female Lutran with green eyes and a visor to match stood at the only open teller window. Her nameplate identified her as Mrs. Leora Lotholt. "Serale and welcome to the Bank of Paxia Trading Post. We barter, trade, give loans and house your crowns. We honor all accounts opened in Paxia and around Arium province. Good Brightening, and may I be of service?"
