Located in the Outlands, surrounded by patches of forest, this moderate-sized yet quiet patch of earth serves as the last resting place for non-Kemites who have died within the city proper. Roughly one thousand individuals once residing in and around the great city of Zinn'Sunn now spend the rest of eternity buried beneath the soil of this cemetery. Although not as extensive as the Kemite Catacombs, this place is still expansive as it is the main burial site for all non-Kemites in the area. There are many other public and private burial grounds around Zinn'Sunn yet Gaijin's Rest is one of the larger ones.
During the light of the brightening, the cemetery appears harmless enough although a sense of loneliness fills the air. When the darkening falls however, everything seems to take on a more sinister feel as the shadows thicken and strange sounds can sometimes be heard. Whether or not it is all a part of one's imagination or part of a darker reality is uncertain.
A tall stone wall topped with iron fencing surrounds the burial grounds while four tall, double iron gates allow entry. Most of the burial sites are below ground; marked only with simple stones baring names, dates and occasional extras. There are however a small number of above-ground stone sarcophagi as well as a sprinkling of small and large mausoleums. The latter house more influential, wealthy individuals who were able to make a name for themselves as non-Kemites in a Kemite land.
Viewing Room
Rites and rituals are held on occasion by the few surviving family members still residing in the area although visitors are somewhat rare. In the center of the grounds stands, a moderately-sized stone building that serves as the Gaijin's Rest Mortuary. Upon entering the mortuary one immediately steps into the main viewing room. This where, if desired, friends and family may gather and give last respects to the deceased. It is used primarily when more private and formal rites are desired as opposed to graveside proceedings. A small door to the right of the viewing room leads to a smaller room used for a variety of purposes from a priest's preparation room to extra storage or even an office if need be. Also to the right of the viewing room is another door leading to a small chapel that offers religious services if requested. It is not dedicated to any particular deity and offers some seating and a small dais with podium. To the back of the viewing room there is a large curtain that grants entry to a small hallway that leads to platform suspended from the ceiling by a series of ropes and pulleys. This is a 'Body Chute' that allows transfer of a body from the main floor to the basement. Nearby is a set of stairs, also leading to the basement.
Chapel
In the bottom of the stairs there is a small open area with two doors. One door leads to the Curator's office while another leads to a hallway with four doors. The first door opens up into the Embalming Room where bodies are processed and prepared for burial. There are three stone slabs set up with small wooden tables next to each. Shelves and cabinets hold a variety of tools and supplies required for body preparation. A door to the back of the room leads to the Cold Storage where a series of seven small chambers have been dug into the stone wall. They are each large enough to hold roughly any sized humanoid except a giant and are covered by heavy iron doors. A steel sheet set on wheels allows for the body to be easily put into and taken out of the storage chambers.
The second door in the hallway leads to the Crematories where two large stone furnaces are located. Those bodies to be cremated are brought here for the procedure. When finished, the ashes are gathered up and placed in an appropriate receptacle if the remains are to go to friends or family, or scattered about the cemetery grounds otherwise. A small storage vault accessed through a heavy locked door in the room holds a variety of urns.
The third door in the hallway leads to the Coffin Workroom where coffins are built and prepared to receive a body. There are coffins laid out throughout the room; all in various stages of completion with shelves, tables and counters holding all manner of tools for the job.
Finally, the last door in the hallway leads to a general storage room where all manner of items from burial clothing, sheets, miscellaneous tools and a collection of personal effects belonging to deceased individuals yet not claimed by anyone are stored.
Back outside, there is a separate building with a large pile of stone next to it. This serves as a storage building for tools as well as workshop for various cemetery maintenance projects utilizing both stone and wood.
