To Help a Neighbor (Part 2) - Azazel
17th candlemark, 26th brightening, Thera, 3rd cycle of Junctior, season of autumn, Era XIV
Several candlemarks had past since the elf had left the katta known as Matsume. It was now well into the afternoon heading towards darkening skies. Azazel had demonstrated his knowledge of the basic katana techniques, which seemed to pacify the katta. He was now alone searching for camp. The katta had given him some general directions, but the elf found it difficult if not impossible to locate. The terrain was hilly and trees covered much of the area he was to be searching. The area actually seemed devoid of life. Azazel felt tired and hungry.

"Just my luck, I had to leave without thinking about how long this could take or food or water." He said under his breath. He was starting to really hate the wildness around here, this lifeless land was making him sick.
Trees but no real life, as an elf one would think he would enjoy all the trees around him and be able to find a simple camp with ease, sorry he failed that part of life. If he kept this up he would be in bad shape, if hungry got to the point of danger with him he would start to get dizzy and in a fight that would be bad.
He made up his mind as he stopped looking for the camp for now, he had to find some food. He could still find some food and find them before the sun left but if he could not find it both he was in a bad position. He had to wait until nightfall for him to look around the camp as in the sunlight it was a death wish.

Azazel searched for anything that would pass as food. The lack of sleep and physical activity of the day weighed heavy on him. Nearby he found several bushes and a few felled logs rotting along the ground. There were items that would nourish his body, if he could stand to eat them.
Off in the distance, as the autumn sun dipped its tired head beneath its earthly pillow, a howl was heard. Somewhere, echoing in the night, a wolf was singing her praises to the rising moon, welcoming it. As her song continued, a chorus rang out in the still night.

He saw fungus, bugs and berries. All day of looking and he found this, luck hated him. The berries were a dark purple, small size. The smell was like a rotten honey as he put it in his mouth he felt sick as it broke open. spiting it out before he would throw up he still felt a bit sick and dizzy. The bugs and fungus were left.
The bugs were beetles and worms. He picked up one of the worms, slimy was one word he thought as he started to chew it and swallowed it before he wanted to throw it up. The beetles tasted crunchy.
The food, it was sad. He ate a few more beetles and worms before laying down on the ground. He could not keep this up much longer and now the wolfs were coming out. Maybe wolf meat would be better then bugs but killing an wolf was hard, harder in this state.
His options were few, slowly but quickly at the same time getting fewer as the sun left. Maybe luck would shine on him soon. Ikos maybe he should had learn it. He would if he lived after this.

The food, though not to his liking, was satisfying. The nutrients from the berries and the protein from the bugs took away the empty feeling that was his growling stomach. Before he knew it darkness had enveloped the young Azazel. Taking just a few minutes, his elven eyes adjusted to the nighttime.
Curling himself up beside a tree, Azazel attempted to warm himself while trying to keep his mind focused. He had been eager to finish his task and now knew that his future looked grim because of improper planning. The chorus of howls sang loudly to the night.
Sniffing could be heard nearby. The sound of something moving alerted the young elf. Suddenly from behind a bush a large grey wolf made his presence known. Its upper lip snarling showing sharp wet teeth.

His small break was over as he slowly stood not drawing his sword. The wolf was rather large and looked like it was in the mood for food. His eyes saw almost every detail as if it was normal sunlight.
"Relax, I am not here to harm you." He said to the wolf calmly, he lived around animals for a few years and hope he could reason with the wolf. It was not unheard of.
"Help me find an camp of men and you can eat all you like of them, please spare me great wolf." He said staring in his eyes his hands open in front of him showing he was not having an weapon.
Such an long shot he knew but it would cost him a lot maybe even his life if he attacked the wolf.

The wolf continued to snarl at the young elf who was trying to reason with it. Its fur However it was a futile attempt. An ear piercing howl was let out before Azazel. The elf could only imagine what it meant. To the wolf it was that fact that he had found food and was alerting others. Through the upturned lips and sharp teeth, the wolf did a combination of a growl and a bark. An attack was imminent.

Well if the wolf did not want to reason with him then so be it. He was not going to be food for it nor anything else anytime soon. He draw his blade out looking at the wolf, his eyes slowly turning in more of a glare. He did not want to kill if he could help it but this case he could not help it.
He held the blade with both hands as he ran towards the wolf, jumping in the air before reaching him flipping over the wolf. He would land on the ground then spin thrusting his blade aiming for one of the back legs. That was his goal, he knew the ground was flat for this to work as he saw it before the sun fell.
If he failed then he would take an defense position but he had to kill it fast before others came. One wolf was going to be risky a whole family was a death wish for him. But he remembered what the Master said about the basic steps.

Eyeing his prey the wolf began a slow circle around the elf. Its teeth gleaming in the moonlit night. Over the bottom gums, saliva dripped onto the ground. The growling was growing steady. Azazel stood ready to defend. Both moved, mirroring steps. The wolf barked. Then with a final howl, lunged at the elf.
The elf's strike was just a hair slow and missed the wolf as it jumped by him. Startled by the flash of light from Azazel's blade, the wolf jerked its head at the last minute narrowly missing the elf's leg. Both warriors remained unharmed.
The wolf turned and began pacing once again. It was looking for a weak spot.

He had to relax and work on his speed. He was an elf he could be faster then this. He took a deep breath knowing round two was coming and more rounds more of a chance he would lose.
The wolf was rather smart. smarter then most dogs from being out in the wild learning how to survive and hunt. Azazel knew he only had what he knew, basic sword skills and good reflexes and a bit better at speed that was slowly getting better with every fight he lived.
Holding the blade with both hands he ran forward, his feet were light on the ground pushing hard as they lifted his aim was to the wolfs back sliding the blade along the spine or the face at one of its eyes. Blinding it would help him but not awhile lot as they dealt with scents more then anything at times but it would get him worried and off with being blind in one eye.

The wolf had made up its mind. An opening revealed itself as the elf tried to keep in step with the pacing wolf. Pushing off from its hind legs, it lunged at the elf. Its mouth opened there was no sound coming from it. The dripping teeth came closer to the elf's lower section of his body. Gnashing at Azazel's legs hoping to grab at the flesh and tear it.
The elf saw the movement and quickly reacted.

He failed, keeping pace with a wolf was harder then it sounded as the wolf came at him with more speed then Azazel could had think of. Knowing it would be pointless to try to move he moved his feet back in a basic stance his sword striking downward and forward towards the wolfs head. Using the blade more or less as a shield and weapon at the same time.

The blade struck true. A loud yelp could be heard as Azazel's blade sliced through the scalp of the wolf. Blood pulsed from the open staining the ground. The wolf was still alive yet mortally wounded. It if had not been for his elven reflexes, Azazel would have been minus part of his upper thigh.
Laying on the ground howling in pain, the wolf stared at the young elf. It kept whining and howling, the elf began to feel a twinge of sorrow for the beast. Suddenly, as if hearing a cry for help, another wolf very similar in color jumped through the bushes beside Azazel. Taking a look at a fallen comrade, it immediately lunged for the elf.

He had just a few seconds to get his position back in place, his sword swinging in another defense strike aiming right towards the wolfs chain. His new goal now was to hinder there jaws if he could. Who knew how many more were coming now. He did not have a clear idea of how many came in a pack or how quick or far away they were and could travel.

The tip of the elf's blade bit into the snout of the wolf. A howl of pain rang through the night air. However it did not deter the wolf from readying another attack. Azazel noticed that this particular wolf kept it's eye on the other wolf. It backed up close to the dying wolf and gave it a sniff. This must be the mate was the thought that crossed the elf's mind.
The mournful howl came from the ground as the two wolves understood to their fate. Turning back to Azazel the second wolf began a series of barks and growls. Knowing what needed to be done, the wolf circled the elf. Springing forward it attacked.
