You're on the right track with your knife to my back [Sheng, Gye, Alph]

A captain of the Empire is a hero who leads by his courageous example.

Regardless of their station, they will be tried and tested veterans of many years who have a fine understanding of the craft of soldiering, having spent most of their lives fighting in defense of the Empire.

"Psssst."

Each of the men was nudged awake, although under different circumstances.

Gye'ron found himself in a relatively luxurious officer's room. It befitted his rank, after all, not to mention he was garrisoned inside of a fortress. Why not enjoy the benefits of being located somewhere with some nice walls, after all, and some actual amenities? As opposed to, say, squatting out in a field.

Alphonsus was definitely squatting out in a field somewhere. More specifically, in a tent located in a field somewhere. The plus side was that he got a raised cot, so he wasn't literally sleeping in the dirt. Officers did get some privileges, after all. But he was stationed with the men out in the field, their encampment a mobile one due to their frequent patrol actions. They were men who were often on the move.

Sheng found himself propped up in a trench, his back against a cold dirt wall. He hadn't fallen asleep while on watch duty, but with danger so near, few actually managed to relax in their beds. Most simply slept in the trenches themselves, in full armor and ready to get their weapons in the event that anything happened. Stiff and uncomfortable, but better than being caught with your trousers down when the enemy came.

Regardless of their circumstances, each of the men had been nudged awake by another soldier.

"There's a meeting happening," each of the men was told. "Come along, they're asking for you."

Secrets :
Your characters have awoken in a strange situation.

They are simultaneously aware of 'themselves' as Aelyrians, but also aware of their 'role' in this scenario. Whether you interpret this as your PC lucid dreaming, or unaware that they are in a dream, is up to you. You are captains of the Empire, always on guard against the Great Enemy. You are renowned as great fighters and are expected to lead your men by example in combat.

It is important that they do not 'break character' in front of the NPCs in this scenario.

This first post is intentionally vague. Feel free to ask the friendly NPCs around you for more information.

Your PCs are equipped and outfitted however you see fit. Bring along any armor or weapons you own IC, which will replace the 'default' set of equipment where appropriate. I will describe the rest of the 'default' in my next post.

The last brightening was one of revelry after a successful performance. The performers deserved it as they had been on stage every brightening for almost half a month. The entire thing was a resounding success! Alphonsus had so much drinks that he went to bed without changing out of his traveling attire...

Alphonsus woke up staring not at concrete, but at cloth. He sat up quickly and looked around. He saw his crossbow and flute carefully set beside his cot, his dagger that had accompanied him since the start of his life hidden in his boots, his longknife was sheathed and kept under his pillow, and who was the person what woke him up? The more important question was... where was he?

The elf shook his head to clear the cobwebs in his mind and stared at the person again. Yes... That was one of his men he led in battle against the Great Enemy. "Give me a minute." He swung himself out of his bed and quickly prepared himself. Longknife strapped vertically over his right shoulder, crossbow hanging over his left waist and flute in his back pocket.

"Right-O. Lead the way." He commanded. In the back of his mind, he mused at the last time he had to say 'Right-O'...

Someone nudged him, and before his eyes opened his right hand clutched the sabre that leaned against the wall next to where he slept. Steel grey eyes sprung open. He breathed in sharply, and then as his vision cleared and he saw the face of someone he knew. He knew them. He was sure. He felt it, but the actual knowing of things like names and past encounters didn't flow directly to him.

With slower, relaxed breaths he sat up. His left hand cleared his eyes while he used the sword like a cane, to stand upright. At first he couldn't be sure where he was. It wasn't his tower. It wasn't his uncles castle. But it did feel like home, like where he belonged. He was uncomfortable, and he felt heavier than he thought he should.

He looked down at himself and was thoroughly puzzled. He was wearing the elven steel plate mail he had received as plunder from Narim when the Sherian Legions retook the city from Ire, under the leadership of Eyvind Redbeard.. It was heavily blood stained, as it ever had been. The sabre in his hand was engraved with a serpent and the rank of Captain of the Guard - also from that same battle. From what he could learn in that distant past, the armour and sword had belonged to the famed Captain of the Narim militia. She had died for her people.

But he had never worn it before. The armour and the sword had always been displayed in his tower, painful reminders of the fate of the province that had raised him.

A red cape hung from his shoulders, denoting him as an officer. That was fitting. As much of the things around him were. He felt at home again. He was with soldiers. There was a Great Enemy, and it was his duty to protect the Empire. That was what he was.

"Who's asking? A meeting about what?" He asked questions, but his tone was that of a commander again. The questions were demanding in nature, almost orders. It wasn't rude in the Legions, like it was amongst civilians. It simply was the way that it was.

He followed the one that awoke him, as he strapped the sabre to his waist. He felt alive again.

Sheng Kaldres is a benevolent Adventurer

Asleep and yet not asleep. A pose that was perfected after years of fighting in numerous wars and battles. At sensing any movement, Sheng would be wide awake, ready to go into war at a moment.

War. But what was? That question popped into Sheng's mind as Sheng pondered on this as he got ready.

Dresses in standard Legion scalemail on his body with greaves below. At the same time, Sheng was wearing his steel plated boots and gloves along with his due cloak and greycloak. In this cold weather, wearing warm was most important. Even the underwear needed to be warm.

Warm and mobile. Not full plate mail unless you want to dead freezing.

With that in mind, Sheng gathered his full face helmet, long sword and axe. The shield, long spear and throwing spears, Sheng left them behind.

With a composure gathered from a variety of experiences, Sheng said calmly, "Lead on."

Then, it was into the fire. What would it be this time? More dreams or mayne even gods?

Alphonsus

Alphonsus grabbed all his weaponry without question. It seemed like he also had some nice armor to dress up with, if he wanted. Steel, from the look of it. Plate mail over most of the body, but the joints were made up of colorful cloth over chainmail to keep them flexible. He even had a steel helm with a large red feather poking out from the top of it. Very ostentatious. A Captain was meant to be a presence on the battlefield, after all!

Once everything was ready? No questions asked, Alphonsus simply followed the man, whom Alphonsus vaguely recalled was his subordinate. The man right beneath him in the hierarchy.

Gye'ron

"The Captains are being summoned for a meeting, sir." Gye'ron knew the man. His 'second', as it were - the man immediately beneath him in hierarchy, and expected to step up should the unthinkable happen and the Captain perish in battle. There was an immediate familiarity there, the sort of thing that should have only been able to be built up through many battles and campaigns together, but to be perfectly honest? Gye'ron couldn't immediately summon up any such memories, merely vaguely recall that they existed.

Zamora. Was that the right name?

"I don't know what the reason for it is or who called it, merely that you were to be fetched for it," the man said, leading Gye'ron in the direction of the meeting.

Sheng

Sheng vaguely recalled that the man who had woken him was the one directly beneath him in the hierarchy. A good man, loyal. Brave. Better at following orders than giving them, admittedly.

Well, Sheng was ready in a moment's notice. With everything gathered up, they'd be on their way.

Everybody

Alphonsus, Gye'ron, and Sheng were all stationed in the same army. In general, military organization tended to be incredibly confederated. Unless in a live combat scenario, an army was more or less split into independent retinues, each commanded by a Captain. None officially had any authority over the others, and it was thus a collaborative effort between them all when it came to running things. When it was time to properly fight? One Captain among them all was elected to the position of General, who would then actually lead the army unit as a whole. The fact that this sort of system existed reflected quite a bit on the Empire's political structure, the meddling of the noble elites (who were often quite involved in the upper echelons of the military), and the general state of affairs of an ancient Empire who had not had to deal with any true threats for what felt like eons.

Whatever the case, somebody had assembled all the Captains. Usually, this was only done when it was necessary to elect a General. This shouldn't have been the case, however - recently there had been reports of something brewing on the frontiers, but these lands were nestled in safer core lands.

In total, there were five Captains, including Alphonsus, Gye'ron, and Sheng. Each Captain had brought along their 'second,' their immediate subordinate - rather, it seemed like these individuals were the ones who had gone to rouse their Captains in kind. Everybody was mustered into the meeting room, filled with musty maps, usually used for strategic planning and such matters. Now, it seemed, something a little more clandestine was afoot. As the doors were closed to provide some semblance of privacy, and a lantern was lit to ensure that they didn't all sit in darkness? They'd get to see who their guest speaker was, who had apparently summoned them all. The insignia blazoned on his uniform told them that he was also a member of the Imperial military, likely a man stationed in another Army.

So, what was this meeting about? He'd be very straightforward about it.

"There is talk of rebellion among the Imperial forces." One simple sentence. And now, Alphonsus, Sheng, and Gye'ron all had something to think about.

The Empire had been around for a long time, and in that time, had become decadent, corrupt, and stratified. The nobility who sat at the top controlled much of the wealth and dictated policies on their whims. They had great influence in all matters of state, but for the longest time, the military had been the greatest bulwark against their excesses. The military, after all, was supposed to have been built on meritocracy. But more and more, the nobles were encroaching upon this, using bribes and influence to buy out high-ranking positions.

And so with a simple statement, everything that had been going on in the background, everything that Gye'ron, Alphonsus, and Sheng knew had been building up, would come to a head. The question was now posed to each Captain. Was it time for so-called 'treason' against this sham of an Empire they had sworn to protect? What side were the people in this room on? Was this guest speaker here to convince them to rebel, or to sniff out traitors?

Would they remain loyal to the Empire, or become rebellious usurpers? Would they become defenders of the people and meritocracy, or blind patriots defending insidious puppeteers?

Alphonsus took a moment to dress himself up in the rather flashy armor, but after the many... hmmm... months as a captain... , he still found himself hating to be encased in all that steel. The price of power. At least the armor was flashy looking!

Heading over to the report with his second... what was his rank and name again? He blamed his fuzzy memory from all the drinks he had last night for some celebration... maybe it was something else. Hmmm... He was about to continue on that line of thoughts when he noticed Captain Gye'ron, Captain Sheng and two other captains walking in the same direction. That was an odd sight and such a gathering meant something big was happening. He couldn't help but feel a little excited.

In the meeting room where they were all gathered, the speaker was someonoe from another army. He tried to recognize the insignia, to discover which army the speak was from and the speaker's rank.

When the briefing began, the talks about rebellion among the Imperial forces, made him think of enemy elementalists wielding glowing swords battling their way against his imperial troops shooting flaming arrows while his second fought with a glowing sword charged by his spellsong.

"Let me put it straight. There is a rebellion among the Imperial forces, and not a rebellion against the Imperial forces?" Alphonsus tried to clarify after the speaker finished. It was an important clarification. Was the rebellion an internal or external matter.

If it was an internal matter, the elf understood why. He had fought his way up into where he was, but he knew of people that just bought their way in. There were rumors of malcontent against those people, but he had not expect people to actually active rebel and tried to make a fight between brothers.

If it was an external matter, he might laugh at the rebels. Who would be stupid enough to fight against the might of the imperial force?

Zamora. He trusted him, and the man had earned the trust, as well as Gye'ron's respect. So many details weren't coming to him as he was used to, but he had just woken up. Things seemed off, just slightly. His brows were knit as he tried to puzzle it all out. He must've had a nightmare while he slept. There had been a rebellion. His childhood home was destroyed. Monstrous insects attacked the Empire and wiped out entire cities. A crazy person had set him on fire. A necromancer had melted his clothes off and left him standing naked in a field.

He shuddered before he stepped into the meeting room. It had been an awful nightmare.

A man he wasn't sure he was familiar with was waited for him. As did the other four captains of their army. This was unusual, and he didn't like unusual things. Especially in that room. He liked that room. His left hand went to his chest to search for his pendant and offer a prayer to Aslan for the truth to come to light. It wasn't there.

Gye'ron looked down, his hand grasped at air twice. The man spoke the fateful words that would change their lives. It seemed eerily familiar somehow. Uncomfortably familiar.

His eyes came up, and went to each face in the room. They lasted a moment longer on Sheng than the other Captains. Sheng was a loyalist. He knew it. Alphonsus? Alphonsus was a good enough man, but Gye'ron wasn't sure which side he would be on. The other two Captains? What were their names again? He wished he hadn't been woken from such a deep sleep and thrust into this situation. He couldn't remember anything he ought to know.

Then to all five of the seconds. His eyes landed last on Zamora. Gye'ron wondered if these five knew what they were summoned for. Did they know what side the man before them stood on? If the Captains gave the wrong answer, would they be assassinated by the soldiers who acted as their right hands?

His brows pinched together, as he silently asked Zamora, 'Did you know?' His friend had said he didn't, but he had brought him here. Someone must have compelled him to.

'Wrong question,' Gye'ron thought after Alphonsus spoke. What mattered was where the loyalties of the man in front of them lay. Whatever their own loyalties or thoughts, if they could sus out the answer, they could play him into providing information they would need, one way or the other.

What mattered even more than that was whether or not the man had brought his own forces to the castle.

Quietly he whispered to Zamora, "Send out scouts, talk to the sentries. Find out if any other forces have moved in on us. Go now," and the he looked back to the Imperial officer.

"Why? And where do you stand on the matter?" His questions were hard and direct. Then to watch for a reaction from the foreign officer, or the other Captains and their seconds.

Gye'ron cared deeply about the idea of the Empire, about the sanctity of it. He cared because it was the will of the Gods. He cared because, as imperfect and unequal and unjust as it could be, the fact that it existed also protected its people. They were afforded the greatest opportunity to prosper by its laws, by the security and stability that it provided. The nobles meddled and bought what they didn't deserve. There was corruption. It was all true. But war killed innocent people. And if there was a threat prodding the borders of the Empire? That threat required their unity. The Great Enemy would always be watching for a weakness. It would exploit it.

If Gye'ron were to rebel, the cause had to be Just. If he were to lead his men into a long, hard fight, it would have to be for more than a handful of men feeling their path to glory was blocked because nobles were born noble. Once he decided he needed to kill somebody for a greater good, he would sacrifice half the souls of the Empire to do it.

Wait, hadn't he done this before? Wasn't that what his nightmare had been about?

Strangely enough, Sheng had some information regarding the hierarchy of the army in his mind. Five captains leading their own men and in times of crisis a general will be selected to lead. To lead the men against the Great Enemy. So who was the Great Enemy? This information was not in Sheng's mind and it was hard to ask without appearing being out of place. Besides that piece of information, there were so many things that Sheng needed to know. Was a place or document for that? Sheng kept this in mind as he walked towards the gathering place.

Was this the crisis that a general would be selected? The very first thing that Sheng was going to do when he was aware in this world? So do Sheng present himself as a candidate or do he support others? Again, lack of information. This made Sheng very insecure. Information and intelligence was the very basis of a war and Sheng did not have much!

In the tent, Sheng looked around and asked his second about the people in the tent, especially on the captains and their second. For that matter, Sheng tried to remember his second's name....Was it Paul?

In the tent, Sheng was surprised nternally to see a familiar face as he kept a stoic face. Gye'ron. So a dream? Or something else? But the rest was unfamiliar.

A short statement started the meeting and Sheng remained stoic. A rebellion. Yet another rebellion. Sheng seemed to be attracted to rebellions, though now it did not caused much to Sheng's state of mind. For one thing, Sheng was not even sure that the Empire that he was protecting now the Empire that he was protecting. Was this even the Aelyria Empire? Another point was that it did not surprised Sheng. Harsh conditions and long period of fighting seemed to encourage rebellion.

"We suppress the rebellion." Sheng said, still wearing his stoic mask as he looked at Gye'ron, Alphonsus and the other captains.

It was clear to Sheng that Alphonsus was not really an army man. He was taking it too lightly, thinking it as a joke of some sort. For Gye'ron, Sheng has a suspicion that he was still deciding on which side to stand. For Sheng, it was simple, they were still fighting the Great Enemy. This meant that they needed a united front. So break from the ranks should be suppress mercilessly.

"So it would seem," was the response to Alphonsus' query. An internal matter - all the more dangerous. It wasn't too surprising. Every soldier was out here putting their life on the line and risking their neck. For what? Coddled nobles back home? Some sense of 'national pride?' For the defense of an Empire that was deteriorating with every passing day?

Zamora, as far as Gye'ron could tell, had no idea what was going on. To be fair, though, some of the Captains seemed much the same way. It was rather tense in the room, to say the least. The man seemed happy enough to follow orders, however, bowing at Gye'ron's command. As he made to leave, however, one of the other Captains quickly snapped a fist up by the side of his head, even as his other hand went to the sword by his hip.

Until things were resolved, nobody was going to leave.

"That is a difficult question to answer, without knowing the answers of everybody else in this room," the officer noted. And it was fair. What if he was a loyalist, and this room was full of rebellious Captains? What if it were the other way around? But at the same time, he had already taken a great risk by coming here and simply stating what he had. The man, to his credit, seemed relatively impassive. He had a talent for hiding his feelings. "Let us simply say that things seemed to have reached a boiling point, and it is important to either attempt to defuse the situation immediately, or act decisively to contain the aftermath."

There were two other Armies in the general vicinity, beyond the one that Gye'ron, Sheng, and Alphonsus belonged to. If there's were to be called the First Army, then this officer they were speaking to appeared to be from the Second. Loyalists attempting to snuff out the rebels quickly? Rebels attempting to rally and strike preemptively? Of the two other captains? The man - Shiroa - who had motioned for Zamora not to leave immediately was grimacing and obviously glancing between the others - the second, Kidares, quietly contemplative.

Sheng, it seemed, was decisive in his decision. It was an easier default than rebellion, certainly. Shiroa quickly backed up Sheng. "My men are loyal and can be trusted to defend the Empire against any threat!" he declared. "No grievance is great enough to threaten the unity of our forces in such a fashion."

Two strongly declared in Sheng and Shiroa. Alphonsus and Kidares were undeclared, though Gye'ron didn't take Alphonsus for the rebellious type. And this stranger, who could move to whichever side the wind was blowing. Gye'ron respected that, after a fashion. Decisive action, whichever way it was to be. The Empire needed it to be decisive. But rebellions weren't decisive affairs. Especially when they were based on nothing more than a bit of discontent. They had to have a polarizing purpose. A change in leadership was never accepted peaceably. Gye'ron had heard nothing that had compelled him to be swayed to risk the strength of the Empire. If they fractured, the Great Enemy would take advantage of their weakness in the aftermath. Any opponent with half a mind would. Gye'ron would.

Gye'ron drew his saber slowly, and turned it over in the light, as his eyes moved along the blade. Why did he carry the blade of the Captain of the Guard of Narim? When he looked at it he saw death. They had won that day for the Empire when they retook the city from the Horde. But it had been the beginning of the end. After that they had fractured. Tens of thousands of legionnaries had died - or worse - in that rebellion as sworn brother fought sworn brother. It had been the beginning of the end for the Legions. The beginning of the end for the Empire. The Xet had attacked.

His brows furrowed. Had he not lived this before? It was the same, but different. He had chosen a middle path before. Perhaps he could've prevented it all. He had thought the head of the Empire needed to change. It had seemed just. It had seemed right. But hundreds of thousands of innoncents, perhaps millions, had died because of it.

Not again.

"You're right. We must be decisive. If we fracture and break, if the conflict is prolonged, the Great Enemy will come for us. Millions will die. We must stand together, resolutely, for law, order, and justice."

His eyes looked up to meet those of the strangers, and he smiled. Then he looked toward Sheng and Shiroa, "I'm sorry."

Gye'ron folded space around himself, unleashing sorceric energy to teleport from where he was to directly behind the officer of the Second Army who had come to treaty with them. In a blink, if all went well, he would be behind the man and he would spin, the blade of his sword aimed squarely for the neck of their fellow Captain. The goal, of course, was to remove the man's head.

Indecisive Captains of the Empire could not be tolerated. Who could trust a man that was willing to rebel or be loyal, depending on what others felt? He would betray them all eventually. The Empire had to be united and strong to keep the Great Enemy at bay, whether nobles sought position via birthright rather than merit or not.

It was like what Gye'ron had thought. Alphonus was not a military man. Well, that wasn't true. He remembered fighting through the ranks, saving comrades and inspiring many of his fellow soldiers and one brightening he was promoted to a Captain. That felt like right, but at the same time not right. He blamed it on the drinks he had the previous brightening. He couldn't even remember who his second was... but regardless of what happened, he was sure of his loyalty to the Empire and so would anyone who fought with him.

All the fuzziness and whatever leftover joyous feeling from the drinks was immediately drained away when Shiroa drew his weapon to threaten Gye'ron's second. "Keep your blade Captain Shiroa. There is no need for such acts within ourselves." He spoke with a stern, no nonsense tone.

"Captain Gye'ron" He berated with a sigh after Gye'ron also drew his sabre. In the mean time, he gave a quick signal at Max. Wait... Was Max the name of his second? No matter, everyone under his command knew that signal well enough. It was to say. 'Hand on your weapon and be on guard.'

He looked across the room as Gye'ron spoke about law and order. Sheng and Shiroa had declared his loyalty. Kidares was pretty silent about it, but he had never though Kidares was a rebel of any sort. He was still thinking the most suspicious was the Captain of the Second Army when Gye'ron suddenly said 'I'm sorry.' That snapped the elf's eyes to where Gye'ron was standing.

If Gye'ron attempt works, Alphonsus turned to his second and quickly ordered. "Make sure no one gets in." Then turning to his fellow captains. "I was about to suggest if he had any proof, but I guess we can just search for it."

If Gye'ron attempt failed, he would continue as what he had decided to do. "In any case, that's a serious allegation. What sort of proof do you have and which side do you stand on then?"

Violence as most military seemed prone to. At least, for men of an army that was not united and discipline enough. If there was a strong leader and common sense of mission, Sheng would not have seen one of the captains trying to stop Zamora with a show of strength. Then, again if the army was united in the sense of mission against the Great Enemy, there would not be any rebellion. It seemed that the it was either the Great Enemy was not considered a big enough threat or that the Great Enemy was able to persuade others. Either way too much unknown. However, now was not the time to think about the Great Enemy. The position of captains needed to be resolved. Something needed to be done about the rebellion.

For one thing, Sheng had the support of one of the captains. Shiroa as he was told be Paul, supported his notion. So what about the rest?

Then, Gye'ron decided the act. For some reason, it did not shock Sheng that Gye'ron was acting against the Second Army officer. Gye'ron seemed to have a deep sense of mistrust, especially of people unknown to him. This was not the first fight that he had seen Gye'ron getting involved in. Violence seemed to be his first reaction.

Alphonsus seemed to be Gye'ron's supporter as he followed with actions to support Gye'ron. Alphonsus got his men to lock down the place. A sheep that follows the crowd? Sheng reserved any judgement about Alphonsus for now. He needed to focus on himself first.

Though Sheng could sense and see that Gye'ron's attack, Sheng did not stop Gye'ron. For one thing, the Second Army was not familiar to Sheng. Where do they stand? Second, this was not the Empire that Sheng was supposed to protect. For that matter, what dream or situation was this? For all that Sheng knew, the scene could just change based on the whim of an unknown dreamer.

Thus, Sheng stood where he was, mentally preparing himself to face any fight directed towards him by tightening his fist and shifting to a fighting stance. In close quarters, unarmed combat could give Sheng a faster response than the use of an axe or long sword. Sheng was also more proficient in unarmed combat as compared to the use of weapons.

Questions of loyalty were irrelevant to a corpse.

Gye'ron did his thing. It was quite effective. Neither Shiroa nor Kildares seemed all too appreciative of his quick thinking, however - had this truly been necessary? Surely it would have been simple enough to take the man prisoner as opposed to stab him in the neck. "Gods, man!" Shiroa exclaimed, quickly drawing both of his blades from his side, even as Kildares caught a warhammer thrown to him by his second. Neither, however, immediately moved to attack Gye'ron.

"There are proper procedures for this!" Shiroa continued. "Your actions were inappropriately barbaric. If you cut down a man loyal to the Empire, you will be judged."

"After," Kildares finally rumbled, "we settle this matter. He is right - we must be a united front against these rebels. Once we have dealt with them, we can investigate this..." His hand waved in the direction of the corpse. "...incident."

Well, at least for now it seemed like they were all on the same side. Probably not a hard decision to make when the alternative was some crazy teleporting guy trying to stab you to death.

Now, the fun part of deliberating what to do next.

Sheep always bleated when lions acted. They revealed themselves for all that they were in that moment. Cowards and small minded creatures without a spine to act and do what was necessary. Rules and regulations were for people too moronic to know when and how to do things. Procedures were for lackeys. Absolute law was for lackeys. It was precisely why neither of those two could ever reliably be elected to be a general. They had no instincts.

"What incident you fething morons. He said he would declare whichever way we did. Which means if we declared as traitors, so would he. He wasn't a loyalist. Pull your heads out of your backsides and breathe fresh air and think with a clear mind for once in your damned fool lives!"

He pointed his bloodied sabre at their weapons, "If you want to fight me over this," then his blade went to the headless man's corpse, "creature that is willing to switch sides as it best suits him in the moment, then you're traitors too."

Gye'ron knelt and wiped his blade off on the clothes of the dead officer. He glowered at Shiroa and Kildare, "Or even worse, you're fools not fit for command who will get good men killed."

When he stood again he rose his hands with open palms, offering peace. He nodded to his second - Zamora - and spoke in a quieter tone, "We need to send out scouts and find out if this man's regiment is nearby, or even worse, the army he's from. We need his second in our custody. We need to warn the Empire of the threat. We need to gather our troops. If the second army isn't here, we should move on them in secret and call a meeting like this one. I can speak to them. If they are traitors, I can teleport out, and we can attack."

Gye'ron knelt down again and began to search the body of the beheaded officer for any documents or items that might be of use. As he did so, he continued to speak, "Allow Zamora to send out scouts. We need to know our position. If the second army is near and intends rebellion, they may attack us."

If it was allowed by the group, Gye'ron would nod to Zamora, indicating for him to go send out the scouts as previously ordered.

"Start thinking like officers, not lackeys. We're on the brink of war, act like it. We need to elect a general."

Alphonsus inwardly tutted at the bloody mess caused by Gye'ron and assessed what was happening. With the information, he summed the entire mess boiled down to one thing he didn't like, but was often pushed into it. Politics. He was the sort of men who preferred all friends on one side where he could inspire them while his enemies gathered on the other side. In politics, friends and enemies were on all sides at the same time.

In the current moment, Alphonsus choose to keep anyone from leaving and to keep tab on what was happening. Gye'ron was a man of action and seem to be pushing the other two captains into action, to make a stand. He wished he could help out here by whipping out his flute and play a song of truth-telling, but he felt it would be really odd.

After a while, he spoke up. "The issue of generalcy can wait. We may be on the verge of attack by another army, let's settle that first. Let's send out scouts and set up our defences on the pretext of a military drill and inspection. It might be nothing to worry about, but if there is a rebellion, there will be a great chance some of the rebels have infiltrated us and I doubt any of us want the rebel to be alerted."
