Timestamp: Brightening 16, Cryxatum; Era II of the Celestine Mandate

Glanos stepped onto the training field, having passed the Goblin quarters within the fortress-city. The brightening was grey and dark, evidence of another one of the many storms passing over Orckon. Light drops of water began to coat the field and participants this day, and soon enough, the clouds would send torrential downpours during the next few candlemarks. But nobody cared.

The training field was packed that day, as it always was, with Orcish warriors training and criminal gangs meeting together. Paradahun guards surrounded the entrance and maintained a level of order, but none crossed into the field to watch any of the events going on. Hundreds of warriors were arranged in separate groups throughout the rocky old field. Different instructors barked orders to the many Horde recruits that were training for upcoming engagements with Imperial forces.

Usually, one would have to signup at a crudely constructed table and wait for an instructor, but with war preparations being made, there were instructors yelling loudly enough for more participants into their groups. Glanos found the area where most of the martial art instructors were located, and watched as one of the K'Tesh instructors finished beating up one of his students.

"Dat'll teach ju ta watch where yar placing ju footing!" He yelled at the badly bruised Orc. "Next!" he yelled. Glanos stepped into the field, walking past the former student. "Good luck." The beaten up Orc moaned as he walked on. Glanos approached the instructor and was immediately knocked down by a high-flying kick.

"Da names Grograk and I will kill ju if ju don't learn fast." He said as he watched Glanos get up. "Ju will learn 'atred fer me now, but ju will honor me when ju don't die from da imperial scum. Ju tink dey will show ju mercy?" Grograk asked, an irritated tone in his voice. Before Glanos could answer, Grograk shot a straight hand out and punched Glanos, knocking him over.

"Dat is a basic claw attack.. da first attack ju will learn. Now, get up and try it on me."

Glanos rubbed his chest, stood up, and prepared himself. He knew he was either going to learn these skills, or Grograk was going to kill him. With a loud snarl, Glanos extended his arm with a straight hand and tried the claw punch. Gorgrak did a claw block and used his legs to kick Glanos in the stomach, heaving him to the ground.

"Ye see dat any good opponent won't jus' let ju punch dem when dey see it coming." Grograk said with a laugh. "Besides dat, yer form was off. I'm going to teach ju dat basic claw stance, and den ju use the claw punch." Grograk proceeded to put his body into a balanced stance, with both hands in the claw punch position. His legs were evenly spaced, giving him good balance. "Do as I do." Grograk commanded.

Glanos obeyed, putting himself into the claw stance. His legs were evenly spaced and balanced, while his arms extended into the claw attack position. "Now, using dat stance, attack me wit' da claw attack." Grograk ordered. Without hesitation, Glanos quickly charged at Grograk, maintaining the stance, and sending a high claw attack to Grograk's face. Grograk easily blocked it.

"Good. Ju are starting to learn. I know how to block dat, and I could've knocked you down still since I know more, but yer stance prevents ju from being massively hurt during engagements." Grograk said. Without hesitation, Grograk formed into a claw stance and engaged Glanos. Two quick claw attacks sent Glanos tumbling to the ground again.

"Ju must like da taste of de dirt." Grograk jeered, laughing hysterically. Glanos snarled angrily. "Dun worry, Glanos. I will teach ju how to do basic blocks, but fer now, ju must practice the claw attacks and stances. Stand up and do it again." Grograk said.

Glanos arose and began to practice the claw attacks while in basic stances.

"Good, ju are learnin', finally." Grograk commented after more claw attack and stance practice. "But befer ju learn da blocks, Im goin' to teach ju da basic kicks. Ju must learn pain and da skills befer ju learn da weak trades of blocking." Grograk said with a grin, almost emphasizing the pain he was going to give to Glanos.

Grograk spaced himself from Glanos and put himself into a claw stance. Glanos did the same. With a hearty yell, Grograk ran towards Glanos and did a high-flying kick aimed at his right shoulder. Glanos fell with a loud crunch. "Did ju see my leg technique, dirt eater?" Grograk said with a scowl. "Dat's da first thing ju must learn about kicks. It's all in da technique. Fer more force, ye extend da leg out. Fer more power, ye extend late with a kick. Now ju try it."

Glanos got up with a grunt, snarled, and put himself in a stance. With a large yell, Glanos jumped towards Grograk and extend his leg out. Grograk performed a simple block and then kicked Glanos in the leg, dropping him again. "No no, worm slirper. Ju went into da stance wit' more anger den ju did with yer head! Ju must concentrate.. put da anger in yer leg where it counts and keep it out of dat fat head of yers!" Grograk yelled.

"Get up and try it again!" He yelled.

Glanos rubbed his sore chest and returned back into a claw stance. Looking at Grograk with his broken teeth, mangled, combat-worn body, Glanos focused his anger within the stance and threw himself at Grograk. With a high yell, Glanos jumped into the air and twisted his body into a low-kick into the thighs.

"Not bad, kid." Grograk said with a chuckle. "Dat tickled. Actually, maybe we better move to da blocks now. No tellin' where yer foot will go next." He said with a nervous expression and a look to his nether regions. Grograk spaced himself from Glanos and began to take a claw stance.

"Now listen. I will only tell ye dis once. I'm goin' to da a move that will break one of dose weak bones of yers. But if ye do dis block correctly, da move won't hurt at all. Got it? Now, get in da claw stance. Stances are da key to everything."

Grograk proceeded to do block move within the stance, his forearms bringing an x formation in front of his chest, while his legs were in a leaning forward motion to balance against a frontal assault. Glanos followed the steps, bringing his body into near perfect likeness of his teacher.

"Good. Now lets see if dat block of yers holds." Without a moments hesitation, Grograk leaped into the air and performed a high-flying kick aimed at Glanos' chest. The blocked budged slightly, but the stance helped Glanos hold his ground against the kick. Grograk laughed in satisfaction.

"Der, dats more like it. Now, let's keep practicing dis."

Glanos continued perfecting the block technique, noting that it was simply a matter of placing his arms defensively during a stance in order to block a routine attack. With a shield and armor, the block would be highly effective at shielding attacks. Grograk continued to do basic attacks against Glanos, and he wondered whether Grograk was enjoying himself as much as he looked.

"All right, Glanos. For da last series of our practices together, ju are going to try and bring me down, while I try to bring ju down. Use everything I taught, and dun worry 'bout me... I'll use only da basic skills I taught ye." He said. They spaced out from eachother in the field and both assumed the claw stance.

"Begin!" Grograk commanded. Immediately both charged eachother. Grograk leaped into the air to deliver a claw kick to the chest. Glanos immediately blocked and shot out a claw attack to Grograk's midsection. It struck, but Grograk dodged most of the impact. "Hah, ju must move your body more into da stance in order to use da dexterity enough to hit me right." Both were breathing heavily as they circled eachother, must like in a cage match.

Grograk stood and shotup a straightkick the chest. Glanos barely reacted intime, but was able to cover the attack with a block. Glanos decisively faked Grograk with a claw attack, but immediately veered to a lowkick to the thigh. It connected, and Grograk was temporarily immobilized.

"Nice move, Glanos." Grograk commented. "Now try dis on fer size!" Grograk yelled. Immediately he performed a stanced, low kick to the shin as well as a jab aimed for the head. Glanos blocked both attacks and countered with a claw punch. Grograk easily blocked it, and issued his own claw attack with both hands. Glanos blocked using a claw kick, hurling both of Grograk's arms to the side, and then issued a claw jab to the face.

Grograk fell. "Argh." He moaned. "I didn't even tell ju dat ye could block using dat attacks. Good stance position, too." Grograk stood up and grunted. Both Orcs knew that Grograk could easily destroy Glanos in combat, as he had done so before, but in the interest of the Orc learning, Grograk was fighting using the same techniques being taught.

"Yer almost ready fer basic K'Tesh. But da day ju call me dirt eater, is da day I kick yer scrawny hide out of Orckon, got it, Dirt eater?" Glanos grunted with a half smile. "Now, let's continue those moves. Remember to keep stance no matter what attack or block ju give."

Both of them spaced far apart and got into a stance. The sounds of training could be heard all over the field.
