[Location] Ire Rowdy Tents
Located near the goblin village in the upper city, the Rowdy Tents are a collection of tents and other temporary structures used to house the orphaned or non-clan affiliated residents of Orckon. Those that are not considered able to survive on their own or do not have the average luxuries (IE: battle ready weapons, a place to live, own food, special skills, etc) are known as “unfortunates”. Homeless orcs come here to live or just squat in any plot of dirt they can hold on to in hopes of becoming a hired thug. Goblins, tired of waiting outside the Thief guild for work or feel they can get a better price for their services than what the Guild can offer hang out here advertising their skills. Other races that loiter here hope to be hired for jobs that will take them out of this city. Many don’t want to leave Orckon, they just want to work outside the city where they have a better chance to hold on to a job and not have it taken from them by an orc or goblin who have job placement preferences over them.
The tents in this area are temporary living spaces for these unfortunates and have become a living market of sorts. Young orcs gather here after leaving their clans to start out on their own and female orcs hope to be adopted into or start their own clan though most get hired instead, to serve in a tavern or other food establishment. Individual goblins squat here as well but will usually spend more time here than orcs since they are only good warriors if they fight in groups or act as archers. The female orcs usually get the serving jobs and thus, most goblins that come to the Rowdy Tents end up as slaves to merchants and others within the city. The other races that gather here are the bottom of the barrel so-to-speak and are usually hired as cannon fodder or some other job that even a desperate orc or goblin would turn down. This pretty much lets those non orc and goblin races know where they stand in Orkish society.
The average unfortunate will try to have all the weapons and gear they own with them to show their prospective employer how little they will have to spend equipping them once hired. This is a big plus and is one of the things employers look for when shopping for bodies here. Sometimes the employer will ask the unfortunate to demonstrate his skills by performing a simple task to prove the capabilities that he/she is boasting.
As orc and other merchant buyers stride through the Rowdy Tent area, prospective orcs and goblins line up in hopes to catch your eye. Most male orc and goblins walk around bare torso to show off any scars they may have and their physic. The female orcs usually just sit around all day sewing, cooking, or anything else that may impress a potential buyer. Even though they don’t stare right at you as you pass, they are quick to revert their strict attention to you at the slightest hint you may be interested in them. The buyer must be careful in broadcasting what he/she wants to hire the unfortunate for because this can easily be overheard by others which could cause problems. Other unfortunates are listening to hear what the employer wants, he will then boast to a higher degree (or straight out lie about his capabilities) to that employer to make himself sound better than the others offering the same thing. Counterspies are listening also for any treachery toward the government, religious, or other groups in the city. There are also the outside spies that are listening for any juicy info they can take outside and sell to enemies of Orckon.
There is so much to worry about in this place but so many possibilities also. Many now famous or powerful figures in Orckon had their start right here in the Rowdy Tents. An even greater number now curse the days they had to spend here as well.
