Looking for my past...[Viskyia

The third Cryxatum in the season of summer
XIV Post Fractum

Dzie had been walking the city for the past few brightenings, sleeping outside staying awake long enough that the sewage pigs had gone by. The weather was warmer than it had been, and to Dzies surprise it was the beginning of summer. If he were to have guessed he would have suggested mid, he was missing much more of his memory than he had though. After finding out the date he felt sick, his stomach tightened. There much have been much that he had done, the things that he carried around with him were proof. He examined each on by the light of the moon or from a window of a house each darkening. These were the clue that he had, the only ones. He didn’t know what they meant, none of them.

The most puzzling was the single crown that he wore around his neck under his clothing. He had no other crowns to his name that he knew of but the one he did have was now useless. He knew that they went with something. Connected directly with the two Emeralds he had. How they were connected he didn’t know. So late one darkening just before the stores closed down he decided he would find out. He didn’t know the value of them nor did he care, but he could see that they were perfectly cut to his eyes at any rate. He was no jeweler…not that he had remembered anyway.

He walked into the jewelry shop knowing that the person behind the counter would likely be annoyed that he had come in so late. Looking in the windows of other shops he seen people getting ready to close down. He made it in time though, the door was open and so he made his way in carefully.

Serale” a possibly vaugly familiar voice would greet Viskyia, though if she did recognize the voice she may be displaced as it sounded nothing like the one that she had once talked to in the terms of tone. It lacked passion, for anything. There was also no recognition of her from the owner of the voice. He wasn’t apologetic that it was late as he walked over to the counter dressed completely from head to toe. A veil covering his face besides his eyes, however the hint of a burn victim lay by the side of one eye… He didn’t look at the girl, instead he pulled out one of the emeralds and placed it on the counter.

Do you recognize this? Have you seen one of these before? Can you tell me who made it?” he asked his voice somewhat panicked but still; for lack of better words, somewhat dead.

Viskyia studied the customer as he walked into the store. It was late, but not too late for business. However, there was a problem. If there was one thing she didn't like, it was someone approaching her veiled. The second thing she hated as well was the fact that his voice sounded familiar. "Serale, good day to you." Viskyia answered as she studied the rest of him. She could tell it was a him because of his hands and the deep qualities there. The half-esh studied his gaze for a long while, and thought it strikingly familiar. There were scars around one of his eyes too.. she could see them barely around the edges of the veil.

Stones. He wanted her to look at stones. She glanced down at the emeralds, then back up at him. "I don't do business with veiled customers." She said firmly. "If you show me your face, I will gladly give you an appraisal of the items and tell you a little about them." She said, eyes locked on his. Furloin, her gnomish assistant who'd been polishing a counter across the store from the figure, frowned and retreated to the back room. He'd heard this tone in Viskyia's voice before, and knew it meant trouble. He didn't want to be around if this was guild business, or one of Viskyia's contacts from the past... one of the ugly ones from Vortex.

You as well” he mumbled clearly having things on his mind besides what he was doing forgetting simple manners. He didn’t look the girl over much except notice the features of a half breed like he. It was obvious they shared the human aspect, at least to the veiled man that seemed unsteady and to most, shady to say the least. He didn’t look over his back, he didn’t expect that anything would happen to him while he was here, in a store at least. When he left it might be another story but here, he felt as though he may be alright.

He looked at her after her next words his eyes remained unmoved. “What about those inclined to wear gray clothing? Do you also take away the rights from those who need a cane to walk?” he asked flatly. His hand reached out and took back his stones and he started to turn around. He didn’t have money to pay with anyway, but once he had the information he needed what did it matter. But something stopped him before he reached the door as if a memory from a dream one that he could barely remember as most dreams were. It seem so vivid a second ago but now now…moments after waking up it was faded into nothingness. He turned around to face her once more as he made his way slowly back to the counter. He would disregard anything she may come up with afterwards.

A latent memory snapped into his brain, she was familiar but only vaguely. This made Dzie think he may have gotten them from her, and if he did she may know why. He took in a deep breath and closed his eyes. He didn’t reach for the cloth right away but slowly trembling his hands went to it. And just as slowly he pulled it down. It was clear that the action was hard for him to do. He was having trouble dealing with his face, let alone showing it to people. But she may know many things about him as customers often indulged in too many things with shopkeepers. He mumbled “do not scream” before his face and the hideous acid burn on his face was revealed. He put the stone down on the counter again, still not indicating that he recognized this woman besides his inner-gut, he had no idea that he did at all.

"Dzie!" Viskyia all but crowed. She leaped the counter one-handed in a graceful move that looked practiced, and enfolded her long-lost friend into her arms. She hugged him fiercely, then pulled away, studying his face. Viskyia showed no sense of horror or shock at his scars. In fact, she seemed to be searching his gaze for any signs of trouble. "Where in the world have you been? I've missed you terribly. There's no better running/endurance partner out there than you are! Are you back to stay? What brings you here? Lords, where have you been?" Viskyia bounced back excitedly. Dzie was one of her first friends upon coming to Nexus Prime. He was in fact one of those people who shared all her secrets and acted so non-judgemental towards her situation that it had given her hope that the future would seem brighter.

"Are you going to go back to work for the Aedile? How's Finnabar? You must catch me up... there's so much to tell you about whats been going on since you've been gone.. you woudln't believe half the nonsense in Nexus."
She said, probably in one of the rarest displays of Viskyia affection. The jeweler rarely cracked a smile these days, let alone acted like a school girl. This though, was one of those rare times.

Dzie stood there in a daze that this woman not only knew him by, but seemed very excited to see him. He hadn’t expected such a reaction and so, if she had been an assassin he now would have been dead for all he did was stand there. Even in the embrace she gave him the half-elf did little more than lift his arms. He didn’t wrap them around her but he couldn’t leave her out in the cold away from him either. He listened to what she had to say, looking into his face she would no doubt see confussion, genuine puzzlement of everything that was happening in front of the badly scared half-breed.

He swallowed hard at everything that was being thrown at him and nearly feel over. He staggered a little to the side trying to remember everything. Running, Aedile, Finnbarr? When had he been doing these things and who in the name was Finnbarr. He actually leaned out with one hand to grab Viskyia’s shoulder as he tried to straighten things out. Force these things into his head and remember the association he had with them but nothing came up. His past after his father’s passing was still dark. The only thing that came out was the face that he looked into now, the same person that he was using to help stay standing.

I…I…” he started and paused looking down at the ground. The fresh air on his face felt strange, but in a good way. He left his veil down as he looked back up at the jeweler. “I am afraid that you know more about me at this point than I do” he didn’t feel the need to point out that he had lost his memory, such tings rarely needed to be told when the information that he had just given screamed it. “I am afraid to say I only recognize your face, of all things for some time now it is your face that peers out of the darkness. No name, no history just the face.” He started but couldn’t stop himself. He had told her some pretty deep things the night that they met, and now he was doing it again without knowledge of why. Perhaps it was his body doing what his mind refused to remember.

I do not know how I got the face that I now carry. I look into my reflection and see a stranger, so many things have happened to me but it is all dark. Not just a haze like some people say, there is no images behind it, it is just darkness and then you. You are a candle in this darkness. Are we…were we…” he didn’t want to say it. To make such an assumption that they may have been lovers would be absurd. Especially seeing as she was asking of another person and hadn’t the faintest idea of where he was. But these things didn’t matter, not to the scrambled mind of Dzie Towen.

Were we well acquainted?” he found the words to ask..
