A morning visit (Amatria please)

Amatria awoke in her bed at the Lingerer's inn. The room and bed were nothing fancy, but she found that she had had a fine night's sleep, and awoke only as the light of early morning kissed her eyelids. The blankets seemed to have gotten unusually heavy, but when she looked down she saw the face of a cat which was lying on her chest.

The cat was very large, perhaps thirty pounds, and wore long fur of a rich silvery gray color. It's eyes were a deep emerald green, and it purred with a deep languorous rumble. The cat yawned, displaying the pointy teeth of her kind.

"Shall we be going, or do you want more rest?"

The cats voice was melodious and deeper than one would expect in a smallish animal.

Amatria is unknown and forgotten
Amatria stretched, or at least tried to, but the weight of the cat pinned her down beneath the blanket which had been tucked neatly around her. She heard the voice coming from the feline and startled a bit. She had not seen one of their kind before, and it was...different to say the least. Amatria scooted back, attempting to sit up a bit more.

"Go....where? Who are you?" The elf glanced at the cloak which she had hung across a chair the night before. She was rather under dressed at the moment, and though she was not shy, she did have a bit of modesty when it came to others. However, her curiosity soon got the best of her, and she slipped from the bed, her curvaceous form moving over to grasp the blue cloak and wrap it about her shoulders.

With a shrug, she turned to look at the cat, "After you!" Her long kelp green hair, was soon curled up and knotted so that she would not trip on it as she moved about her day.

The cat was large for a cat but not of a size to pin a person down, even a small one like Amatria. She was able to sit up, and soggily the cat retreated to give her some room to move.

"My name," the cat said with a dignified air "Is Evangelina Pushcake. We go to the Convocation, which is today."

Ms Pushcake sat on the bed as Amatria made her preparations, licking her rumbled fur into order, then jumped heavily down to the floor to lead the way. The two found themselves at a time in which there was little business in the inn; those with business were already about it, and those without were still lingering in their bedrooms. The two walked through the common room without being much noticed, and out into the street.

After a walk of some blocks, the two came to a wall in an obvious state of disrepair, with half of it having tumbled down. The broken remains was rather like a stair case of tumbled blocks, and the cat began nimbly to climb, pausing only to look back and see if Amatria was still with her. The wall was rather narrow for an elf but wide enough that it didn't seem entirely dangerous.

The cat walked to a place where a massive tree limb overhung the wall, then jumped to the branch and walked towards the bole of the tree- an oak of truly prodigious size. At the far end of the branch was a hole in the tree, and the cat went into it. When she got close, Amatria would see that the tree was hollow and narrow spiral stair case ran down the inside of it.

Amatria listened to the cats name, mouthing it out a bit as dressed and followed, "Miss Pushcake, I am Amatria....but something tells me you already know that." She tilted her head a moment, "Convocation....what is that?" She had heard various things, but still, there was much for her to learn. She was soon dressed and ready to go....or at least as ready as she could be, given the circumstances.

She followed the feline, and when they approached the wall, she climbed, at least the best she could. She was, after all, a sea elf, not a feline with incredible balance. At first she saw nothing but the tree, but soon the feline slipped through. She looked into the hole, and saw the staircase leading down. Her first instinct was to run for her life, what was she doing here anyway? Was this a dream? Finally, deciding against her better judgment, she followed the feline down into the darkness. Her eyes, accustomed to the somewhat dark depths of the sea, where able to see readily enough...yet what was she looking for, she did not know.

She stopped for a moment, glancing back up the staircase as they descended. Should she get out of this now? Could she? She looked down again, biting her lip as the curiosity would get the best of her. With a determined stride, she followed, moving deeper and deeper into the bowels of the massive oak tree.

The cat made a gesture with its tail that conveyed airy nonchalance.

"Names are for the benefit of those with inadequate senses of smell, which civilized folk prefer for their identifications. The convocation is...you will see."

With some effort, Amatria squeezed her small form into the hollow of the tree and followed Miss Pushcake down the stairs. The way was somewhat treacherous as the stairs were narrow and there was no railing, and further each individual stair was quite small, more sized for cats than people.

At the bottom of the stair case was a small antechamber, and from there Amatria could see through an doorway into a large room which was lit by the light of a hundred candle set in chandeliers and in sconces on the wall. The room was full of cats, dozens and dozens of them. They lounged on pillows, walked on high catwalks which criss-crossed over head, and lay stretched out on shelves along the wall. The air was full of the soporific sound of their purrs. All heads turned to watch the new arrivals.

Miss Pushcake sauntered into the room.

"Council! Good news, I have selected our new Uman, and here she is. Greet Armatria according to tradition!"

The cats all sat erect, and their tails all went straight up and then bent at the tips, as if in salute.

Amatria is unknown and forgotten
Amatria followed quietly into the antechamber. When they entered the room, she stopped a moment, her jaw dropping, and a soft gasp slipping from her full lips. She looked down to Ms Pushcake a moment, then back up, noticing the dozens upon dozens of felines that lounged within the well lit room. Their purrs where enough to cause a light rumbling within her inner ear as she listened.

Now Amatria, being the curious type she was, could not help but lift an eyebrow as Ms Pushcake introduced her as the new 'Uman.' She glanced around as everyone seemed to salute, and she nodded in turn. Leaning down, she whispered to Ms Pushcake, "What is an Uman, Ms Pushcake?" Her hair, in that bun that she had placed it in, was coming slightly loose, and it bobbled on her head a bit.

Even though she was curious, she was also a bit nervous. She kept her back to the door, choosing not to step too far into the room, at least until she felt safe enough. She wanted to leave herself a way to go, just in case things got a little out of hand. Amatria's tongue passed nervously over her lips as she was presented.

Mx. Pushcake favored Amatria with her emerald gaze, her expression unreadable in as much as it was on a cat's face.

" 'Uman' is our word for your sort. People of two legs wiith hands and so on. We realize that you consider there to be many varieties but to us it is all one. It is traditonal now that you be questioned."

An orange tabby spoke up.

"So, Uman, have you ever consorted or wished to consort with the bird people?" The question was asked in a languid lazy way, but Amatria could sense a tension in the room, as if the question was important.

Amatria nodded as if really understanding what Ms. Pushcake spoke of. With a shrug, she stepped a little more into the room, gazing at the various felines throughout. When the orange tabby spoke up, she furrowed her brow a moment, a frown upon her face.

"Consort....I have not consorted with anyone. Do I look like someone that just goes around consorting with people?"

There was a sense of unease in the elf as she answered the question. The elf was not only pure of heart...but in other ways as well.

The tension seemed to drain from the room at Amatria's retort.

"Good," said Ms. Pushcake. "This is how we all feel about the bird people. They are not the good sort, it is well that you understand this. Also, they have stolen our flute and it is important that we get it back. As our Uman you yourself will keep it. Bring the Uman her slippers."

A lithe Persian cat came out of a dark corner, carrying a pair of slippers in her mouth. They were made of gray felt embroidered with subtle patterns of dark thread, and she laid them at Amatria's feet.

"We will go now to retrieve the flute. Are your claws sharp?"
