Basic Priciples Of Being A Ranger

Tev waited outdoors just east of the Archery Range ready to conduct training in Basic Principles Of Being A Ranger. This short session will be helpful to the newcomers in understanding more about being a Ranger as well as being a step toward advancement.

Zokia was amazed with how quickly she was going to start her training. She was instructed by S'lon to also find Tev in order to receive "The Basic principles Of Being A Ranger". This topic sounded very interesting to Zokia Zora since she desired more than anything to become a Ranger.

Since she had never met Tev yet the female was just a bit nervous as she approached him. She cleared her throat softly and then smiled slightly. "I'm Zokia Zora. I'm new here as you probably know. Heh. I am here for your instruction.......Sir." Zo bowed her head as an offering of honor and respect.

Zokia
Getting some new Rangers was a welcome event for Tev. There was certainly a need for newcomers. The Ranger Hall needed to grow to compensate for those who had left.

Tev nodded to the new Ranger and said, "Welcome to the Narim Ranger Hall. This session will help you understand just what being a Ranger is about. When the others arrive we will start in. This part of the training does not take long at all.

"Do you have any questions that have not yet been answered? This would be a good time to cover whatever may have been missed when you were welcomed."

Zo shifted upon her feet slightly as Tev spoke to her. She understood now just what this part of the training will be about. After nodding a few times she answered his question with an informed smile. "I do not have any questions at this time, thankyou. When I first arrived at the Hall S'lon was very helpful to me and welcomed me very warmly. I think that I am going to like it here very much.....Sir and I look forward to whatever you can teach me."

"Serale, Master Ranger Tev," Malius said with a bow as he entered the room. "I hope I am not late." Malius noticed he was not the only Ranger Trainee here, and he bowed again. "Greetings elf," he said with a smile, "My name is Malius... I am also training to be a ranger."

Tev waited a bit longer to see if anyone else would show up. He looked at the two trainees and said, "While we are waiting, introduce yourselves and tell a bit about yourselves.

"I am Tev, I have run this Ranger Hall since it's inception. I have also been at the Natura Ranger Hall and the Daltina Ranger Hall as well. I have been a Ranger for 14 years. During that time I have worked with the Military in Natura, Riparia and Frigid River. Throughout that time it has always been a pleasure to work with new Rangers. Do not hesitate to call on me if you ever have the need.

"Now I would like to hear from you."

Zo brushes her long white blonde hair from her face, the gold chunks that run through it shimmer in the soft light as it presses down on all creatures alike. She listened intently to Tev, her violet eyes forever upon his features. Zo couldn't help but to feel a tinge of nervousness as it began running through her veins and then settling awkwardly into the pit of her stomach. This was the first real big thing that she has ever done with her life, thus far, so she was a tad bit on edge, though outwardly she didn't let it show.

The Esh'lahier Elf stepped forward with Tev's bidding and she spoke up very clear and bold, though she wasn't sure just what he had wanted to hear she spoke anyway. "My name is Zokia Zora, most just call me Zo for short. I actually came here from a distant land but it was only when I got here that I decided that I wanted to become a Ranger. I grew up with all brothers and although they never let me train with them I watched them every day. Ummm......my life was never exciting but I am hoping that will all change now." Upon clearing her throat Zo took a step back, praying that she wasn't out of line for speaking up first.

Seeing that the other Ranger Trainee was done, Malius cleared his throat.

"My name is Malius, and as you can probably see, I am a dwarf. I was born in the wilderness of Alleria Prime. While still a child, my parents were slain and I was enslaved. I finally broke free from my torturous captives, and wandered lost until I came to the gates of Narim, where I currently reside."

Malius stepped back, painfully rubbing the scar on his cheek.

Averielle ran all the way to the field where 'basic principles' would be held. She did this both for training and so that she would not be late. But once she heard the voices of the other rangers she slowed her pace to a walk and she stiled her breath. Pushing a lock of hair out of her face she approached Tev, "Serale Tev. I hope I'm not late!

Tev listened with interest when Zo and Malius told a bit about themselves. The comments on their backgrounds helped him know a bit more about them and their aims in life.

"Averielle, you were able to hear what Zo and Malius had to say about themselves. Now it is time for you take a turn and tell us a bit about your background. You folks will be working together and living together from now on. The sooner you learn a bit about each other, the sooner you will work together smoothly.

Considering her own past Averielle listened to the two new recruits. She considered her own story utterly boring, so she decided to tell the shortened version. ”I really don’t have much to tell about. I lived alone with my brother, but he joined the military. I had a minor adventure and I thought it was best if I learned how to protect myself. When considering my options I recalled the rangers I had met in my childhood. I thought that this was the best way considering my love for nature. And now I really enjoy the rangers, and I can’t wait to continue my training.”

Once the introduction were done, Tev decided to start.

"We have Rangers to preserve the balance of both plant and animal life, and to safeguard human life as we are able to by ourselves, or by assisting military units. Rangers serve the local community by being guardians of the forest and it's inhabitants.

"Additionally we watch over and extend assistance to farmers and others who work the land.

"Think about this and tell me what it means to you and and just what is expected of you. Who other than farmers, work the land and deserve our assistance?"

Averielle considered Tev's questions for several seconds. She thought of other ways people use the land; they live on it, camp in it, grow food from it, raise animals on it, and hunt from it. "Tev. I don't know if they 'work' the land, but people hunting food for their families use the land and the animals. We should probably help any one hunt who cannot find food for themselves. But along these lines we should also guard the animals. We should work against poaching and protect animals from being hunted into non-existence.”

Zokia gave Averielle enough time to finish answering the question before she herself would attempt to give her opinion on Tev's question(s). Almost as if in deep thought Zo bit her bottom lip. She pondered greatly on what Tev and the other female had said as she nodded, ready to speak.

"I think that those who need our assistance would be.... Not only the farmers but others that cannot defend themselves. Those such as the trees, which would encompass the plants, the wildlife of course. But I think also those that live in Alleria or anyone that Alleria sees fit to ally with."

Zo cleared her throat, when she was done, as if she were nervous about her answer being correct. She looked toward Tev and smiled slightly.

Tev was pleased overall with the replies.

"You seem to have the hang of that part. Others with whom Rangers work are Woodcutters, Herbalists and Trappers. We need to ensure that they do not take too much and endanger the balance in the forest.

"The next point to cover is that the Ranger is an exemplary citizen, practicing loyalty to the Emperor and all duly appointed authority. Just as the Rangers strive to keep order in the forest, we support those who keep order in the City, Province and Empire. We do not work for these leaders directly but we acknowledge their authority and support them when needed.

"Let me hear your interpretation of this and how you feel about it."
