Ranger Trainees Getting Acquainted - Averielle, BelegElle, Galliban, S'Lon

OK folks, gather around the fireplace in the Ranger Hall and tell the other Rangers whatever you want them to know about your PC. Do this with IC conversation. Try to be thorough.

Training is more interesting when you interact and this is the easiest way to start doing that.

Each of you has enough fluid time to participate.

Wandering into the main hall, the warmth from the small fire flickering in the fireplace dispelled any gathering chill from the room. Now that the seasons had finally changed and Spring had arrived the days were beginning to warm with a promise of the Summer to come, however, the evenings still held the memories of the recent winter.

A quick look at the fireplace showed that the store of logs was adequate for the slow burn that this evening would consume but tomorrow more would need to be brought in, so he made a mental note to deal with it in the morning.

So far he was the only one there, but he hoped that tonight he would have the chance to meet all of the current trainees together. It would be the first time that all had the chance to be together and it would be interesting to see how it progressed. He continued through the hall and drew himself a mug of tea, then wandered back to the fireplace. Placing the mug on the mantle, he leaned against the fireplace, supporting himself with his left arm and stared into the flames.

Galliban Tyren is an upstanding Citizen
Galliban noticed S'Lon's figure even as she came down the stairs. She had only come down for water. She continued through the hall without giving much of a sign that she had even noticed her fellow Ranger. She poured herself a glass of water and started to walk back toward the staircase. Half of the way across the room, she changed her mind about going back to her quarters. Her room was a bit chilly and the warmth of the fire was just what she needed. Galliban walked back toward the fireplace and sat down in one of the chairs. She nodded only slightly to S'Lon, as she wasn't much for conversation. She had seen him before, but she didn't remember them actually meeting.

Averielle is an upstanding Citizen
Averielle slowly walked down into the hall, trying to memorize the path she was taking. She stopped when she saw the two new figures in the room. Unsure of their position in the hall, she approached them respectfully but without fear. Because their silence was so great she wondered whether or not she should speak. Finally coming to the conclusion that someone would have to say something eventually, she chose not to be the first. The hem of her cloak swept at her feet as the walked over towards the wall across from the stairs. Finding a comfortable place she leaned back and watched the people in front of her. Averielle showed no outward signs of unease, but she swept her braid behind her head and idly played with the chain on her neck.

The flames flickered in the fireplace as they cheerfully gnawed away at the logs stacked there, occasionally the pile would shift as a support was consumed and the resulting hiss of logs shifting ash was marked by a few sparks making short lived escape attempts.

The woman that came down the stairs was one that he recognised as a passing acquaintance in the Hall, but one to whom he had never been formally introduced and circumstances had previously prevented more than a nod acknowledging the others presence. He was pleased when she apparently changed her mind and came back into the Hall and returned her nod as she sat down in one of the chairs that were a comfortable distance from the flames. Undecided about how to break the silence and not feeling an immediate need to do so, he reached across and lifted the mug from its perch on the mantle.

Movement from the stairs drew his eye again as he cradled the mug and finished the tea. This was someone he had not met before and he watched covertly as she approached. Finally as she settled against the wall he realised that the two of them already here might present a somewhat aloof appearance. A visiting Ranger would probably be more forthright and so the woman was most likely a guest or perhaps even a new trainee and since he was standing he ought to greet her and invite her to make herself more comfortable.

Pushing himself away from the fireplace and standing upright, he transferred the mug to his left hand and walked over to where the woman leaned against the wall. “Serale,” he began as he got closer and held out his hand in greeting, “my name is S’Lon, are you just visiting us this evening or have you joined this Hall?” As he spoke a smile crept onto his face and his right eyebrow rose as he asked the question.

OOC:Sorry I'm late, I never even saw this thread??))

::BelegElle would slowly make his way towards the fireplace, he was dressed only in blue garbs, clean and truthfully not like his normal style..He saw that a few others were present, though wouldn't bother greeting them..Except for a soft nod which was given to S'lon..BelegElle lowered himself to the floor, sitting in what you would call "Indian Style"..Hands pressed slowly to his knee's as he faced the fire..Eyes closing as his breathing became slow and deep..Perhaps a form of meditation? Yes, perhaps it was..Though he got limited sleep, and "Meditating" when he could was almost as soothing as his sleep..Therefore did a great deal of good for him.::

Grateful that someone had broke the silence Averielle reached out to take the hand that was offered to her. "Serale. My name is Averielle. And I have come to train in your hall." She kept her answer short, as she was unsure what the customs were in this hall. But she was glad that the man in front of her had met her with kindness, it gave her hope that her training would be filled with fun as well as hard work.

As Averielle took his hand and introduced herself, S’Lon gave a sigh of relief as now that BelegElle had also arrived, he had drawn a mental picture of the four of them standing and sitting in the room and effectively ignoring each other. His smile broadened and reached his eyes as the humour of the image struck him – had he not spoken when he had, he suspected that the wall of silence would have grown to such a height that he would not have dared to breach it.

“Well, welcome indeed Averielle to our small band, let me introduce you to the others and then perhaps we can relax and start to get to know each other. I have been here a short while and I am still in the early phases of training.” He turned half a pace so that he stood just off to her side and no longer blocked the view of the other two. He gestured with his left hand, “sitting down in the chair is Galliban – she has been here the longest and is the most advanced in training, but I will let her introduce herself as she will as this is also the first time we have really been together in a social setting. Seated on the floor is BelegElle – he is also new to the Hall but has had some training in another Hall. Altogether we are all fairly new and at the beginning of our training, so don’t feel intimidated and I for one look forward to training with you."

He paused for a moment and swung back to face her. "Now, before we settle down, can I show you the kitchen facilities and get you something to drink?” He waved his empty mug that he still clutched in his left hand and continued “I need a refill myself so I’m going that way.”

::He seemed to hear his words of introduction towards the lady, though he was facing away from them, his head tilted downwards slowly and softly, before lips would part to gently utter his words..:: "'Good afternoon Mi'lady, The name is indeed BelegElle, as my kind ~friend~ has stated..A true pleasure it is to meet you..."::His eyes would open then, to face more or less Galliban upon her chair..:: "Greetings to you as well, Mi'Lady..Forgive my rudeness..It is a pleasure to meet your aquaintence as well."

A small smile appeared on Averielle's face, at the joke that S'lon seemed to be sharing only with himself. It was rare for her to smile, but something in his eyes appealed to her. Looking forward to developing a friendship with this man she continued to listen to what he had to say.

Upon his introduction she looked beyond S'lon to the objects of his speech. Taking in their appearances, she was glad to hear that she was not too for behind in training. Hopefully they would be kind like S'lon.

Hearing the new greeting she turned to face the speaker. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well." Though she could not see his face she was glad that he had spoken to her.

Thinking over S'lon's offer she realized that she was indeed thirsty. So she was happy to accept S'lon's offer. Nodding her head she said, "Some water would be nice"

::His face would scrunch up then..He sensed that he was being rude, and worked instantly at stoping such a thing..Instead he'd use his arms, which lowered to his sides, sitting up only enough to turn and face the others, feet extended forward, chest expanding as he took in a deep breath..He said no more, though instead simply looked over the people which were rallying about the fire, letting them speak..As indeed, he was not the most talkative one, by any means::

"Serale," Galliban said BelegElle, simply replying to his greeting and obviously not all that eager to converse. "And serale to you, as well." she said to Averielle, turning briefly so as to not be rude.

OOC: Sorry, very rushed...

Averielle caught BlegElle's movement out of the corner of her eye. She nodded in his general direction, acknowledging him. Then at Galliban's greeting she turned that way. "Serale to you, and well met."

Smiling, S’Lon returned Averielle’s nod happy to see her relax a little and once she had finished greeting the others led her over to the catering area where he drew some water for her. Refilling his tea, he led her back to the others and gestured for her to take a seat close to the fire. After waiting to make sure what she would do, he drew up a chair for himself, his fingers caressing and appreciating anew the craftsmanship of the chair.

“So Averielle, perhaps it would help us know each other if we knew a little bit about our backgrounds and what motivated us to come here and seek training as Rangers. I suspect that we will all find telling our tales a little difficult in front of strangers. I am beginning to suspect that those called to be Rangers are not by nature the more sociable of people. It would perhaps be cruel to ask you to start and discuss yourself in front of strangers, so since I have met all here except yourself before, I should start.”

He spoke mainly for Averielle, but also for any of the others who listened, sometimes catching her eye and sometimes looking inwards as the memories were brought to the fore. “I don’t want to bore you with details of my past, but I have been in the Empire only these last few months. I was born on a small chain of islands on the other side of the Sea of Diana – my parents were shipwrecked on some reefs to the North of the islands. While I was still young my parents died of a fever so I grew up partially adopted by a local tavern keeper. Not having much to do during the day, I spent much of my time exploring the local countryside.”

“As I grew older, I listened to many of the tales of the Empire from the sailors who drank in the tavern and I was particularly caught by what I heard of the Rangers. Of course, they knew very little of real facts as sailors and Rangers spend very little time in each others company, but I heard enough that I wanted to learn more. Recently, circumstances changed and meant that I needed to find my own way in the world and I took the chance to take ship for the Empire. So here I am.”

He paused for a moment and continued, “but that does not tell you much of why I wanted to be a Ranger, and to be honest its difficult to explain. During my explorations of the islands, I spent a lot of time on my own just trying to learn about the forests and hills and it was something that just called to me. I don’t find it easy to socialise, present company excepted, “ a rueful smile chased across his face as he paused to take breath “and I love being out in the wilderness.”

He stopped, a light flush of embarrassment rising onto his face and he looked around at the others to see if any would continue for themselves.

::He would lift his head to S'lon, though his body was still positioned as it had been earlier..Blue hues glancing about between the three people..He found it interesting, for the most part, that three strangers could be brought into a room without conflict..He'd let his lips part in a chuckle, after S'lon released his own story.:: "Oh Come on now S'lon..Your the best storyteller here, give-us another, hmm?"::His face would scrunch up then in pure amusement as he looked around again, he thought he had heard something? But Alas, it was nothing..He found himself doing such a thing often in Narim, he was used to Natura..In fact, he was beginning to miss the quietness there..::
