Ranger Festival Awards Ceremony

The End of the games had come and it was now time for all the competitors to gather for a feast and fellowship. It was also the time to Award the winners of the games.
Several tents were setup on the grounds with just about every kind of beast and fowl known to the empire cooked to perfection and ready for consumption.
Other tents held the very best in Ale and other drink.

As everyone gathered to eat the Thane of Narim stepped onto a raised platform and with a cone shaped device he began to speak and his voice carried so all could hear.

I want to personally welcome all of you to Narim, We’ve had a excellent turn out and it was much needed for our little part of the Empire
Then he called out for Tev TEV, Tev please stand up would you? As the Ranger stood Michum continued. This has all been made possible by this man and his Hall! Lets all give him a hand. The sound of the clapping hands was deafening as the towns people as well as the competitors showed their gratitude. Then holding up his hand Thane Michum signaled for quiet and once the sound died down he added. Tev, please come up hear and you and I can hand out the Awards.

Kenasoya stood amidst the crowd of citizens that had gathered for the final ceremony of the Ranger tourney. She watched distractedly as the man named Tev was applauded and only out of reflex clapped her own hands together. It was better to just go along with the flow, she figured.

Wearily, she broke from the applause to rub vigorously at her eyes before looking back at the platform. She was a bit tired - the war games had just finished and the urchin had given her all in it, covering a lot of distance and tousling with her competitors even after the games had been called. Secretly, Kenasoya couldn't wait to be called to the platform - she'd never won a damn thing before in her life, certainly not for her particular skills. Frankly, she didn't think they gave awards for the things she was good at. But apparently she was wrong.

Regardless, even beyond the awards ceremony, Kenasoya was starving. The smell of the fowl that wafted across the dirt awards clearing had stroked her stomach into an audible expression of its hunger and, blushing, she clapped her hands over her lean torso and tried frantically to will it quiet. Slyly, the girl glanced from side to side to see if either of her two companions had noticed the rumbling noise. Hopefully the crowd noise had covered her stomach's famished growl.

Medea stood beside Kenasoya as the trio, Kreal included, awaited the award ceremony to begin in earnest and hopefully quickly complete in order that the evening of revellry could begin. Whilst the aroma of roasting meat assailed her nostrils it was the sight of the drinks tent that had caught her attention the most. There were to be many tankards downed in that establishment before the small group would begin the real entertainment down amongst the docks later on.

Applauding with the crowd at Tev's introduction Medea genuinely clapped her appreciation. She had spent an evening with the Master Ranger at his ranch during the Festival, indeed had even helped in the preparation of the food for the other guests, and he had appeared to be sincere individual.

Kreal also stood next to Kenasoya, opposite Medea, and was eager for the celebrations to begin. The urchin had might as well have been his little sister, and he was bound to enjoy time spent getting to know elven female better. But for now, there was the ceremony, and with the ceremony came formality.

As the thane spoke, Kreal was surprised to hear Tev's name mentioned. He had never realised that his fellow finalist in the unarmed combat competition had been involved in much of the festival's setup.

He couldn't help but clap his hands in applause at the Master Ranger's efforts, as the animosity he had held for Tev throughout their unarmed combat bout was all but forgotten.

It was indeed heartening that while Tev was competing, other Rangers participated in the final preparations for this final ceremony.
When called upon by the Thane, Tev stood and then nodded in acknowledgement to the applause. He was glad that the Narim Ranger Hall was able to host this. Then the Thane called on Tev to help hand out the awards. On his way to the raised platform, Tev nodded to the Rangers and others whom he knew or recently met.
When he reached the Thane, Tev nodded respectfully and said to the Thane, "I'll be glad to assist you".

He stood at the front of the crowd, enthusiastically participating in the cheering, applause, and general merry-making. Genuinely enjoying himself, perhaps for the first time in a long time, he waited for the commencement of the ceremony. He did not know Master Ranger Tev very well, only from the archery tournament where he'd lost to him, but Syn payed proper respect anyway.

For a moment he looked around the crowd to see if anyone he recognized was in attendance, namely Demant or Tyreal, but seeing neither he returned his attention to where Tev and the Thane were. Inhaling deeply, he allowed the smells of freshly cooked food to intoxicate his senses.

The Thane knew this was the Rangers affair and although honored to be part of it, he didn’t want to run the show.
He continued clapping as Tev made his way onto the platform and stopped to offer his hand to a job well done. Grasping the man’s hand he gave it a firm shake and asked How do you want to do this? I just as well like to step back and let you lead.

Tev nodded to the Thane.
"We appreciate the fact that you allowed the Tournament to take place here in Narim. The Rangers and all the other participants would be honored if you made the presentations to the winners. It would add to the status and the formality of the Ranger Tournament."
After bowing, Tev stepped back.

Shifting her weight, Kenasoya sighed and refolded her arms across her chest. There had been a brief handshake, a bow, and an exchange of words so quiet that the crowd confined girl hadn't been able to make out what was said. Glancing to either side, Kenasoya smiled sideways at both Medea and Kreal before redirecting her attentions back to the stage - the food was calling her name, hopefully the awards ceremony wouldn't take terribly long.

”As you wish, but I would like you stay up here with me, after all Tev this is your show” he said with a smile.

Holding up his hands again he spoke “Ok right, lets start with the Archery tournament, we had two events and the winner of the first event horseback Archery goes to Eschaton Khazid’hea, I hope I pronounced that correctly.
Taurus a fellow ranger in the Narim hall gave the Thane the trophy, it was a beautiful full size golden arrow the thing must have weighed two to three pounds.
The Thane looked at the crowd waiting for the Champion to come forward. As he was waiting he continued We also have a second place ribbon for the runner up Demant

At last the Thane and Tev had Medea's attention once more as the prize-giving appeared to begin in earnest. However, Medea refused to applaud the two prize winners of the horseback archery contest. Knowing the two names announced as those of the tainted dark elves she cursed the fact that the pair had taken the laurels. She would have entered the contest herself if she had known that her dark brethren were likely to take the honours. Undoubtedly she would have lost and failed to prevent their winning but at least she would have tried.

But then a smile crossed her face. The last she had seen of Demant he had been escorted to the city gaol under arrest for his assault upon her. And Eschaton had been carried from the wargames field for surgery to his knee thanks to the efforts of Kenasoya. Looking up Medea searched the crowd for any signs of the pair.

OOC: A technicality I know, but I do not think that either Demant nor Eschaton entered the Ranger Tournament under those names. Demant entered as Seraffeth Ferradoon and Eschaton as Synrei Megiddo.

But more importantly Eschaton has not posted for over a month and is not reading any PMs. And Demant retired his PC some time ago due to RL issues.

Reflexively, Kenasoya began to applaud when the rest of the crowd did so - but quickly she realized exactly who she was applauding and her claps came to a stuttered and weak finale.

Bloody Vysstichi.

Swapping laudation for a hard glare, Kenasoya folded her arms yet again and cocked one hip arrogantly as she waited for enough of a pause to pass before the Mayor went on. Neither of the dark elves was appearing, she knew that much - one was in the Gaol for assault and the other was hopefully having his leg amputated. A wry, distasteful smirk pulled at the urchin's lips as she leveled her gaze at the platform. One of the Vysstichi, at least, she would be meeting again and under circumstances more favorable to her ends. Evens, sometimes, had a tendency to run amuck.

Muttering something less then amicable beneath her breath, Kenasoya tilted her gaze to the ground and began to fumble absently with the knife at her waist as she sighed and leaned her head on Kreal's shoulder.

Tev waved to Medea and Kenasoya while they waited for the recipients of the awards to come forward. He rubbed some of his aches and pains during the pause.
He commented to the Thane, "The trophy is indeed a fine looking prize. Many will remember the hospitality of Narim and your generosity."

Well after a short wait Michum turned to Tev Perhaps they had better things to do. What do we have for our next champion.

OOC: No worries Medea I just thought it would flow better if I used their new names. Hehe As always you are on top of things. You are correct Demant has retired, not sure about syn.

Tev spoke in a low voice to the Thane and said, "Demant was the winner of the Archery contest. He is not present. With your permission, I will announce the winner of the Swordplay contest."
Facing the audience, Tev announced in a loud voice, "The winner of the Swordplay contest is Medea Lightfoot".
He then looked directly at Medea with a smile and said, "Medea, come up here to be recognized."
