Hawkmoon's Bows and Staffs
Rather than having stores that sell all weapons at cheap prices, Riparia instead seems to house shops that cater for individual markets. Here in Hawkmoon's can be found all manner of bows, crossbows, spears and staffs. It is yet another example of a traditional shop maintaning a level of excellence.
Inside takes the guise of a workshop much like a carpentary. Indeed, the novelty of Hawkmoon's is that all work is done in view of the customers. The large interior plays host to work benches, various pieces of equipment and then shelves and displays filled with weapons. Various craftsmen are busy working at their benches while a scattering of shoppers browse through the grand selection on offer.
- Bows
- Short Bow - 100 crowns
A standard bow is made from a strong yet flexible wood. Crafted carefully, it can take severe pressure that comes from firing arrows. The short bow is best used up close.
- Composite Short Bow - 150 crowns
The composite bow is made from wood and other materials that enhance the strength and performance. It fires harder and faster making it an ideal weapon for short ranges.
- Long Bow - 175 crowns
The long bow stands at about five or six feet and thus it has a longer range than the short bow. Of course, the longer the range, the harder it is to hit a target. Meanwhie, it packs more of a punch at shorter ranges.
- Composite Long Bow - 200 crowns
Combining the power of the short composite bow with the range of the long bow, this is indeed a deadly and effective weapon when placed in skilled hands. It is the favoured bow by hunters as it enables deadly results from long distances.
- Elven War Bow - 400 crowns
The ultimate bow features a wooden frame enhanced with composite materials to strengthen it. Furthermore, the range is greatly improved through the intricate design and shape. The combination of long range and powerful shooting make it the finest bow available.
- Crossbows
- Hand Crossbow - 200
Crossbows are more expensive than bows simply because they are much more difficult to make. Using a catch system to release its bolt, the hand crossbow is the smallest of all, though at close quarters it is considerably deadly.
- Light Crossbow - 250 crowns
A favoured weapon of City Guardsmen, it is ideal for use in and around cities since it shoots with great power at short ranges. Crafted from a strong wood, the design has to be perfect if the crossbow is to last long.
- Heavy Crossbow - 300 crowns
A bigger version of the crossbow means it has a greater range. The power is also greatly enhanced. One drawback is the weight and as such, it requires two hands to use as well as taking time to reload.
- Arrows and Bolts
- Standard Arrow - 1 crown
The simpest of arrows. The shaft is made from a strong wood weighted enough to allow flight, though not to heavy. The tip is in the shape of a triangle that is ideal for piercing flesh.
- Steel Shafted Arrow - 2 crowns
The shaft is made from a light steel that enables the arrow to fly harder and faster. These arrows are more ideal for shooting at armored targets.
- Flaming Arrow - 5 crowns
The tips consist of metal arrow heads but behind that is a specially added material that wraps around the base of the arrow tip where it is connected to the shaft. The material is highly flamable providing the user with 'flaming' arrows.
- Crossbow Bolt - 1 crown (any size)
Standard bolts are made from a thick wood and the tips from a hard metal. The strength of the bolts and the crossbow itself means that it can pierce almost all armor types at close range.
- Extras
- Bow String - 3 crowns
Each pack comes with a set of three strings, made from a flexible and strong material.
- Wrist Guard - 10 crowns
A simple wrist band made of leather. It is strapped to the wrist of the arm that grips the bow, preventing the string hitting the arm upon release of an arrow.
- Quiver - 20 crowns
This small leather quiver can hold twenty five standard arrows. Straps allow for it to be worn on the back.
- Large Quiver - 40 crowns
Made from a tough leather, this quiver holds up to fifty standard sized arrows. It can be strapped to the back.
- Staffs
- Quarterstaff - 30 crowns
The basic quarterstaff is about six feet tall and made of a strong and durable wood. Fashioned and hardened using particular methods, it can be an effective weapon when used in a club like fashion.
- Metal-capped Quarterstaff - 35 crowns
With the inclusion of a metal cap at the top of the staff, it simply offers the ability to thrust at opponents. Ideal for cracking heads or other such things.
- Bladed Quarterstaff - 80 crowns
This staff includes the addition of a spearhead at the top thus effectively making it a spear in its own right. But the shaft is still made of a strong wood as opposed to the spear version.
- War Staff - 150 crowns
The war staff is the best money can buy. As usual it is made of the finest and toughest wood and then shaped and hardened effectively. But one stage of creation involves splitting the shaft in two and placing metal rods inside for increased strength.
- Spears and Javelins
- Javelin - 75 crowns
It is not uncommon for the shaft to be made of a light metal though more often than not it is made from wood. Filed down to allow better flight through the air, the javelin is suprisingly accurate and deadly at shorter ranges.
- Short Spear - 80 crowns
A standard spear comprises of a long wooden shaft of about five feet and at the top sits a long spike of varying lengths. Usually, the spike has smaller spikes at the base to cause yet more damage.
- Long Spear - 90 crowns
Same as the traditional spear though extended. Long spears can range from 6 feet and upwards, offering greater reach and are ideal for dismounting horsemen.
- Halberd - 95 crowns
Combining features of both the spear and axe, the halberd is a long polearm that has an axe shaped head at one end. It is counter-balanced at the rear with a fluke and has a spike coming from out the top.

Lasia walked into the shop and knew right away what she wanted. She as surprised at how low the price as on the item. She walked up to the counter.
"Serale. I am in need of a Bladed and capped Quarterstaff. Also where would I be able to find training for such a weapon as well?"
Lasia stood there awaiting a reply from the shopkeep

Hawkmoon seems not to care that you are a vysticchi. Though he is elf himself, nothing in his face or eyes indicates any degree of prejudice whatsoever. That guard at the gates may have been rascist, but at least Hawkmoon was proving that there were those that were not.
"Capped and bladed? Yes, we have those in stock. We used to offer staffs with caps and blades as additional features. However, now we just make the bladed staff with a metal cap automatically. Makes sense really when you consider the joining process....oh excuse me. I'm rambling on as usual".
The old elf gave an embarrased smile and then turned and walked towards a nearby rack holding a multitude of staffs. He beckoned you to follow him and once there, began to pick a few off the rack and hand them to you.
Each of the staffs were made to perfection and none looked the same. It was certainly true that Hawkmoon gave equal care and attention to each of his products.
"Now, most of these are six feet in length. I got some longer ones about somewhere. Making 'em shorter is of course no problem at all".

Lasia smiled at the gent. She could picture in her mind his blood flowing from his body and creating a pool of red beneath her feet. She hated men, ecspecially surface dwelling Elven men. She knew that she could not get into much trouble without being arrested and how would it look that a Vyssticchi had attacked an normal elf. She just nodded and continued to smile as he rambled on. Once he stopped she began to speak.
"No the six footer shall do just fine. I will also need a way to carry it if you carry such an item."
lasia stood before the ma contemplating ways to kill him but she just stood still waiting to hear his responce.

"Carry it? How do you mean ma'am? You just carry it in hand no"?
The shopkeep seemed somewhat confused. To him, a quarterstaff was simply carried in the hand or more commonly used as a walking stick.
He stood there and awaited your answer, oblivious to the thoughts that ran wild in your mind.

Taking the 80 crowns from you, the man stepped back from the rack and gestured to the selection of staffs.
"Take your pick ma'am", he said with a smile.

Easos
Hawkmoon turns to greet you as you enter, a smile on his face as usual.
"Hand crossbow and twenty bolts will cost you 220 crowns good sir".
He leads you over to the crossbow selection and there before you are many designs. They are all individual and you can see that the craftsmanship is expert on each one.

"The quivers are 20 crowns sir", Hawkmoon says with a polite smile.
There are some before you besides the crossbows and bolts. They are made from leather and come complete with adjustable straps to fit any humonoid form.

Easos
"Take your pick good sir. I cannot recommend one in particualr since they are all fine quivers".
Hawkmoon was not bragging but instead was merely proud of his work. He had good reason to be because all the choices seemed to be of a high quality.
"Will there be anything else for you good sir"?
