Eye Ball Daltinan Soldiers on the march!

From Malice the dust could be seen; Daltina soldiers were marching to Malice! They came from two directions; Daltina itself bore a large force, but from Arconis came another sizeable soldiery, seemingly hastedly recruited in the city. Rumour had it that Daltina had annexed Arconis 'for it's protection'.

They did not move very close to Malice, but close enough to block the roads.

Caravans from merchants and the like were blocked by the soldiers making camp. Times would get rough on Malice; But had not their lords made sure of their survival during such an occasion?

The Daltina city troops numbered around 15,000 men and women; in addition of which came apothecaries, priests, cooks, quartermasters, smiths and other allied personel. The camp was gigantic.

The other camp, which was within a stonesthrow of the first was roughly five thousand troopers, in addition of which was a sizeable chunk of about two thousand irregulars, with barely any training and equipment, they were more like conscripts. Arconis hadn't been the perfect place to conscript soldiers; the recent civil war had caused too many of their number to fall.

When night fell, and the camps were made; Malice showed no signs of despair, only the most necessery of precautions were taken ; essentials were dragged inside; nothing more. The orcs stayed put in their arrayed netwerk of tunnels, grotto's, towers and trenches. They felt save enough.

The Lord Thane had arrived on scene. Protected by his own well trained An'gorian Eliete. The giant's armor was in place, and he strode along side several generals, surveying the scene.

The battle would start soon. The men were well trained veterans, and Nashkel would soon see the second city to fall into his jurisdiction. He would soon control the powers of Malice itself. He didn't know what he would have done to the city fortress after he had taken it, and the people of Daltina, as well as the rest of Enamoria slept well again. Perhaps he would make it a main millitary fort to keep the peace in Enamoria. Times in the empire were rough, and Nashkel knew that Enamoria had best have an army strong enough to protect themselves, for the Imperial Legions assigned to its defence were not enough.

"I need a trained saurus for my mount in this battle," Nashkel said to an assistant. "Also, be sure my men are well fed, and remind them that they are Daltina's Bravest, serving our fair city well."

Before they would go into battle, Nashkel would give a talk to the men. He wanted everything to go like clockwork, and he wanted things to go as planned. He wanted as few losses on both sides as possible.

"Send a messenger to the city, to determine the terms of their surrender." said Nashkel to another one of his assistants.

"Request that our experienced generals form up plans to be shown to me."

OOC: Jonaleth, I suppose the other 5000 troops are in Arconis\Daltina?

Within the great mass of soldiers heading towards Malice was a young dwarven sergeant in command of a squad of 50 harden veterans. The young dwarven sergeant although young in terms of his race was himself a harden veteran, with his presents and sword already seen upon the field of battle at the Battle of ZinníSunn, and numerous skirmishes with the forces of Malice over the last pattern.

The Daltina Armed Forcesí journey through the wilderness of the Sovereignty of Enamoria had been uneventful and if somewhat hot in the dwarven sergeantís opinion. However, the dwarven sergeant knew that this period of calm was the calm before the storm. Unlike many of the soldiers heading towards Malice with the Daltina Armed Forces and their Allies, the dwarven sergeant had on a number of occasions seen first-hand the destruction that Malice could bring to bear, and the casualties that followed such destruction.

However, like the true professional soldier he was, the dwarven sergeant upon reaching the designated campsite started issuing orders to his squad and forgot about the past. Like every member of his squad, the dwarven sergeant wears his Daltina Armed Forcesí Tunic with the badge of Daltina upon it. Underneath this Tunic the dwarven warrior wears his Daltina Armed Forcesí vest of maille. More importantly every one of his soldier and himself were armed with two short-swords, both of which are usually sheathed and attached to a belt.

As for their defence, the dwarven sergeantís squad each carried a Daltina Armed Forcesí standard metal round-shield, which had the symbol of Daltina upon its face. It was clear for even the enemy to see, that the dwarven sergeantís squad was part of the Infantry. However, unlike most of his soldiers, the dwarven male also has a boned handled dagger in his right boot, which would hopefully go unseen by the enemy until sometime in which it was needed.

Once his squad has set up their own little part of the armiesí camp, the dwarven sergeant tells his squad to get some sleep because tomorrow the fight would begin. Having nothing better to do, the dwarven sergeant goes to his own tent, set up by some of his soldiers, and waits for orders.

Yet another army also came to fight agaisn't Malice. This one fought under the banner of and for New Coldmoon. Many military men and women too could be seen marching, 4900 in total, 900 trained New Coldmoon Continentals and 4000 Militia, poorly trained and equipped, if at all. They walked to meet up with the armies from Daltina and Arconis, in order to provide their support. This was not the whole of the New Coldmoon army and another 360 men wandered in the forest, detached from the main army. These were searching for signs of enemy scouts and other possible problems, while moving closer towards the actual meeting point. The meeting point was obviously where the two other armies had set up their camps.

As they approached closer and closer, Arakano Himmer, Military Commander and General for the Keryn Regiment that was the New Coldmoonian Army, dispatched a messenger. This messenger was his aide, Solonor Sunstar, he was sent to meet up with Nashkel Angor and had recieved proper instructions as to what he was supposed to do. This was basicly to let the thane know that New Coldmoon came with about 5000 troops, where about 1000 of these were trained and well-equipped, with the rest being mere militia, this was not including all the miscellaneous people, such as the priests, cooks, quartermasters and so on. Of course, all the more detailed information about what equipment they had and so on, would have to come straight from the military commander. Solonor was merely there to make their presence and numbers known.

All in all, it was still one big army and it certaintly seemed big even from a distance. Malice could probably see it, though they did keep a good deal away from that city. In total, there could be expected to be around 6000 men in total, but this was including non-military and so the number was increased somewhat, not to mention that it also included the wilders wandering around in the nearby woods.

Wilder Division, Shades Platoon

Meanwhile, through the forest there wandered the 360 men, among which were included the two recruits, Arraeth and Sabar. These were both members of the Shades platoon and they too could see the two other camps, since they walked at the edge of the forest along with their ten companions. Including Swift-spear, or Teff as he preferred to be called. There was peace and quiet for them, although whether it would remain was a question that weighed heavily upon each and every wilderness soldier.

OOC Nashkel, you'd have to play those messenger NPC's yourself; You don't have any generals unless you appoint PC's.

IC

A quartermaster came to Nashkel quickly and with him he bore the approximate inventory of the army of Daltina and that of Arconis/Charisma.

"Sir, In Daltina, we got 15,000 regular troops, well trained. All bear a suit of chainmail with a haubert bearing our white and blue. each of them is armed with a shortsword. We've got about 5,000 of them specialised in longbow, a tenth of them are former rangers from the province. We've got about six hundred good horses, but no sheets. " He looked on his paper.

"We've got the 5,000 longbows and eight thousand shortbows. About 350,000 arrows for them. Twelve thousand spears and about as much shields, our standard kind. We have brought fifteen light catapults, and brought enough shots for every catapult to fire thrice. We didn't bring any balistea; they were too heavy." He looked on the paper for a bit and grabbed another report.

"Our Arconis/Charisma department has got 4,500 thousand troops; all veterans. Each is armoured by a chain shirt, with a blue and white hauberk, red is added to indicate Charisma fortress. They are all armed with our round shield, and each have a pike or halbert, a shortbow, 24 arrows and a shortsword. Each of them has a full helm, instead of the open-faced helmet our troops come equiped with." He shrugged for a bit.

"They didn't bring any siege equipment or good horses, but they brought two and a half thousand recruits, with only a simple spear drill. About two hundred are from the old Arconis army, and they are equiped with chainmail and spears, with backup longswords and large shields. The irregulars have leather armour, skullcaps and quick fashioned pikes and clubs for close combat, some have shortswords."

"What are your orders?"

Solonor walked beside his commander, General Himmer. Throwing a casual glance over his shoulder once every few minutes, just to ensure that nothing disturbed the marching army, the elf glided along his commander, dressed in the striking-blue uniform of The Order of Purity, the elite branch of New Coldmoon's militia. They had just crested a small hill when the camp came into view. Solonor froze for a minute, gawking at the size. Never has the elf seen such a military force! The camp sprawled in all directions like a small city of tents, and smoke was wafting from many locations.

When the first of the troops reached the ending of the hill's slope, Solonor was dispatched to announce their arrival, with specific orders on what to inform the Lord Thane, Nashkel Angor. The Elf broke from the army, jogging in gliding steps toward the hub of the camp, where he was informed the Lord Thane would be.

Ten minutes after entering, Solonor reached the central area of the camp, and began looking for the Thane. He easily spotted Nashkel, mainly because the giant was towering over the heads of every other person in the place, and made his way through the soldiers to the Thane. Noticing that the Thane was talking to another man, Solonor patiently waited, not wanting to embarrass his city by interrupting the giant.

He came to a halt next to the man the Thane was talking to, and waited to be addressed. His uniform singled him out as not belonging to the armies of Daltina or Arconis, and so the elf was fairly confident that at some point he would receive the Thane's attention.

The Messenger

Why today? Why Him? Well, he had his order, and he would follow through with it. It would be a great honor. He rode on his pony towards the city, with a white flag of parley raised. He approached the gates, and cleared his voice.

"Formal Millitary Parley, The Lord Thane Nashkel An'gor, and the rest of Enamoria ask that a representitive be sent out to negotiate!"

With that the Messenger awaited his response.

Back at the Camp

Nashkel was waiting for the messenger to arrive back, when he had gathered several updates as to what is going on.

Nashkel had 15,000 Daltinan Soldiers, and it looked as if, They were fairly well trained, armed and suited.

A total of 7000 from Arconis. They were 4500 veterens, and 2500 conscripts. Not bad.

They were mostly poorly trained conscripts. He would perhaps use them to keep the blockade up. No sense in killing off large numbers when that could be avoided.

Perhaps that wouldn't be the best idea of all.

Perhaps he would formulate a good plan. There was only one way to turn new soldiers into hardened veterens. That was action, but that seemed to be a good way of loosing new soldiers too...

He thought for a moment putting small amounts of them in well trained regiments. They would see the rest of the regiment doing what they are ordered, and will see by example how to handle a fighting situation. He would do that, but he would also use them to support his main troops as they entered. They would see action, but he wouldn't send them as skirmishers... for that was usually a slaughter.

It was then that he saw the Elf.

"Serale Soldier." Said the imposing giant, ready in battle armor. "I am Nashkel. Thane of Daltina. What can I do for you? Do you bring me news from outside the camp?"

A soldier clad in sinister black painted armour came out of a small door in the main gate of Malice; Above him the gatehouse had a sinister appearance and soft drips of the morning dew could be heard as everyone kept silent. The helm he bore, clasped in his right arm had small wings as if a dragon resided within; and it's face was constricted in a bestial snarl.

His armour was heavy; many spikes and strange plantes ordained the archaic looking suit, but the man walked with a finesse unbeknownst to men in full plate. At his side was a large sword; which he hadn't drawn, as well as numerous knives and small axes.

The humans hair was greyish white and he seemed old; perhaps he was nearing fifty or so; His eyes brisked with keen intelligence though; and he smiled as the Daltinan representatives adressed him.

"What is your army doing here, young man?" He simply spoke to the messenger. Shoo! he seemed to imply with this; his statement attracted some laughter from the men behind the mantlets; but the orcs were all keeping safely hidden or guarding.

The menacing figure he saw before him was very Impressive. It was scary, but he was nothing in comparison to the Lord Thane. His stature was short, and he looked only as big as a human could be. Nashkel in his armor and armed would be more than a match for this hero of Malice.

The messenger took a deep breath, and pushed his doubts behind him, and looked the larger armed man in the eye.

"I have come on behalf of the Daltinan Forces, to bring you this message." said the messenger, Clearing his throat he continued.

"Because of the numerous crimes, not exclusive, but including, hijacking, murder, grand theft, and other infamous crimes ordered done by the city, The city of Daltina, as well as its allies, have come to remove the threat that Malice has become to our children, and our livelihood. If in good will Malice surrenders, and lays down their arms, they will be given full quarter, and justice will be done. However, if Malice doesn't give unconditional surrender, the city will be taken by force, and its inhabitance risk the dangers of war in their own homes, businesses, and yards. Any struggle against our forces will result in defeat."

The message delivered, he sat, still upon his donkey, his white flag held in his hands.

A few minutes after he had reached the center of the camp, the Lord Thane addressed Solonor. The elf bowed low, and uttered his reply to the giant. "Aye, Lord Thane, sir! I announce the arrival of the army from New Coldmoon, under the command of General Arakano Himmer. Our ranks include one thousand veterans, three hundered and sixty wilderness scouts and warriors, and four thousand conscripts- militia recruited for this war. This does not include priests, cooks, smiths, and their likes. Once we make camp, General Himmer himslf will come and meet you, my Lord, with more detailed information."
Having informed the Thane of New Coldmoon's army, and thus completing his orders, Solonor waited for further orders from the Thane, or to be dismissed, and so return to the army and help with setting up the camp.

The man smiled as he heard the grievous insults the messenger gave him. He gave a look behind him, as to his friends inside the fortress before turning his face back and replying to the poor man.

"Tough for you, you have so much issues with our place. Tell your giant to take his troops elsewhere for a picknick; anyone setting foot on Malician soil with evil intent will be slaughtered to a man; However we are open for normal relations and wish for a peacefull resolution of this misunderstanding. " He smiled and told the messenger to bring it to that thane of his, before he retreated back into the fortress; Iron door heavely locked.

OOC any PC soldiers; you can be on guard when hazbones attacks; this is for military personel only, so no giant thane :P just post you're on guard duty; nothing spotted yet. post it in the SHC thread above with the scouts.

"The great cities of Daltina, Arconis, and now New Coldmoon are united in a great conflict, which is going to rid Malice from our province." Said Nashkel to pure blooded elf.

"I thank you, and am quite glad you've come. Perhaps our united armies can share tasks that have been neglected for some time. After this conflict, that is. I welcome your general, and would like to speak to him as soon as possible."

It was then that the messenger returned.

"They arrogantly defied your request of a surrender, and I would suggest preparing for an underhanded enemy. I would suggest keeping our scouts keen, and our camps and good protected."

The giant looked at the messenger, sitting upon his donkey.

Speaking to the men who were standing around him, the Daltinan Thane gave some orders.

"You're right. Malice is an unpredictible enemy. We should keep a keen look out. Keep guards at the main roads, and patrols through the woods. We need to minimize the amount of food that Malice gets. We will starve them out. Also, men who aren't on guard duty should assist in the building of siege weaponry."

The capital city of Enamoria could not sit idly by while a war raged in their backyard. Though the city was weakened by the pox, the spirits of the people could not be broken. Patriotism and bravery were characterisitics of the noble city's denizens. Their brothers were fighting for a cause and they had to help. Too long had Medonia focused solely on their own survival. If the city were to perish they did not wish to be known as isolationists who did not rise to the call from their neighbors.

Sadly, Medonia could only spare 900 of their rangers for the fight. They were an integrated troupe made up mostly of keen elves. Out of the gates of their beloved city they marched towards the encampment of Daltinian soldiers. Had the thane ordered this decree? The writ had been signed by him, but the relequis had not seen his soldiers off. He sent in his secretary in his stead. The men were disillusioned by this. They would have liked to see their beloved thane once more, for most of the men would assuredly not be returning after this war. It was strange. The thane had not left his chambers for some time now. Only one man was allowed to see him, and none knew who that man was. He kept to the shadows and only spoke when absolutely necessary.

General Yhone Sulik, a gruff human male, would not allow his troops to remain dispirited. Along the long and treacherous road he did his best to keep their minds off the impending episode. Those who had the ability, played their music. Hunting parties brought back as much meat as could be salvaged and the men had hot meals. Somehow it wasn't enough. The general led through example though. Never once did he complain or show on his face that his fear. He went through his routines as if every man who was with him would survive. Yet his dreams were still haunted with images of death and destruction. No one chooses to be sent to war. But when words fail, arms must be risen to rid the world of evil.

The soldiers were adorned with the crest of Medonia across their armored chests. Their immaculate armor stood in stark contrast to their worn faces. They had seen much in the past few patterns. Defeat was already written in their eyes, yet they were determined to make it such a defeat to be worth noting in legends. On the horizon, they could make out the encampment that was to be their destination. "So many..." the general whispered. "How can we really be of service to them?" he thought. It the first moment he doubted their worth, and it likely wouldn't be the last. None brought a horse with them. The animals were too precious and expensive, they served their families better back home. "Onward!" the general called. They would reach the group before nightfall if they kept up their current pace.
~~~
General Sulik left his company on the edge of the encampment and made his way towards the tent that would be reserved for the man in charge. Daltina had a giant thane, of this he was sure. He still did not know what he looked like. Perhaps he would be wearing fairer armor with more adornments. If he was lucky, the thane would be easy to find.
The rugged man spotted a giant and made his way towards him. Whether he was the thane or not, he couldn't be sure. In a deep voice that skirted the line of hoarse he addressed the giant, "I bring with me 900 men from Medonia.
600 archers and 300 swordsmen.
This is all our lord thane could spare. Please know we will fight to the last man for our Daltinian brothers. Show me to where we would best be suited."
The man placed a hand on the hilt of his sword more as a resting place than anything. This would be the first darkening that his company would rest without fear. They would no longer have to worry whether they would make it to the encampment or not. They had arrived. Now, all they had to do was wait for the fighting to begin. Then it would be over; blissfully over.
OoC: I have only one PC in the Medonian Army at the moment and he is engaged elsewhere...
OOC: No problem.
IC:
The Thane looked at the warrior. The giant was dressed indeed in massive platemail. However, it impeded him little for it was made of elven steel. Upon the polished breastplate was an engraved dragon, fierce and firebreathing. The thane himself, had forged this piece. It took him months.
The giant responded to the messenger, who bore good news for the pensive Thane.
"Good. I am Nashkel An'gor, Thane of Daltina, and Chief of the forces stationed here." The giant offered his hand to the General.
"I am glad to know that Medonia is part of our quite unified province. I thank you for you're help. You're experienced men are a great addition to our ranks."
Arkahn Th'alashar is a benevolent Adventurer
General Arkahn Th'alashar had rode to the army's camp together with the Lord Thane. It had been quite a slow ride, as the Tigron had never rode a horse before and wasn't at ease with riding faster. It had been given to him that very brightening, probably because he was a General. The Tigron knew nothing of horses, not even what race his own was. He just knew it was named Dunbar, and that it looked big and strong. He still clutched the reins quite tightly with his studded leather gloves. His greaves, made out of fine steel, reflected the suns of Telath. Under them a part of his blue uniform could be seen, tucked into his plated leather boots in a loose way so his trousers hung down over boots a little bit. A steel round shield hung from the Generals back, a blue face with the emblem of Daltina on it in white. His scalemale was covered with a blue and white Hauberk and the markings of a General. From his side hung a sabre, sheated in a black leather scabbard, a memory from the Alyssan Guard. Arkahn looked around from under his general's hat, something he had to wear when on duty. His yellow eyes skimmed the tents of the soldiers, looking at the men around him. He didn't know which were under his command, but he would soon find out.
The army was bigger than he had expected it to be. At several times he heard men speaking to the Thane about numbers of troops, and to his calculations there were already some 25, 000 troops assembled. Only once had he seen a bigger force, when he had to deliver a message to the Imperial Army. That was an army so big one couldn't see it without having to move his head, even when flying a pegasus.
The Tigron had only taken the necessary equipment with him, his maps, writing equipment, parchment and a compass. All of his items were in his sadle bags. With a sigh of relief he dismounted his horse when the Thane did so as well. He waited for messengers, generals from different armies and the likes to do their story before adressing the Lord Thane himself. He quickly marched up to him, in a quick militaristic fasion as taught by the Alyssan Guard and offered the Thane a brisk salute. "Lord Thane, I am ready to inspect my troops and start my work. After I inspected them I would like to scout out the area, looking for possible points of strategic advantage." The General kept it short and quick, not wanting to waste any time on elaborations. The Thane would see his battle plans when they were done or if he asked for them.
