Rose My Medicine

Timestamp: Malice in Late-Winter.

Humming away thoughtfully as she eyed the various apparatus, the masses of potions and vials that contained Mister Jorel Knew What; there was only really one thing for it. Experimentation! With her attention initially focused upon securing the Castle, and the work already being conducted upon claiming the City – most of the rooms within Temperance had yet to be truly explored or catalogued.
Éclair’s Laboratory?
A Mixed Bag if ever there was one!
Half of the Laboratory remained untouched and collecting dust since the Takeover – Éclair not having the faintest clue how any of the Gadgeteering pieces worked, nor having any Lovers, Friends or Servants that knew either. It was something though that could always wait. A quarter of the Laboratory remained consigned to the work of Strudel and Archippos’ for when they needed to conduct their own business to meet Éclair’s whims.
The last?
All Hers!
Pacing down the length of open space between the two benches, Éclair had claimed three of the less open-minded amongst Cerys’ ‘Rehabilitated’ prisoners as Test Subjects. A, B, C! Shackled and bound to individual gurneys at wrists, ankles and throat; stripped bare and then momentarily Ignored. Each one being simply there to have various pre-created potions tested upon just to see what supplies she had and whether the Big Book of Alchemy also had the instructions on how to make more when stocks were drained. One Jorelite in a simple white tunic that had been left unlaced; the hem barely reaching the young woman's thighs. Most Importantly of all? She was wearing the thick black +1 to Intelligence Glasses! Priorities!
“Shall we begin?
Any Last Requests?”
Simple questions as Éclair flashed the trio a dimpled smile as she pirouetted to face them. On one bench, all the potions she’d been able to find. On the other, her Big Book + Ink & a Quill for additional notes to take.

Last requests?

The test subjects, B a Human and C an Elf. They decidedly said nothing, not sure how mentally damaged they were after Cery had done whatever she does to people down there. However, not enough for them to hold on to their defiance or hubris or idiocy . . . maybe a combo there of. Subject A was a petulant Orc, that for now was not gagged. His reply was more spicy "Shure, how abut Iz showz yu a good time prancess!" His lips smooching together with some of his yellow elongated teeth protruding. While making annoying kissing sounds that half way sounded like someone eating soup in just about the most annoying way possible. Vile, true, but it was Malice and himself a seriously bent Orc.

Of a less vulgar nature and more mysterious grouping, sat the potions and the big book of alchemic secrets. Upon observing pages of the rather large book, in it was a catalogue of sorts. On the left side of the pages were listed a number, just over to the right of the number was the material used and further right of that the results. Sometimes listed was the proper amount to administer and sometimes not. Evidently, the previous practitioner was a bit lax on their record keeping.

Page 1

Just had strange fluids on it, mainly dried blood, small amount of vomit and what looks like wine stains. Penned in the bottom right, was a comment that bore the penmanship of a 5th grader that simply said "go to page 2".

Page 2

At the heading of the page was marked "Hunger Potions" and that was it. Whoever wrote the book was reliably lax. Listed was a number for one of the entries, 1, made sense right? If the young Jorelite chose to look at the display of potions, then she would notice a number etched into each one. One of which had a white number 1 painted on the lid. The potion itself contained in a small but crude light green jar with a tin lid screwed on.

In further reading of potion 1, materials used were meat from a starving pig and a stock of stinging nettle. Brewed together with some water. The by product of which now sat sealed away in jar 1. Listed in results, was simply noted "Hunger Pains."

Eclair could try it out or flip to another page . . . Alchemist's prerogative.

Two Compliant, One… not so much. But as none were being groomed for Rehabilitation into Temperance-Malice given Éclair’s intentions this brightening, she cared little. Last Requests; a flash of a smile at the Orc’s own choice of words. That after all was precisely why the three were here – to entertain the Jorelite and stave off any risks of boredom that loomed.
”Here’s Hoping.”
Éclair agreed but sweetly; patting the Orc on the leg as she wandered around the Laboratory.
Play? Hardly. Had Archippos and Iroi-Uvak for that;
And for all that Éclair couldn’t remember the name of the Half-Orc; well, some things were likely best left Forgotten. Not when she’d had certain sing-song lyrics stuck in her head for Cycles after that Eve.
Lax Record Keeping?
Still better than Éclair’s own. She’d take what she could get.
Page 1: Ew. Go to…
Page 2: Hunger Potion, Hunger Pains…
Éclair shrugged; figuring that this still needed to be dealt with before transcribing the results in her own book (sans Vomit and Ew) for when it came time to rebuild anything she thought was Useful.
Subject B; Human– Hunger Potion.
Time to administer!
Calmly pinching the man’s nose and a mouthed “Open Wide” stated, awaiting the need to breathe or compliancy kicking in. Allowing a full third of the container to be used for the Experiment.

The Orc did not quite know what to say to that really. Holding his breath a moment in fear as she patted him on his leg. As she made her way towards the subjects, specifically subject B, the other subjects could not help but watch in growing dread. Each step the observed, eyes pinned on the small but quaint jar. The potion sloshed around a bit inside, the lid dragging against the glass in a dull grinding sound that echoed somewhat in the room. The Orc just stared and the elf sighing slightly in relief when she chose the human first.

Pinch

He was ready, he held his breath for an admirable duration, but gave in cracking his lips with his teeth gritting. Mumbling curses and slander through his teeth "Shhshshhshs, fesshing hore!" Kicks to the abdomen did the trick.

Gulp! Hhwarckk! Gulp!

It was quite a display, a decently well timed pouring as the initial opening of his mouth allowed the potion to go down the hatch with a giant gulp. An attempt to not drink was cut short by the potion going down the wrong tube and swallowing some air. As he gasped and struggled more went in. He coughed and spewed, some of the potion splattering on himself, Eclair's hair, face and clothing. It smelt funny, not quite rotting, but a porky musk with a hint of chopped weed.

Results.

At first, it was just the human catching his breath and him stopping his coughing. Some moments went by, his body starting to metabolize rather quickly and his body squirming slightly. His stomach began to contort a bit, his body desperately wanting to curl into the fetal position. He soon let out a heaving sound as if someone punched him in the gut.

He kept trying to grab his stomach, but his restraints kept him in place as he shook and pulled them. It only got worse, as he began to scream the sensation of starvation consuming his every thought and the pains seared into his guts causing strain induced cramping. Even though he was not actually starving, Eclair could hear his stomach growling and appeared his body truly mimicking intense starvation. The brew was solid and apt as there did not seem to be noticeable side effects. Given how consuming it was perhaps too much or just right?

As Eclair assessed, one thing was for certain anyone near by could hear the horrid screaming the man was generating. Begging for food when he could somehow be cognizant enough to ask and then quickly back to screaming. As for the other subjects, it got real . . . fast.

Éclair just sighed in agitation as some of the Potion was spat back up; removing the +1 to Intelligence Glasses before wiping them more or less clean against her tunic. “Not. I’m not a Dianite.” Came the rebuttal as if that one was a painfully obvious reality before seating the Glasses back upon the bridge of her nose. Would need a Bath; but well, such was life.
Far more Interested in the reaction;
Still, the Disapproving look was cast towards the Orc and Elf.
Wouldn’t be having any of that Nonsense again if either valued their remaining Intact.
Reaction!
Swishing about the Laboratory; Éclair was already working both to write down the Potion’s details freshly within her own book before adding the Notes in regards to the whole, Tummy Growling, and more importantly the welcome sound of screaming as if Mister Jorel himself had provided a pleasant little retort for the man having used Mean Words.
Subject B: Hunger Pains – Accurate Results!
But there was no need to give in to the man’s request for food;
Live or Die, the Human wasn’t a part of the Dollhouse and expending resources on a Non-Minion wasn’t worth her while.
“You really should have just Loved Me when I took over Malice y’know.”
A tsking sound underneath her breath as she left the Human to his misery. Instead moving on to the next page within the Big Book and looking for the corresponding Potion. Had Time.
”If you survive;
No hard feelings for refusing my Rule;
I’ll even let you go. Any of you spit on me again however and I’ll be very cranky.”

Splendid.

Accurate results indeed, 1/3 of the quaint jar a conservative amount to apply. The hunger pain potion jar was now 2/3's full.

. . . "i'll be very cranky."

She was not already? Subject A and C looked at each other in a brief moment of clarity as to their situation and a dose of desperation. They already had a scoop of Cery and now getting a scoop of Eclair. That was two scoops of Witchin Bran they did not anticipate in the slightest. Resist out of blind pride or take their chances and perhaps be let go? It did not take long for them to decide as they watched subject B heave in a deep gasp for air each time his stomach wrenched. If that was normal, then what was cranky?

They would comply.

For now, the potions and giant book stood a silent audience on their respective tables. A second hunger potion was listed underneath the first one, marked with the number 2.

2. Human Induced Cannibalism - Flesh from a Starving Pig and a crushed Molar from a Human. Amount, one vial. Results, Cannibalism taboo temporarily removed, but mental fortitude of individual can shorten duration.

This entry was entered by someone else a bit more . . . careful. The next four potions were a variant of the cannibalism potion. 3. for an Orc, 4. for an Cether, 5. for an elf and 6. for an Katta. Same ingredients, but a Molar from each race specifically. This completed this particular page of the big book.

If she reviewed the table of potions, then she would notice two vials were marked with a number 2. H for human on one and O for Orc on the other. The vials were noticeably smaller than the jar she just worked with. The vials themselves were made of a clear see through glass, the contents of which were a sappy red mixture.

Hunger? That Éclair could make use of in sowing Chaos – perhaps a little less than she’d used on Subject B, but enough that it was worthwhile keeping. It was the next page of instructions though that wrinkled the Jorelite’s nose in distaste.
Cannibalism.
It seemed to be the kind of thing that Her Love would Not Appreciate.
Mister Gentleman Jorel had been very, very Specific.
Followers, Not Corpses.
“Duroh? Him, this is Him.
Maybe Miss Sliucha’s Goddess…. Torture?”
Lauryllian accented mutterings,
Uncertain whether this was useful or not to enact.
Spiking the food supplies of the Church of the Faith would be Useful – it wasn’t as if Converts there were easy to obtain, and well, Subject B was tied down. There was only so much he could do to eat himself when push came to shove – tongue and lips seemed to be it…
Which would also be rather Gross.
Each of the vials Éclair moved off to the side;
Whether these ones worked or not was irrelevant, only that it would cost her in people to Experiment upon.
Save for later!
“If you Misbehave, it’s the Cannibalism Potion, kay?”
A gentle response before Éclair moved on to the next lot of pages; uncertain what she was looking for in particular – still content just to catalogue the existing stock.

The subjects took great notice as Eclair slid the cannibalism vials aside deciding to take a pass on their testing. It was to the vast relief of subjects A and C. Subject B, well he was still dry heaving and involuntarily shaking. The experimentation session was still rather young and already the experience for the subjects incredibly bi-polar.

Right then, as Eclair thumbed through some pages they came to rest on page 12. Same format as the other pages, the headers of the pages were not in alphabetical order just seemed to be at whatever whim the previous owners had. The header on this one simply said "Stronger Skin" sounding more like a goal than anything else. This page had a rough texture to it, and at closer inspection seemed to be smudged with reddish rust residue. Etched in with a charcoal like writing instrument was the number 36-40.

It seemed to be trial an error, as most of the entries were not legible looking more like frustration. Save for entry 40. Orc Iron Skin.

40. Orc Iron Skin - Add generous portions of Orc Skin and 1 solid Iron Ingot (non rusted). Use a large cauldron, brew especially hot, add water, stir constantly, do not let water levels go under half way mark or potion will be ruined, add water as needed. Ready when steam smells metallic. Results, some progress made . . .

The notes were cut short, as if interrupted. There was one potion on the table, it was a black mucus like substance clumped in a jar similar to the hunger potion. It had a white number 40 etched on it. However, none of the other numbers 36-39 could be found on the table.

Erratic record keeping.
It made things Difficult, even if Éclair understood just how likely such had come about. Namely, that she tended to write down everything after the Experimentation Batch rather than during and before; even if that too had turned out poorly for the Jorelite.
Some Potions were, it seemed;
Most definitely not for drinking based upon Miss Strange’s reactions.
At least, not for Éclair to be drinking.
Humming away; flicking through the pages until eventually the young woman hit ‘Orc Iron Skin’.
Didn’t Understand.
Orcs didn’t have Iron Skin.
Iron didn’t bend. That would be Awkward.
Iron was Heavy, so not very good at the whole, inevitable, Run, Run, Running Away!
Was it for Orcs?
Or was it supposed to make squishier people like Elves more resilient??
Only one way to find out!
Subject C!
“Open wide, or bad things ensue.”
Éclair, smiling brilliantly as she took the potion and awaited the Elf’s response.
Elf = Squishiest,
Most likely to have the biggest reaction…. Unless of course it was For Orcs. Oh well! One way to find out!

Subject C did not resist, he sighed as she made way towards him with a vial in hand. He swallowed hard, the veins in his neck throbbing as his heart pounded in fear. His mouth opened nervously as he drank up the vial of Orc Iron Skin and hoped his turn at potion roulette would turn out better than Subject B.

His stomach grumbled a bit, a little upset but not too bad. His skin was a bit sweaty, but that was more his anxiety setting in than the potion. No tense pain or growing symptoms, well, until Subject C passed an amazing amount of gas. There seemed to be a type of reaction, but it was fizzling out into a botched gas via his digestive track. Perhaps the potion was as specific as vaguely mentioned or just did not work. Otherwise, the room began to fill up with a metallic scented gassy order, and subject C's blood stream was definitely not iron deficient.

Alas, there was no more Orc Iron Skin potions, but there lied the book with more pages in it.

Retching coughs escaped the Jorelite as she hastily backed the Aeternia away from Subject C as the Orc Iron Skin Potion brought about some rather pungent side effects. Whatever the Potion was supposed to do, the results rather seemed to fall closer towards Mishap than anything of use.
Smelled worse than Iori-Ex and his means of escaping from the Imperium.
That had been a Bad Brightening, Team Evil’s Helping of the Arctic-Lady’s bid as Empress had been… malodorous.
”The old owners were Weird…
Words muttered to herself as she eyed the other potions warily.
Hunger Potions and This? Was pretty sure that even by Aeternian standards, the old rulers of Malice had been a few slices short of a loaf. Though, they did seem to be the kind of things that Iori-Ex would engage in which was troubling. Not when the fallen Priest had proven quite creative indeed when it came to Matters Magical.
Not much else for it though;
This time Éclair was just going to skim through a few pages – looking more for the intended potions before treating them in such a methodical manner!

It was foul really, and also educational on just how much gaseous materials a living being could make. Perhaps the alchemic process should come with warning labels. In any case! As Éclair thumbed through the pages she would eventually notice an entry about medicine. Upon further inspection, etched in after the initial entry was the word "Battle" that sagged at an angle. Eventually Éclair could make out that they meant "Battle Medicine" and was quite straightforward.

73. Battle Medicine: Add Sap from a Pine Tree and Goo from the pointy plants. Stir repeatedly while cooking, allow to boil only momentarily, add water (the more pure and natural the water the better) and then quickly poor into cool pots. Results: Salve for healing and stops bleeding from open wounds fairly quickly.

Danger: Salve is flammable and don't let it boil too long during preparation or else.

A druid or green thumb would know the pointy plants to be similar to an Aloe Vera plant.

There was a glass jar that was about the size of a mason jar and 2/3's full. The salve definitely was a paste like material which was light brownish yellow in texture. On the lid was etched a 73.

This was useful!
Éclair was all too experienced in the problematic side effects of Team Evil’s expeditions.
Necromancy could no longer Heal via Life Transfer.
This was going to be a Problem given her role in keeping her Friends Safe & Alive.
Admittedly… she could just drag their corpses back from the Dead;
Retaining their Souls in gems wasn’t that difficult… just, just, Éclair didn’t think Miss Noe would appreciate it very much. No, probably not.
Bonus;
If it worked properly,
Wouldn’t be quite as Terrible when Miss Noe stabbed her.
Again.
No Race component?
Even better!
Which left Éclair rummaging through the Laboratory in search of the necessary ingredients, and well, because this one required injuries? Taking a moment to take one of the Sharp & Pointy Knives strewn about to make sure that it was more or less clean. Three Test Subjects, Three Injuries were going to be required. Pine though and Spiky Plants… gardening? Not Éclair’s forte! What looked spiky??

Eclair would fine the pine sap easy enough, well mainly because it smelt like fresh pine in the midst of a not so nice place. It was clumped together in crude blocks in a open bowl, and would seem pouring sap was not exactly workable as pine just was sticky. There were three clumps in all, each the size of a brick, so that would be about 3 bricks of pine sap, yumers.

Pointy plants was rather vague, the original alchemist did not know either. However, as Eclair rummaged through, she would notice a few plants and all were not pointy save just one. It was a stash of spiky stems that oozed a clear substance. In all, there was a small picnic basket full of them.

Beneath one of the tables laid a cauldron if she so desired to use it or had one of her own of course. Certainly her staff, could fetch the more remedial items for her, if she so chose. Being the boss lady came with perks.

Pine Sap. Didn’t know how much to add; and as the instructions didn’t seem to care - Éclair settled upon dumping one of the clumps (after much shaking of her hand when the sticky substance wouldn’t come off! Bad!).
Pointy Plants took time.
Only knew of one kind of pointy plant, and that one was the No-Touchy plant.
Definitely didn’t need any of that nonsense, best safe than itchy and covered in an annoying rash!
Care as such was taken in extracting goo;
Uncertain as ever how much to add, and so settled upon a handful (though, definitely not picking up with her hands!) and trying to goo it with mortar and pestle first.
Humming away;
Ignoring the three Test Subjects as she worked;
Mixing it all together before adding water (doubted clean given Malice-Temperance, but such was life!) before fire and stir-stir-stir! Time to bring it to boil!
