[Jaedah's Mirror] Of Time and Space...(Xyltha)

OOC: Continued from the original Jaedah's Mirror thread, here.

As Xyltha touched the smooth surface, a great many things happened…all at once.

After seeming to lose consciousness for a brief moment, he opened his eyes, thinking that he would be flat on his back…on the ground. Strangely enough, that wasn’t the case. He was clearly standing on his feet in the middle of what appeared to be a church of some sort. There seemed to be no one around…or so he thought, until a voice spoke behind him.

“Greetings Xyltha.”

Upon turning, he would see a very young woman…perhaps 16 or 17 ordinations old. She was young, yes..but there was wisdom fall beyond her age within her gaze. Dark hair framed a beautiful face as she strode towards him.

“Welcome to the Mirror. My name is Arisa. “

She left it at that, counting on him to ask enough questions to get the conversation going.

The mystery of the Mirror had begun to reveal itself unto the elfling. Even as Xyltha opened his eyes, he knew something had changed. What he didn't expect, was that he'd be in some different location altogether. At the sound of the greetings, Xyltha whipped around to meet the young woman. Was this a dream? Or was this a ghostly visitation in another plane of existence altogether. He wasn't sure, but he could find out.

"Serale Arisa. I am sorry to have intruded upon you. I was exploring the Mirror in Jaedaxia, when I woke to find myself here. Can you tell me where I am?"

Well, apart from being in a church and all. Where was this church was more to the point, but he had already spoken, and didn't wish to clarify, lest he sound quite nerdy to the point of annoyance.

The vision of beauty….Arisa, as she had called herself, simply smiled at him, helping him to his feet gently.

“Tis no intrusion, good elf. It was the Mirror that brought me here to see you.”

His location…ahhh, that was another matter entirely.

“ You are in La Cathédrale de la Carmelya..or as you would know it better as, Cathedral of Carmelya. I’ve always found this place to be…calming. Perhaps we could just sit and talk for a few minutes. I can explain a little bit about the Mirror if that would be of some help to you?”

Lowering herself onto one of the benches nearby, she waited to see if he followed suit before continuing.

“Jaedah’s Mirror is essentially something that helps people work through their inner-most conflicts or problems. -How- is very subjective and depends on the person…but at the heart of it, the mirror really wants to help. Jaedaxia is a mysterious, wonderful place…filled with people that have this amazing spirit. The Mirror channels that to a certain degree. Sometimes people know what it is they need help with...sometimes not. If you aren’t aware of any inner conflicts you have, its okay. Sometimes people just need to talk…”

The girl was nice and very amiable, which was a good thing as he had -no- idea what he had just wandered into.

Xyltha kept mute, his mind still going over what the little girl had just told him. He took a seat beside her, feeling his legs too wobbly to support his weight while his mind continued digesting the information.

"So, Jaedah's Mirror, it helps solve inner-conflicts? Ah... I see..."

His voice trailed off, not knowing what else to say. He had no immediate inner-conflicts per se. As his mind wandered off into the distant vaults of his memories, he recalled vague rumblings of disturbed memories, of a violent childhood event and angst.

"Well, I .. Umm..."
He paused. He wanted to relay his inner-conflicts of the past, yet was uncomfortable doing so. This was a secret history of long ago that he had suppressed, and never thought he would be revisiting this brightening.

Gazing at the gentle youthful face of his spiritual advisor, however, he could only feel peace and trust. Taking a deep breathe, he started.

"I... When I was a child, I lived in Silrosia. Then, I .. ummm...was kicked out of home. For reasons I am unaware of, I was tossed out of the home I lived for Ordinations. And just before I was tossed out, my sister went missing. I've been looking for her since..."

He stopped. His voice was choked with emotions, and he could go no further. He fought down the well of emotions that threatened to explode and engulf him.

Well, his advisor wasn’t -that- little…at least for humans. Perhaps in the elf’s eyes she was …but that was a different story….and one best told another day.

As he began to tell his story, she paid close attention, laying her hand over his as he began having trouble speaking.

“ I’m so sorry. I know something of being tossed out of one’s home. It is a horrible thing for a child to endure. The uncertainty…the inability to trust….and your sister…do you have any notion where she might be?”

It was strange. The Mirror was supposed to be a place of answers and yet, Arisa seemed to have more questions then anything. It could be confusing for one that wasn’t aware of how the Mirror functioned but yet, he felt nothing malicious in her or her questions. Quite the opposite…as he told his story, he felt his insides ease up a bit…as if some of the weight upon his shoulders was being lifted.

Xyltha sobbed, gentle droplets of tears forming at the edge of his eyes and streaming down to caress his cheeks. His throat felt bitter, and choked with emotions long suppressed. This was the first time someone cared - cared enough to ask him about his past, filled with his share of sorrows and agonies. Here, in Carmelya's church alone with an impossibly-young-looking girl, the last barriers to his soul melted away.

"My sister, Maewar...No, I don't ... I haven't seen her - spoken to her in a long time. I don't know if she... if she's alive still. She always remembers to send a message every Ordination, before she left."

He paused, taking in a ragged deep breath. He was stuttering badly. The girl probably didn't understand what he was trying to say.

"She loved to travel. Sometimes she'll be away for Patterns at a time, but always she keeps in regular contact with me. But then, a few Patterns ago, the messages stopped arriving... Last I heard of her, she was in Port Alyxandrya. But - but that was a while back..."

Arisa’s eyes were soft upon the elf, not knowing what else to do other then reach out and wrap him softly in a gentle, supportive embrace. His story was a sad one..but not one that necessarily had a bad ending.

“ There are many reasons why she could have fallen out of contact with you. Perhaps she didn’t know where to find you. Messages go astray. Don’t immediately assume the worst until you are given a reason to do so. “

The young woman’s mind was filled with emotions from her own past..some sharply similar…but one thing she had never given up on was hope.

Reasons? He had plenty of reasons to think the worst! Not least was the reaction from his estranged Sylrosian family, who cast him out when it became apparent that Maewar no longer kept in contact. Only under her auspices did they keep him on, though what dark family secrets were hidden still remained a mystery.

Yet, there was still hope. This mysterious girl - she did have some semblance of logic in her reassurances. Though Maewar was for all intents and purposes lost to him, it remained to be seen whether or not she was alive.

"You are right... I guess, I worry about her too much, that I assumed the worst. We were very close, and I can't believe she would abandon me like this."

The little girl always had something to say…no matter the subject. The elf, however, didn’t seem to get the point.

“How do you know she abandoned you? If you were as close as you say, why would she do that? Your family sounds very strange, indeed. If it were me, I’d be more worried about what happened to her to keep her from having contact with you instead of thinking she abandoned you. A much healthier way of looking at it. If you wallow in depression thinking that she left you, it gives you no desire to find the truth.”

Shrugging her small shoulder, she danced along the path ahead of him, almost as if biding her time while waiting for a response from him.

The elf was once more wrapped up in his thoughts. The girl's words touched him - deeply. Yes, she was right. He realised suddenly that all this while, he had been self-centred. Thinking about himself, not caring for what manner of danger that might possible be visited upon his sister. Like a spoilt brat that he always was. Besides, even though his aloof family in Syl'Rosia were always cold towards him, his sister never was. Even if they threw him out, his sister would never do that.

He trudged along the path, following the dancing girl. No, the girl was right. Something dire must have happened to his sister - and it seemed that he was the only one who cared to do anything about that. He would find her, he must find her!

"I ... I think I understand. I was lost in my despair, having lost all that mattered to me most. But now, I know what I must do. I must find out what happened to my sister. She's waiting for me!"
