Treant was wondering the streets of Jaedaxia, brightenings later after the succesful test of his invention. He was so excited to have his invention work. Now he needed to make sure the people of Jaedaxia knew his work and he needed his fame to start to be known. So instead of a traditional walk or wonder through the streets the gnome had on his Treants wonderful magical spider boots. He was jumping through the streets of Jaedaxi on his way back to the gadgeteering school. As he neared the school he latched his boots in mid air. *Thump*
Treant landed hard on the ground. "I got to find a better way of landing" Treant thought rubbing his butt. He had aquired many bruises on his rear from landing on his butt and not his legs. Even though he had mastered the art of jumping with his boots he needed something more. Treants head was full of ideas and he was ready to put his nose back in the books and begin another invention.

Treant walked into the school now that his boots were latched and he could walk normal.
He waived to the clerk at the desk and continued up the stairs to his workroom. He liked being able to use the school and The Shop of Wonderous things, between the two he could find what he needed and he had good advisors as well. He hadnt seen litchen in days and didnt know what he had been up to. Last Treant saw Litchen was working on his own broken invention.
Treant entered his workroom taking off his boots, he wanted to be free and comfortable as he started gadgetizing. He walked over to the shelf like he had before and pulled out the Mechanical Lore. He flipped to the spring section about how energy worked with recoil. He then flipped to the widget and gadget section. He looked at the different shapes of widgets and gadgets. Treant had an idea but he wasnt sure yet.
In the book Treant studied the different shapes of widgets. He learned that he could modify the pieces of widgets and gadgets when he used the gadgets piece as a latch and release.
He stuided the shape of the gear and all the mixtures of widget and gadget pieces.

Just as Trean finished studying the door flung open and Litchen came walking in.
"Ay Treant how are you!" the gnome said in his thick jaedaxian accent.
"Fine, very fine! I am actually getting ready to start another idea after the boots. They were such a success!"Treant said clapping his hands. "I was thinking about an idea called Treants wonderful magical flying hawlk claw"Treant said flipping the pages of the book
"Vhat is dat?"Litchen asked curious
"Vell I vas thinking of a grapiling hook that would shoot out from a belt buckle. I dink dat I can use garrote wire as a cord and attach a miniture grapiling hook, dat way I can activate it while in the air , such as when using my boots, and swing to saftey."treant said proudly his idea well thought out.
"Very good idea, it might be the next big trend in Jaedaxia, I heard some talk about your boots, dont forget to make a childrens version of it to sell."Litchen said "Vell I must get back to my vork,"litchen said walking out of the room leaving treant with his gadgeteering.
Treant continued to flip through the book of mechancial lore studying the different gadgets and widgets. He was trying to think of how it would be energized and how it would be stored. Treant paced the room. He liked springs, it was such an easy energy method and at this level it was the perfect way to harness energy. But now he had to provide two sets of energy for this invention, a release and a recoil.

Treant thought about how a normal grapiling hook worked, you threw it into an object and it latched around securing your climb. Treant started to think how a crossbow and a bow worked. It worked under tension. The string was tightened and then released sendning an arrow at high speeds. Treant pondered more and more, as was the pattern of true gadgeteers.
Treant stoped and started thinking about how crossbow bolts worked. "Hmmmm, I wonder if I can get a bolt to have a point that opens like a grapiling hook..."treant said tapping his foot on the ground.
A crossbow bolt might work but it would have to be dart sized, and a small dart at that. It would be able to stick into things, but could it penetrate stone?
"No, that wont work...."treant said kicking the ground in defeat. "I need something to make it stick..."Treant said pouting....."Mighty glue!"Treant said jumping. He could have the gadget drip mighty glue onto the bolt before deploying and "Voala!"treant said grabing some paper.
"But a bolt....a bolt is to big, its got to be smaller.....ack....the device is going to be enormous..."Treant said sitting down in defeat again. "Ok spring loaded , circular pulley to recoil the rope or vhatever I vant to use to climb."treant said pacing again.
"AURGGG!"Treant said throwing a chair across the room.
"I got it!" Treant said running to the paper. "Ok spring will be recoiled in the compartment, I can them get a dart the size of the recoil and it can stay house in the middle of the spring, that way when the spring is released the dartlike object vill be at maxiumum speed!"Treant said writing down furiously. "Dhen, I can use a small glass vile to hold the mighty glue!"Treant said jumping up again.
Treant was so excited he ran to the glass house leaving the school.

When Treant returned he came back with a couple tiny viles about the size of an inch in diameter. (A quarter). He ran to the supply room he was onced introduced to and searched for the container of mighty glue. "Careful!"Treant said taking the vile down and walking slowly back into the room. Treant pulled the cork out of the container and slowly filled the smal viles.
Once Treant filled the 2 dozen viles he corked each one with a tiny piece of cork and put the mighty glue back in the supply closet.
Treant pulled out a stylus and began drawing the files and writing a brief description of the use for it as well as what was filled inside the vile. Treant began drawing the spring for the energy. Treant put down the stylus and paced again. "Ok, ve have da idea for de attachment but vhat can I use as a cord...it has to be thin, strong, and something that vont tangle..."treant said unbelting his sword and lying it on the table. He looked at the sword, how sharp it was, hed only used it once and he didnt even kill anything with it. Treants memory rewound itself through his journies. After the brief flashback Treants eye caught a glimps of something tucked inside his belt......his garrote.
"Dats it!"Treant said rushing back out of the room. The little gnome ran down the stairs and back to the blacksmith Litchen had introduced him to. Treant nodded to the blacksmith and went into the back of the room. "Velding..de garrotes together would make a strong thin cord."he said outloud.

"I need ...8 inches divided by 30 feet is......alot"treant said doing the math in his head. "That is 45 garrotes...."treant thought.
He ran out front to speak to the blacksmith..."225 crowns!"treant said yelling. "Yes i know vhat 5 x 45 is!"the gnome yelled at the smith. "Well at least I get the mishammered darts for free!" "Here take ye crowns...its called stealing ye know!"treant said walking back into the room with a book of cords. All he had to do now was melt the ends together. It wouldnt be hard just time consuming.
Two candlemarks later treant had a 30 foot piece of garrot wrapped neatly around a spool. He left the blacksmith mumbiling about stealing from locals and left to head back to the school.
The gnome frusterated but pleased with the way of his invention climbed the stairs back into the room carrying the metal cord.
Treant dropped the cord on the table and began drawing the cord and wrote beifly about it and the size of it. He wrote down 15 foot metal cord next to the drawing. He would cut the cord later. Treant walked into the supply room and pulled out various widgets and gadgets. He looked at the different pieces and then pulled out two gear shaped gadgets. He placed the two in front of each other and then found widgets that would match the shape to make a small casing, or circular box. This was a simple design the gnome liked the circular look rther then the box look, besides this would later become a blet buckle, so style was a nesesity.

Treant started to draw the casing out on the paper. He drew out the circular casing showing all sides of the object. he then drew a small sliding door in the front of the belt which would later become the opening of how the object would shoot out. The case was about 4 inches in diameter and inch thick. This would allow enough room to attach the spring and a coil system for the cord. Treant started to draw out the design.
"Ah,simple enough" the gnome said putting down the stylus. He thought out loud:
"The vay dis idea works......a casing is built to house the inner parts of the device. On the outside a sliding door which is opened by springs on the face of the casing holds the recoiled spring , in the casing in place. IN the casing is a simple spring with a modified dart placed in the middle of the spring. Behind the spring is a small spool like object which has the cord wrapped around it. The cord is connected to the dart. Upon release of the sliding door the spring is released sending the dart forward through the vile of mghty glue sending the dart with its cord flying toward the desired object." Treant finished.
Now he woul have to create a reset device to rewind the cord and replace the dart tip. A simple crank might due, the gnome thought. "Oh simple!"treant exclaimed running back to the paper.
"The spool will have an outside knob on both sides of the casing that will enable the user to manually rewind the cord"treant said happily. "This will also allow the user to cut the cord in an emergency and replace it later."treant drew out.

Treant put down his stylus and began building the various parts that were left. He connected the casing together through interlocking, just like he learned previously. He began using the saw to cut a piece of "spool" for the cord to wrap around.
Candlemarks went by and the gnome slowly began to piece together his belt buckle. Cutting the darts to fit the casing was teidous but before long Treant had many darts cut to the size needed. He created the sliding door mechanism and tested the springs on the outside making sure it opened upon command. By pressing down on the spring loaded door hinges it released the door in a split second. Treant looked pleased.
Dusk had fallen and treant had just completed the invention. He would have to wait till daybreak to test the object. This test would be scary, so much in the object and it was getting him excited. The gnome closed up shop for the night and grabbed the invention. He would harness it to his belt that night before testing it in the brightening.
That night Treant didnt sleep at all with all the excitement ready to burst. He ran as soon as the suns rose to the school. He wrapped the belt around his waist and walked over to an open area. Slowly Treant sat down leaning back, arching his waist to make sure the door was facing the schools high wall. He wanted to make sure the item was facing up and out so it could hit the wall. Treant took a breath and hit the sliding door release..........

The Suns were high that brightening, though it was naturally overcast. The result was an awkward dance between shine and cloud cover, making it feel more cold than usual. Occasionally, rays of Suns light would break through the cover, warming Jaedaxia once again. It was hinting at Spring ... but only after the long Wintery months ahead.
Not that the gnome cared. He was too excited to try out his newest investion -- the partner for his almost-too-dangerous Spider Boots. But who cared? They gave anyone who could fit into the modified boots quite a giant leap indeed. It was still the landing that needed work. And, perhaps, his newest invention would do the trick ... if its aim was true, and if the mighty glue worked its wonders as promised.
There was a quick click when Treant hit the release switch -- which was followed indefinately by a hissing sound as the spring released the cord and dart straight into the air. Treant felt a moment's glee as he watched the dart and wire spinning wildly into the air. Then, thunk, it hit the opposite wall from where the gnome stood, effectively gluing itself to the rough surface with Treant in tow.

Treants eyes grew in excitment hearing the noise of the hissing dart. "Agh! Agh! It works, It works!"the gnome jumped up and down attached to the cord. Treant walked closer to the wall, the true test would come.....
He pulled back on the dart seeing if it truly was secure. If it appeared secure he would begin to try and climb the wall, one foot at a time. And just in case his boots were ready to save him.

Treant tugged, and the dart stayed. It may have been good, however, to wait a few counts for the mighty glue to really stick. But then, it was always up to the inventor; and in this case, the inventor was a gnome with a head for fun times and enough wits to invent the needed equipment for said fun times.
As Treant pulled on the thin wire, he soon discovered that wire plus hands was not a very comfortable experience. Not only was the wire beginning to bite into his skin, but it was getting tiring. Fortunately, however, Treant used a good set of wire which was strong ... but probably not that strong. It was probably safe to keep the load on the other side of the dart as little as possible, in addition to his own weight.
Before long, Treant would get to the top where his dart was stuck quite permenantly on the wall where it struck. The gadgeteer was having the time of his life, a great sense of accomplishment, and a nagging feeling to purchase a good set of leather gloves the next time he wanted to try out his new invention!

Treant reached the top of the roof. "It works! It works! It works!" the little gnome was jumping up and down, and it was a good thing his boots were still locked otherwise he might have killed himself in excitement from the landing.
Treant removed the wire from the dart and wound up the spool. He needed to reload the belt..."I need some gloves."he said rubbing his hands.
As treant looked over the city the thought then entered his head....."How do I get down now?" He chuckled and fell on the ground of the building laughing with his feet kicking like any good natured gnome.
