Quarterstaff Training (ARRAETH AND SABAR ONLY)
Winter, Julosy-thingy. Woo-ooh
A cold wind bit through the air of the small glen in which Arraeth were to be instructed in the use of staves. Within the glen a tall thick-limbed man leaned against a leafless oak tree.
As his pupil entered the clearing, he shifted position, this time resting part of his wieght upon the stout quarterstaff in his hands.
"Good morning," he exclaimed cheerfully. "It seems that you have been chosen to be my victim. My name's Vick and I'll be beatin' the tar outa you. First, I'd like to know the name of the person I'm educatin, if you don't mind?"

Carrying his Jo Staff on his back, the sea-elf appearsat the tree with good speed. He has been looking quite forward to extended training for some time now and this brightening, he was to get it. "Serrale," he says to the man leaning against the oak tree..."I suppose 'victim' is about rrright." Arraeth chuckles at the idea and reaches on his back for his Jo Staff while telling his new instructor what his name is..."I am Arraeth, and I have studied staff before. I have achieved basic level and I'm rrready to starrt interrmediate."
(OOC: Eriond, I'm pretty sure that Sabar is not training in staff. Also, my PC already has basic Jo staff...and speaking of which, this should be for Jo Staff which is about 4'2" long. Ok?)

The instructor smiled at the clouds formed in the air by his breath. "Lovely weather for staff work isn't it?" He asked as shifted his wieght and lifted his staff. "Hell on the knuckles though, eh?"
"I can see y'at least know the proper way to 'old it," he stated, eyeing Arraeth thoughtfully. "You talk funny, elf... Where're you from?"
Without warning, Vick flicked one end of his staff forward almost contemptuously as if to strike for Arraeth's kidneys.
(OOC: Yah, Sabar PMed me. I almost told he was gettin' staff training and he'd better darn well take it. But my good sense fortunately triumphed over my crotchetiness. And he'll train you in staff work. The city doesn't have any Jo Staff specialists. Don't worry, he's got a high enough level in the quarterstaff to give you intermediate Jo staff.)

Arraeth smiles as he looks up to the clouds also. For a moment, he thinks about the wilderness and where he has come from, for the instructor asks exaclty that...and Arraeth isn't quite sure. "I speak with a katta accent sirrr. I speak katta and was rraised by Pantherrri sirr." He smiles a quaint grin and waits for instruction. It's just then that the instructor moves to strike Arraeth. Having some training already, Arraeth attempts to quickly react with a block. He quickly swings his stick downward and counter-clockwise to deflect the shot.
(OOC: Okay...good deal, glad you got over yourself Sounds good.)

Vick's strike towards Arraeth failed, but more due to the fact that he had underestimated Arraeth, or given him a chance to see how good he already was. "I see you possess some skill in this weapon already, it'll make the training easier" With that, Vick turned around and took a few steps away from Arraeth. There, he stopped and waited for a short while, breathing in the cold morning air. He turned around once more, facing Arraeth. The wind could hardly whip them, it wasn't strong enough, but it was possible for the cold to bite them. Even the cold hadn't been enough to call down rain and snow, so the ground was just as dry as a summer's day, although it was a bit frosty in some parts.
"The most important thing to learn is the stances. There are three different kinds for a beginner, I shall teach you two, the third can only be taught by oneself. The first one is the defensive stance and the second, an aggresive one. Thirdly, we have the freelance one, important only to confuse the enemy and to aid you in fighting in your own style, so that no one can read your mind as easily as a mystic. Let us begin with the defensive stance"
Vick placed his left foot in front, revealing that he was mainly right handed, though that was of little concern, since he was using a staff. He stretched out his leg and kept the feet one or two steps apart, somewhere in between at least. His right leg was slightly bent and in his case, his right foot was perpendicular to his left, which was facing the same way as he was looking with his eyes. He kept both arms bent, holding the jo-staff one hand above one end with his right hand and half-an-arm further up with his left. His right hand was close to his waist and his left was in front of his chest.
"This is how I prefer to take this stance, since it is easier to lower the staff than to raise it. I keep it pointing upwards, which allows me to quickly and surely counter any blows coming towards me, from the sides, up or below. My feet are placed in a way, which allows me to keep my balance and move forward and most importantly, backwards, without hesitation, you yourself should seek a position with your feet that gives you the most balance and comfort, combined with the ease of moving backwards. Remember, this is a defensive stance, we want to protect ourselves and be able to either flee or take the aggressive stance without too much trouble, otherwise the enemy will have us pinned in no time... now, you try."

Arraeth nods and moves to the same stance, putting his left leg out in front instead. It shows him to be left handed, which comes in quite handly in some combative situations, but not all. When an enemy thinks they are catching him on his bad side, they get quite the surprise. Anyhow, he bands his left leg slighty, readying the Jo-staff much the same way his new teacher, raising the end up as to counter any attempt at his body.
"Alrright then sirrr, shall we begin?" he asks. He says that neither in a condenscending, nor cocky tone. He asks it truthfully. He is an eager elf, but cautious in his actions.

"First, let's switch to aggressive stances" Vick didn't want to begin until he at least had made sure his student knew the basics, although all the jabs, thrusts, swings and deflects were going to be taught while they fought. Switching was a very easy thing for Vick to do, so easy Arraeth could probably do the same without any trouble. All the trainer did was move his right foot in front and then leave it pointing forwards, while his left foot was turned on the ground, to become perpendicular to the forward foot. His right leg was bent, in order to lean more forward, which did so that the left leg had to be almost straight, though it wasn't entirely. "Alright, if you can take that stance without any trouble, then we can begin our little friendly fight. Remember, stretching your leg entirely can be harmful, either because you may stretch it too much or you can lose your balance".
When Arraeth had finally taken the aggressive stance, which probably didn't take long. Vick pulled his right foot back and entered the defensive stance, making sure that his staff was ready to meet Arraeth's. "Come on, let's see what you already know" It was Vick taunting him, Arraeth knew he would have to attack, but that didn't necessarily mean that he had to give in to the taunting. There was enough room for both of them to move around without worrying, though if they could force either to the edge they'd almost surely win. Even Vick would hardly be able to withstand a pressing attack if he couldn't dodge it, should his block fail.
