The Martial Acadamy (Millitary)

Recently founded, the academy was the focal point for recruiting and training more members into the Coldmoon Guards. Housed near the Guards barracks, the academy is run by Commander Ian Markson, the former overall commander of the garrison here. While the Guards were nominally under the Prefect and Thane as a civil defense force, its day to day operations were run by the Commander. The academy building is stark, built completely of dark stone. The building itself is surrounded by weapons practice fields, where potential guardsmen train their melee skills. Another field is open for horseborn combat, where certain recruits are trained to fight from horseback with lances and swords. Yet other fields are reserved for unit marching and formation practice. Several buildings are scattered around the compound, which is itself surrounded by a stone wall. Barracks buildings, stables and armouries are all in clear view. Of course, not everyone here came to enlist, and the academy offered weapons training as well, at a price.

Entering the academy proper, passing over the parade square, you see a number of classrooms down the hallway behind the main reception area, and uniformed cadets walking around in small knots, shuffling from class to class as they learn tactics and battlefield skills. The decor inside is just as stark and plain as the outside is, the walls being mostly unadorned besides the portraits of the current Thane, Governer and Guard Commander. There are two uniformed and armoured guardsmen standing at attention, apparently on guard detail, with the sigil of the Coldmoon Guards embossed on their chainmail. Your attention is called back to the reception desk as the duty officer, a lieutenent by his rank bars, looks up at you. "Serale, is there anything I can do to help you?" he asks. There is a list of training costs for those who just wish the training. Outside, you can hear the call of a bugle, and the muted sounds of men's boots clattering on the stone parade ground as they rush to assembly.

Medea had initially entered the Academy believing that she would need to improve some of her combat skills in order to go some way to impressing possible future employers. However, on entering the Academy proper the idea crossed her mind, "Why not get trained up by the Academy by enlisting ?" She could earn a wage, become adequately trained in some martial skills but most importantly, get better acquainted with lots of the local males in uniform !
However, she decided that now was not the time to start flirting, and flashing her smile, at the young Lieutenant. We wouldn't want to go embarrising him in front of the troops now would we ?
She strode forcefully up the the officer's desk and enquired, "Serale, good sir. May I enquire about employment within the Coldmoon Guards ? What may be your minimum period of enlistment ? Whilst I cannot offer any great proficiency in any of the martial skills I am a keen and fast learner and you undoubtably know of the natural elven ability with a bow. That and my natural night vision should make me a worthy asset."
"Oh, and out of morbid curiosity, what social skills are you offering to teach at the Academy ? I'm intrigued !"
She silently hoped that an opportunity would exist for her but dreaded being drafted into the cavalry.

OOC: Hello Lorian, I believe you were the storyteller in charge of my encounter. I was waylaid abit by this whole server business, but I'm hoping you recieved my reply post to your last response? It was a lengthy reply to your response, but if not I'll repost. To refresh, just incase, Felyn'dira arrived and requested acceptance in the New Coldmoon Guard (for both a livilyhood and free tuition), but you told her that, unfortunately, there was no training suitable to her stauture accept Bow training. You also added that you would speak to your commander in regards to placement amongst an unformed 'aerial division' of New Coldmoon. You inquired, and also responded that you would train her in the bow. She was instructed to "come back the next day" so I did a post of her returning, then the server went down.

IC: "The enlistment lasts for the period you are trained and then an additional two years mamm. During that time you'll move up in the ranks of the guard and have the choice to continue as an officer or other service position or retier with partial benefits. Of course training is free with enlistment which is most peoples reson for joining, but you should be aware that for your period as a cadet there is no regular sallary, not untill you graduate to a working guard do you make money."

Medea thought through what the officer had said. Two years was but a blink of an eye to likes of an elf like herself. The decision took little time.
"Sir, I would be honoured to serve within the likes of the Guards if you would have me. Could I but confirm that you will supply uniforms, weapons and meals ? I would be glad to take up lodgings within the Academy if it is required, otherwise, I have just recently taken possession of my family property within the city and would gladly dwell there. If you would have me then please instruct me as to when you would wish me to report and into which arm or service you wish to draft me ?"
Medea waited nervously for the Lieutenant's reply.

"Not of suitable stature?!" She blanched, and turned a frown at the lieutenants response to her offer of commitment. "...you mean to tell me there is no place for one of my --." her words were cut short as he offered a resolution. "Ah yes," she responded politely, her poise returning. "...the bow was what I had in mind, however it's unfortunate you don't see me fit to meet the standard for swordplay." The consolation was another more unique and peculiar alternative, seemingly drummed up from nowhere. "An aerial unit?" her bright eyes marveled upon the lieutenant, yet there was nothing appealing about him to the elf, she stared through him, entertaining a vision of her cutting through the skies on back of some aerial manifestation. Would it be a creature, or contraption, she wondered; a great eagle, griffin, roc, or perhaps a ballon. The ballon didn't sound half as enticing as the previous. "It wouldn't take me long to have an answer--." she touched a fingertip to her lip than glanced back for the door when he bid her return the next day. "Yes, please counsel with your commander, I would commit myself to an aerial division; and I agree, it would be the envy of New Coldmoons forces." Her eyes mirrored his expression, glossing over into a dream state. "Yes, tomorrow then." Her steps skirtted across the floors, and the elf left as quietly as she'd arrived.

NEXT DAY

She caught her breath at the first shafts of sunlight, forever, enjoying the moments when the horizon is crowned by a fine silver rim. A bend in the road neared, and she curbed her stride and started down the street for that ominous and easily recognizeable bastion fashioned of black material. Her eyes shot up the barrack walls. Approaching the gate, she spoke her peace to the guards than started across the training fields. Her eyes flicked left and right, stilled, even when a thundering crescendo of riders blew by, or a clash of blades rang against one another. She studied the companies of guardsmen until she reached the lieutenants office, giving a blink, she returned to the foggy haze of reality and slipped inside. "As promised..." she said with enthusiastic zeal. "What news, sir?" her hand coming up to a salute in unison with her soft words.

"Serale Lt, i am here for my advance training is my teacher here yet." Garan said as he enters wearing his Narim Legion fatigues carrying his long swords in his sheath at the waist.

As patience was one of Medea's virtues, being an elf, she began to think that the delay in the Lieutenant responding to her meant that he might not want to draft her into the Guards at all. Despite continuing to wait she was beginning to think about fetching her bed roll in case the officer decided to think on it for another night. However, she thought better of it perceiving that it might be an entry test of endurance.

Walks in the doors and looks at the head of the training area. "I was raised around the sword and my sword has stayed with me all my life, but I wish to know about more fighting styles. I wish to know all there is. I have no money since I was not born here, so I wish to know if there are books I may study from, since books are known to be free. That is all I wish to do is learn all the styles possible. I Wish to ask to have your permission to at least learn from all the books on fighting that you have in the possessions of the kingdom. All I have is my sword, but that is meant to stay with me for life and will die for it. I kindly ask you for training in all the fighting styles possible, no mortal labor needed, just books."

Stands there as a tall, almost bulky like figure, bight blond hair, wolf blue eyes, and looking like none before. Looks as if related to the half human, half elves by his facial figure. Big for the elven kind, but showing the intelligence and intrigue that they have, while having the body of humans. Sits there and awaits for approval or denial to know what to do next.

"Well then, you can report to the training yards tomorow, but you will need your own place to reside, and it is good you have one, as we do not have an actual baracks where recruits can lodge. You will be joining the guard, we only have that, the millitia, and a special division. I almost forgot your other question, uniforms are provided as is food and armerments. Good day to you."

IC: You were excepted into the Coldmoon Guard, training with a bow being your focus. Food and uniform while in training will be provided, though haveing your own place of residence is a must as the guard dose not have a baracks. The guard is interested in recruiting more non-human persons and would eventualy ask that you help them in recruitment and in forming new special devisions.

"Yes sir, he is in the Training Yard now..."

Felyn'dira beamed at the lieutenants reply. Her mind swirled with a dizzy excitement, but she was forceably modest in order to maintain her composure; but the anticipation was obvious. The elf maid quickly bowed her respects to the official than silently backpeddled for the door, "Yes, tommorrow sir. I'll be here." That faeish anxiety which caused her cheeks to rose was fading, sharpened by the inner pride that gave her resolve. The opportunity was extremely appealing. She tarried long enough for one final smile than she was gone.

She had a nimbus of thoughts whirling about her mind. She headed on a course for her home in New Coldmoon commons. Her steps were quick, and determined. She felt an overwhelming sense of empowerment and had much to write about.

" Thank you" Seeing the man was busy, Garan heads for the training yard.

Medea rejoiced inwardly at the officer's words. As she departed she silently vowed to make her mark at her new profession within her adopted homeland and reward the Lieutenant's decision to accept her.

The next day she rose early and headed for the Academy training yards determined to set, and make, a good example of herself. Arriving there she aimed for the most senior looking guard and reported,
"Serale, good sir. It is my honour to report for duty having enlisted just yesterday. May I request you direct me to my first detail." She eagerly awaited the guard's reply.

ooc: Felyn'dira are you an Elf or Fae? I had thought you were a fae, but if you are an elf, I've missinterpited some things...

OOC: ....as elven as they come. But; awwww, c'mon - if you pull back after I got this excited....I mean....I understand...but......jeeez, I've been waiting F-O-R-E-V-E-R to get something as cool as that! Ah well, I'll understand if the idea is null now.
