Idoc Ross is an upstanding Citizen
Searching near Freeport [Private, Trouble]

OOC: I apologize if this is sloppy I was unsure how to start off on this quest.

Time Stamp: Month Melora Winter Day three of Year XVPF

Idoc looked at the man who had introduced himself as Steve, he then replied to Monsieur Steve "My name is Idoc Ross, nice to meet you
Monsieur Steve." Idoc said with a smile.

After listening to the clues given by the man, Idoc nodded and replied "I'll get right on it." he said smiling at the man. Idoc then turned to his faithful companion Rupert "Come on Rupert time to go." Idoc and Rupert began the journey to Freeport.

Monsieur Steve poured himself a mug of his own brew as the lad introduced himself. He smiled as the warm liquid slid down his throat to warm his old bones. He hoped the lad would find that coin, he was missing it sorely. "Now, you be careful, lad, those boys that stole that coin of mine didn't seem friendly. I'm pretty sure they'd have roughed me up fierce if I'd struggled. "

Idoc Ross and his furry companion began their walk through the city and their goal was a bit amorphous - the old man hadn't given very many clues - how would they find the criminals?

OOC: If their is something wrong with this post please let me know, I'll be more than happy to change it.

Idoc and his companion continued their walk until they finally reached Freeport, although the old man didn't give many clues Idoc figured he could ask some of the locals. Idoc noticed a young man he looked in his early twenties, Idoc decided to approach him
"Bonjour monisier, have you seen a group of men around here?" he asked looking the man directly into his eyes.

The man looked at Idoc and looked around. Turning back to him he gave him a Jaedaxian frown and half shrug and said. "Oui, monsieur. I see some men. I see some groups of ze men. Some zer, some zer - look some over zer too! Ze city, you see, she have groups of ze men. She haves ze men who have no groups too. P'haps Monsieur could be a bit more with ze details, no?"

The man leaned against the building he had been standing next too and pulled out a leather roll. He took out a pipe and started to fill it with tobacco. He looked up from under bushy eyebrows at Idoc as he filled the pipe.

"You look for zees men, eh? What for are you looking for zem, Hmm? Zey owe you monies maybe? " The man finished filling the pipe and lit it. He puffed several times until he seemed content that it would not go out in the harsh wind.

Idoc smiled and rubbed his hands together the cold weather didn't bother him but it was a habit for Idoc to rub his hands together. "I apologize monsieur I must be more specific, I am looking for a group of men that were seen in the area with a cart."
Idoc hesitated for a minute and patted his dog Rupert on the top of his head then continued "Have you seen any one around baring to that description?" he asked in a polite tone.

The man raised a bushy eyebrow and took a draw on his pipe. He blew what might have been smoke rings, but they were grabbed by the harsh winter wind too quickly for any rings to have been formed. He shrugged again. This is Freeport, Monsieur. There are ze carts and ze mens everwhere. What were zey doing zees mens of yours?"

The man with the pipe stamped his feet several times and looked at Idoc out of one eye, suspiciously. "Eh. Did Pierre send you over here to be playing ze jokes on me?" He shook a fist and continued, "Zat fatherless son of ze night woman, I will beat him to his deaths! He will be sorry! I am sick of his not funny jokes!"

Idoc raised his eyebrow hoping his last comment would of led to more clues, he shook his head and replied to the man "No monsieur, Pierre did not send me." Idoc put his left hand on his head and spoke once more "The group of men I am looking for, were seen with magick." Idoc paused for a minute then continued "I was sent by monsieur Steve, to look for his magick a group of men took it from him."
Idoc then looked at Rupert who was standing completely still, Idoc patted Rupert one more time then waited for the man to reply.

The man spread his arms expansively and gave Idoc a look that clearly said "why didn't you say so?" He took the pipe from his mouth. "Ah. Zose mens! Ze ones who were attacking Monseiur Steve, ze coffee man, yes?" He didn't wait for Idoc to answer but continued. "Zose mens. Yes, zey are bums. Hooligans, I tell you. Zey give good Jaedaxians all ze bad names." He turned his head and spit then stepped forward and put his hand on Idocs shoulder, gently turning him to face the street.

"Yes. Zey attack ze good Monsieur Steve right over zere as he was pushing his leetle coffee cart. Mon Dieu! Zat man make good coffee! Have you ever had it? Ce bon! But - you want ze men, not ze coffee, eh? Just so. After zey attack ze good man zey run zere - to ze east. Drunkards all. Zey can not even keep ze simple job, ze drink too much." He turned his head and spit again shaking his head in disgust. "You and your doggie - you get zem and teach zem a lesson, eh?"

Idoc nodded "Thank you monsieur I appreciate your help." Idoc looked in the direction the man said he had seen the hooligans. Idoc looked directly at the man "Don't worry I'll teach them a lesson they won't ever forget." Idoc said smiling he extended his arm out to the man, and shook his hand then spoke to the man one last time "Once again thank you for your help monsieur." Idoc and Rupert began walking in the direction the man had pointed to, he continued walking until he saw a group of men in a alley laughing for no apparent reason. Idoc knew the three men were obviously drunk, and fit the description, one of the men was standing next to a cart.
Idoc approached the men, "Bonjour, is this cart yours?" Idoc paused for a minute he didn't expect a quick answer he then continued "I've been looking for the three of you, I want the cart containing the magick back." Idoc smirked then spoke again "If you refuse, then I will have to resort to violence." he knew the men wouldn't give up the cart that easy. Idoc had his claymore on his side, that had been passed down from generation to generation. Idoc wasn't sure what to expect for the three men but he was prepared for the worst.

Idoc and Rupert walked to where he thought he saw what he thought was the men who had attacked Steve were standing. It was true, they were standing next to a cart, but this was the bazaar and almost everyone was standing next to a cart. Besides the cart that the men had been near when they had attacked Steve had been Steve's coffee cart. These men had been drinking, but so had half of the men in the area.

The men looked at Idoc, and they looked at one another, seemingly baffled. One of them looked at the other and shrugged. "Cet homme est fou. Il est aliéné. Il doit être." The other man nodded. "Oui."

Turning to Idoc he moved his own jacket to reveal a longsword. "Monsieur. I do not know who you think we are, but we don't have any magic. We have apples." He gestured to the cart, heavily laden with apples. "Now. It is considered rude in Jaedaxia to come up and start accusing citizens of wrong doing and threatening them. I hear in your voice you are not a good civilized Jaedaxian, so - I will forgive your ignorant transgression. Once. You need to learn manners, Monsieur, and I suggest you do so quickly." His two friends grunted and nodded in agreement.

Idoc shook his head, "I apologize monsieur, the men I am looking for matched you and your friends description." Idoc said in a polite tone. Idoc then began to explain himself "You see monsieur a group of men took a cart containing magick which belonged to monsieur Steve." Idoc continued "A man not far from here informed me he had seen the men heading towards this area." Idoc said with a serious expression on his face.

The man said, "Monsieur Steve." He rolled his eyes and looked at his companions. "Certainly we are not the men who attacked Steve. I saw them run by, but they did not take Monsieur's cart. They might have taken something else, but certainly not his cart. Just this morning I bought coffee from him and his cart was safe and sound."

One of the other men bumped the speaker with his shoulder and gestured with his chin toward Idoc and said, "Fou." The first speaker replied, "Maybe. What do we care, eh? He is no different than half the world, eh?"

He turned his attention back to Idoc and Rupert. He looked up at the cloudy sky and appeared to think for a moment. He breathed on his hands and rubbed them together for a moment. "These men - they ran by here - then headed east, which is no surprise. These men, everyone knows them. They drink and when they don't drink they pass out, puke or steal to drink again. They are scum and they drink where scum drink. You might find them at the Whale's Wharf or one of the other taverns down by the docks, trying to cheat unsuspecting sailors at dice and most likely being badly beaten for their troubles." He laughed. "These three - the Gods do not seem to love them overly much."

Idoc nodded and smiled "Thank you for your help monsieur, and once again I apologize it was an honest mistake." he said then motioned Rupert to follow him.
Idoc and Rupert began the long walk to the docks, although Idoc was short tempered he never liked to use violence unless he felt he was given no other choice. "Hopefully these hooligans won't be much trouble." Idoc thought to him self as he and Rupert continued walking.
The weather got colder, as Idoc and Rupert arrived at the docks "Whale's Wharf, here we are." Idoc said looking looking at Rupert. "Stay here Rupert, I'll be right back." Idoc said to Rupert, then walked into the tavern. Idoc noticed another group of three men sitting at a table across the room, these men were laughing and obviously drunk.
Idoc began walking towards the table where the three men were sitting, "Bonjour fellas, I'm here on behalf of monsieur Steve." Idoc remained calm trying not to jump to conclusions he continued "A group of three men took something very valuable to monsieur Steve, his magick." Idoc said looking directly at the three men.
"I came here to take back what is rightfully his, fellas I suggest you just hand over the magick." Idoc said he hoped these three men were the exact ones that took monsieur Steve's magick, but even if these men were the thieves he didn't want to get violent unless he felt provoked.

Idoc walked through the snow covered streets of the city, going eastward - the smell of the sea and the trades of the sea growing stronger with each step. In the summer the smell was almost a palpable presence, but in the winter the freezing temperatures kept it in check, at least to a certain extent.

Idoc arrived at the pub, with its sign hanging on by one chainlink, and entered. The smoke and stench of the bar hit him as he entered the darkness from the bright snow covered streets outside. The bar was packed with people, mostly sailors and longshoremen. There were a few others in clothes that suggested that the bar might more aptly be named "End of the Road."

Idoc picked a table he thought likely to be his three criminals and told them in fairly straightforward words what his assessment of them was. Unfortunately for him, they were not happy with that assessment.

In one swift motion the largest of the men stood and grabbed Idoc by the throat, and before he could do anything about it, slammed him against the wall and had an ugly dagger pointed at his throat. The weapon was long enough that it might be said to have pretensions of being a short sword, but in the hands of the large man it was clearly suitable as a dagger.

"You sayin we're thieves? You accusing us of something, stranger? Boys. This landbound city boy is sayin we's theives. Watcha think of that fellas?"

To answer his question the other two men at the table stood and pulled out well worn cutlasses. The rest of the bar continued in their drinking - scenes such as this were no stranger to the Whales Wharf.
