[East Dock, Private] Looking for some back-breaking work

Timestamp: 2nd Brightening of the 1st Cycle of Kalendryas, in the season of Winter, Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV PF. - Late Afternoon.

Finally he had reached the docks, with only small thanks to the rather bitchy woman he'd met earlier. Now all he had to do was to find the harbourmaster and hope they did actually have something that he could do. Right now, anything would be enough. It just needed to give him a few crowns in his pocket every cycle so he could pay for a room and board. Though, the possibility of purchasing some form of property also appealed to him. Afterall, if he was intending to stay in the city for a while, then it would likely be a good idea if he actually had somewhere to live rather than just paying for an inn room for Ioannes knows how long.

Karl took slow steps around the docks, his brown eyes scanning everyone that appeared to be at work. He was looking for someone that looked like they were in-charge, or any building that looked like it would belong to the harbourmaster. He used to work the docks back in Trysvale, so he hoped that it wouldn't take particularly long to find the person he was looking for. Then again, depending on just how busy the place was, it could take him most of the brightening for sure.

[Heartbreaker]

At the north end of the dock sat a small shack that seemed to be as good a place for the harbormaster’s office then anyplace else. People were waltzing in and out of it with great frequency and it seemed to be the busiest place on the dock….so logic told him to go that direction.

Once there, he stepped inside the shack and waited his turn. Soon enough, he was face to face with a stocky man with a serious expression. The man was writing in a book, not bothering to even look up at Karl for the moment.

“ And what can I do for you?”

Short…to the point.

Finding what appeared to be the place he needed, the large Vagaran quickly made his way towards the shack. It certainly appeared to be busy enough for the harbourmasters office, so it was the best place to go. Inside, there was a queue, which didn't particularly surprise him with the amount of people that had been passing in and out. Karl gave a soft sigh and took his place in-line. Part of him hoped it wouldn't take too long as he still wasn't entirely used to the cold in the city, but he also continued to berate himself for being impatient. He was here for a job, and showing patience may go down well with the person he had to speak with.

Eventually his turn came and he moved upto the desk. The man behind it apparently paid him no special attention and his short question meant he was obviously trying to achieve a quick turn around. Karl took a deep breath before explaining himself, to steady the nerves a little. "Serale. Th' employment office person sent me this way. I'ma lookin' fer manual work... done some dock work back 'ome in Trysvale, so i'm hopin' tha' I might be o'some use ta yeself an' whoever already be workin' around 'ere."

Maybe that would put the man in a better mood.

At least it was an easy request.

The man rubbed his chin a bit, apparently thinking about what he would say. The docks always needed workers…it was just a matter of figuring out where they could use him.

“ Well, we don’t have an specific specialty position available…but if ya be looking for just general grunt work, there is plenty of that to go around. Have you a place to stay and all that?”

If not, there were bunks available to the workers, but it usually brought down the amount of wages earned…so he liked to ask people first before assuming anything.

“ The pay is 40 crowns a cycle…30 if you need us to bunk and feed ya….your choice.”
