[Xyltha Thanole]

Cycle 3, Immanis, Winter, Era I, PF XV

The little spoon. It was a small spoon, insignificant in itself. Yet it niggled Xyltha to no end this brightening. Protruding through his nostril, it was an embarrassing sight to behold, dreadful in its hilarity and awkwardness it invoked.

It all started harmlessly, with his Rosyun. It wasn't his fault he tripped over the bucket of wine, and landed on his little spoon. His cute little spoon that now dripped with snot and blood, gooey and oozing down his nose. If not for the pain, he would have already pulled the spoon out.

Now, where would he be able to get this spoon pulled out as painless as possible? His first thought was to approach the healer. Yes, surely Gerard would help him rid of his small problem.

So, with a bag covering his head, and a pair of holes to serve as windows to the world, he ventured out onto the streets of Jaedaxia. Any law-abiding citizen would have no trouble suspecting no good from the masked elf.

Xyltha only hoped he reached the clinic before he was accosted by any guards or concerned citizens.

[Riconus Xind'ell]

It was certainly an unorthodox sight for most Jaedaxians, to see Xyltha roaming the streets in his most compromised of positions. What only amplified the attention brought upon him was the brown bag that covered his face, as he constantly found himself bumping into one person or the other. "Hey, mind watching where yer goin'?" one would say. "Take that blasted bag off, ya bum! Ye almost walked inta me son!" roared another.

However, by Xyltha's luck, at least no local guardsmen had been present during his horrific walk to the clinic. He had almost reached his destination too, until he bumped finally into the wrong man. He was a taller elven male, just as slim in build, with hair, that while similar to Xyl's, was incredibly well groomed. "Bloody hell, what in the name of..." said the elven man, as he turned around to see the masked-- or, um, bagged Xyltha walking the streets. Only the snicker of teeth could be seen from in between the bag's small holes.

"Just what do you think you're doing, eh? That must be the worst disguise I've ever seen, criminal! Show yourself!" Not a moment later did the blonde man rip the paper bag over Xyltha's head... a moment or two went by as the very sight of a spoon stuck up a nose could be interrperated... then pure laughter followed.

However, the blonde man felt somewhat sorry when others walking the streets also joined his jeers, even with some small children collapsing to the ground in giggles. "AHAHAH, how in Phedos' name did that happen!? Ah heck, I'm sorry for laughing lad, but you understand. Listen, I used to be a combat medic in the Imperial Legions, so maybe I can help you out a bit. Follow me."

The blonde man, which could now clearly be seen as a more priviledged individual with his garments of blue & green silk, quickly began calling Xyltha over to a small alleyway, standing in between of the medical clinic and a tavern. "C'mon laddy, let me help you out. If you go in that clinic, they're only going to laugh at you some more."

It wasn't everyday that Xyltha was swept off his feet, rescued in effect, by a stranger. But right now, in his current condition, he couldn't care less. All he knew was that his masked bag was ripped off, he was waylaid just a few feet from the Clinic, and ridiculed by a growing crowd of locals.

Just his luck.

He looked up at the stranger through bleary eyes, it was another elf. His back against the alley wall, he had his hands covering the spoon, which was still painfully embedded in his nostril, and stuck out like a sore thumb.

It's just not fair! Why! Why did this happen to me! I just want to go to the clinic! His wailing mind erupted in sobs... Despite his forty-odd ordinances, he was still young by elven reckoning.

"You - you can help me?!" His anguished whispers pleaded, between bouts of wracking sobs. "Get it out! Please just get it out, I can't bear it anymore!"

At a loss, no longer wishing to go to the clinic, he only hoped this stranger would follow through with his promise. Right now, he just wanted to be alone in his shame, or failing that, having the blasted spoon out!

"Alright laddy, just hold still..." said the blonde elf, as he gently began to wrap his hand around the spoon. He withdrew a small handkerchief, which would hopefully be enough to contain the bleeding. "Alright, this might hurt... a lot. On the count of three... THREE!" The instant and unexpected removal of the spoon was enough to delay the pain for the split second necessary to shroud Xyltha's nose in a hankerchief, but such a delay was anything but long.

The pain was more than slightly agitating, as the blonde elf tried to sit Xyl down on a crate inside the alley, while trying to keep his nose upward at all times. Firmly, the cloth was inserted into the nostril that had endured the pain, and after a moment or two, the bleeding at least began to succeed. Slowly, the now bloody cloth was removed from the nose, and discarded on the ground as Xyltha's newfound doctor inspected the area for further damages. "Well, I must say," admitted the elf. "In the ten patterns I served with the Legions, I have never seen that.

Nevertheless, it's probably going to sting for a while. The only thing I can suggest would be a good amount of rest, and maybe a drink or two to null the pain. And since there's a tavern next door, and I still feel bad for laughing at you, what do you say to me buying you a pint?"

"AAAAARGH!!!!!" Xyltha screamed out in agony at the exquisite pain that blossomed from the sudden yanking of the spoon. Be cursed the older elf...who was kind enough to apply handkerchief to his nose. But he was too much in pain to care about niceties or be grateful right now.

Huffing in exertion, he turned to look at the other elf. By now, the pain had begun to subside to a moderate sting and he regained the full enough faculty of mind to be grateful.

"Th..thank you," he whispered weakly. He only could nod as the other elf's offer, not wishing to speak at this juncture. When would this brightening end?

"That's the spirit. C'mon now, lad.

Oh, and by the way, the name's Nan'ili. Yours would be...?" The tall blonde, now known as Nan'ili, extended his hand out for a shake, before he made his way out of the alleyway and into the tavern which was conveniently next door. With a polite smile, he held the door open for Xyltha, with a hand that was adorned by rings carrying a variety of precious stones.

When entering the pub, it was a unique establishment in it’s own right, situated in the basement of the Terrace, served the purpose of showcasing the rich duality that encompassed almost all cities. Having its entrance on street that the Terrace overlooked, the Cove, as it was called, served primarily as pub and social house, featuring the same gothic style as the upper portions that made up the Terrace but with emphasis on the darker nature of gothic architecture. Candelabras and torches lined the walls while darker tones feed the senses. Long bench tables drew customers together; encouraging the Jaedaxian habit of communication and socialization while a few cozy tables towards the outside of the room permitted private conversations should they be wanted. The Cove featured some of the same style painted glass windows as the Terrace, but in deeper, richer colors to emphasize the darker nature, almost emulating the very feel of a catacomb.

Nan'ili took a pint of a darker ale, offering Xyltha to take a glass of whatever he prefered. They both took a seat on one of the couches before continuing with a far more ideal conversation, perhaps in the hopes that it might allow Xyltha some sort of escape from the pain he suffered.

"So, friend, I have to ask. Just how in the God's names did you manage to get that spoon stuck up there?"

Xyltha grudgingly accepted the mug of ale, and stooped low in his corner seat to sip at the frothy liquor.

"Well... nothing really ... I mean, I just sort of tripped. And ended up the wrong end of the spoon. I just woke up, so I wasn't thinking straight."

He took another sip, savouring the warm after-buzz in his elven tummy, and trying to shake off the dark memory of this brightening's happenings.

"But thank you. Thanks again for saving me, Nan'ili. I am Xyltha. Xyltha Thanole. It's not often that I meet another elf as kind as you."

Another sip.

"Where are you from? You don't sound like you're from these parts. I bet you're a police or a monk."

Nan'ili still couldn't help but smile as Xyltha conceded to his actions, as he took another sip from his pint. He at least attempted to console the young elf, and encourage his consumption of the stiff drink in order to get his mind off things. "Bah, oh well, such is life. Just keep on drinking, and before you know it, you will have forgotten about the whole incident."

As formal introductions were made, Nan'ili nearly fell into paralysis as the name 'Thanole' was mentioned. He had indeed known someone quite well back home with the same name, but hadn't seen her in ages. It would be interesting to see if there was any relation between the two... very interesting.

"Well me full name's Nan'ili Xind'ell. I was born in Syl'rosya, where I served in the 11th Imperial Legion as a combat medic for the better part of my early adulthood. I don't do much anymore, however, for a nephew of mine, Riconus Xind'ell, gives me a handsome salary just to train the troops in his army every so often; it would seem, that being connected is a very good thing in Aelyria."

Taking another sip from his mug, he was cautious to delve deeper into the Xyltha's history. Though, unable to hold off his curiousity any longer, he was forced to ask. "So, where does your story start off Xyltha? Were both of your parents Syl'rosyan, as well?" asked Nan'ili, nervously.

Xyltha couldn't help but arch his eyebrows in surprise. This elf's nephew was in charge of an army? While his youth betrayed his ignorance in matters of politics, he at least knew that one had to be influential to field an army within the Empire.

Then Nan'ili continued with his questioning. Xyltha felt slightly taken aback, not knowing what to say, or how much to divulge. True, while this elf had saved him, Xyltha barely knew this fellow.

"Well, yes. Both my parents are from Syl'Rosia. But I've ... err... left home. To see the breadth of the Empire, so to speak."

Nan'ili took another sip of his ale as Xyltha confided to him his ancestry. It still daunted the Syl lord, as to who exactly birthed Xyltha, for there were certainly not too many Thanole's in Syl'rosya during his time, and considering how... um, 'friendly' he had been with one of them, he was dieing to know if there was correlation between Xyl and his long lost love.

"Hmm... that's quite the coincedence, for I used to know a Thanole in Syl'rosya quite well. Her name was Cynthia... she was married, but our love for each other was quite strong. One brightening, however, I found that she had become with child, and that I was most certainly the father.

Alas, for the sake of Cynthia, and to preserve the honour of her husband - a fellow named Wynd, I believe - I was forced to leave Syl'rosya. It was only by good fortune that I was able to meet other Xind'ells that I survived my exile.

I don't supposed you know either of those two people, Cynthia or Wynd?"

The names came as a shock. Xyltha eye's widened, becoming as wide as saucers as he stared at the older elf in disbelief. His mind raced with the possibility that these names were a coincident - after all Syl'rosia was a large city of elves. But the fact that they shared a similar family name was too much to be a coincidence.

"Are ... are you sure?"

His eyes bored into Nan'ili's, feeling suddenly lost. He felt unhinged, like his world was falling apart, and the debris crashing around him. He swooned slightly, and tightened his grip on the table to stabilise himself.
