'Tar thought of himself as a balanced individual, one who knew the value of moderation. He thought of himself as someone who could keep a tight leash on his emotions, and deal with challenges in a level-headed fashion. Sometimes, this was even true.

As his efforts to reach the fish were frustrated, though, he found himself quickly losing patience. Indeed, uncharacteristically losing his patience - he shouted at the nearest person blocking his way. He found his hand going to his sword hilt, and very well might have drawn it in anger.

He came to himself slightly, shaking his head - there was no need for violence, at least, not yet. He would see the fish, although these ignorant people stood in his way. But patience may prove the better solution, here. If the Prince managed to acquire the fish, then the crowds would certainly disperse eventually, and 'Tar would have his chance. He would threaten the Prince, even steal the fish, if he must. These fools here didn't deserve the benefit of the Emperor's wisdom.

It didn't occur to 'Tar that he had never drawn his blade unlawfully, or threatened anyone with violence, or stolen anything before. Nor did it occur to him that "Brurrulbu'blub'blub" seemed more like a fantastical children's story that a real empire. And it most certainly didn't occur to him that the notion of a talking fish was simply ridiculous. Instead, his mind had settled on the puerile notion that he simply must speak to the Emperor, and obtain his insight.

OOCI have no idea whether there are checks in Aelyria or people just carry large amounts of crowns around in case they want to buy something expensive, so I’ve left it vague.

Tristan laughed as the fishmonger suggested that he buy the fish and set him free. The man was greedy! But then His Royal Highness hadn’t expected anything else since he had tempted him with the offer of crowns before – before he had found out that the cod was royalty and that it might be better to form an alliance with an underseas kingdom than put the emperor into a glass on his desk in the thane’s estate. Nobody in his right mind would just give two thousand crowns up.

„You will get your crowns, good man“, he assured the fishmonger. Since he made close to seven thousand crowns every month with his various businesses, spending two thousand on a fish didn’t matter too much. He reached for his purse (that was as always hidden so as to not tempt thieves). He presented the money to the fishmonger, and then the Royal Highness extended his hand, waiting for the bucket with the emperor in it. „The cod please, Sir.“ To the fish he whispered, „You’ll be free soon.“

Arianya Bedlams is a glorious SuperheroArianya Bedlams is a glorious SuperheroArianya Bedlams is a glorious Superhero
The dull thrum of something otherworldly in this scene slowly tickled it's way from the back of Arianya's neck to the present thoughts in her mind and she found herself tracking the tested air around the odd fish and it's even odder new companions. Her mismatched eyes slowly rose from the proclaimed emperor cod and it's new royal owner to the flickering face in the crowd. As she watched, a rather large, imposing figure near the back of the huddled mass began to push through, rather roughly, and obviously towards the unfolding trade.

The large eye's widened underneath their lashes even more, at the sudden display of force from the man, especially as the spiritual side of her sight acknowledged the wavering trail of power towards the small giant. The coarse man appeared to almost be fighting with his own need to reach them, which only confirmed her suspicions of ghostly interaction at hand. The thought ran through her head that whatever the feth was going on, it was about to get trickier.

Ignoring all protocol of society, blame it on the distraction of the moment, or just sheer lack of caring in manners, Arianya reached out, And laid her hand on Tristian's arm as he reached for the cod's bucket throne. Her eyes of silver and amber pairing stayed riveted on the large figure of the approaching Tar.

There was no other way to explain it. And with murmured concern lacing her voice, the ghost girl tried to warn the prince.

"Something's happening..."

So things had not gone entirely as he had desired, but they were still going somewhere and so with the honed zeal of a cricus barker Orbril changed tack and went from trying to pursuade the Fishmonger to get the fish to safety to instead trying to ingratiting himself with the scaley emporer and perhaps persuading the young princel to seek a more secure place to continue.

"Your Majesties" the gnome quickly scurried over to stand before the odiferous royals even as the exchange of moneys was completed "now that yer transactions done, titmay be wise to take ourselves to some place more secure and without the watching crowds. I have an office at Le Institut pour la Reserche if thats of use t' yer. I can get a tank and anything else yer might need from the Institutes supples..."

Orbril of course hadn't noticed anything more strange than a talking cod, but he had noticed the crowd;with its big bellowy bignob trying to push through to get closer and the weird bignob girl with her funny eyes. Crowds were funny things, or so Orbril had observed in his time, an eager audience was just a 'literal' stones throw away from a blind stampede or a ravening mob - and Jaedaxiennes made some great ravening mobs...

"Thank you, Your Highness! A most gracious gift to purchase my freedom from this horrible man!" - The fish exclaimed, jumping from its bowl and bowing three times in a row towards Tristan. - "Now I am free to go seek my beloved Anne Marie!" - Suddenly Monsieur Poisson looked distressed once again, turning back to face the prince, the creature still standing on its rear fin. - "But... I'm afraid I won't be able to reach her by my own means... if I attempt to do so, I will become stranded again... that is how I ended up here the first time... Perhaps... perhaps you and your servants here..." - he motioned towards the gnome and the two girls - "...could help me find my dear Anne Marie?" - Then the white haired 'servant' reached for the emperor, who gladly jumped back into its bucket to be retrieved by the witch.

The fishmonger let Arianya take His Highnesses' cod without issue. After all, he had been paid, it was up to the prince now whether to take his property himself or allow the woman to carry it. The merchant quickly stuffed the metallic coins or banknotes into his pockets. That which did not fit in there, went into a sack that was quickly emptied of its previous contents: salt. The condiment was expensive this far east in the empire, but not anywhere near as valuable as the payment the man had just received from Prince Tristan. As soon as the crowd dispersed, or elected to follow our heroes, the man would close shop for the brightening and go to hide his sudden wealth, like a pirate would his trove. Until he did that, he was in danger of being robbed, of course, since he now possessed money enough to buy a medium sized ship, own a piece of land, make himself a new house, get a carriage (horses, driver and all) or feed two or three families for a whole era.

Come to think about, Tristan's display of wealth - while travelling unguarded - might also become an invitation to thieves. That, coupled to the danger of the crowd surrounding him suddenly becoming a mob demanding access to the fish, made losing untrusted onlookers seem like a very good idea. Easier said than done, however, as they were all right in the middle of the mass of people. Should either Tristan or the fish move in one direction, the crowd would part to let them advance. But in the same movement, the people of Jaedaxia would quickly follow behind either, curious as to what the fish had to say and what the prince would do next: perhaps give them a few thousand crowns? Tar, in particular, would find that the more the group moved, the easier it became for him to, slowly but surely, close the distance between himself and the wise monarch of Brurrulbu'blub'blub.

What an odd craving, Ishkatar thought. His attention was momentarily distracted from the cod as he noticed the merchant empty his pouch of salt. He certainly couldn't remember ever having a salt craving before, but, well, there was a first time for everything, wasn't there?

'Tar shook himself out of the feeling, his girth jiggling slightly. Salt - what a silly thing to crave! After all, I'm no witch-doctor or adjurator - what use do I have for so much salt?

The thought did occur to him that he might mix a handful of the salt into the Emperor's thro... bucket. Perhaps it might make him feel more at home? And so, while keeping a close eye on the whereabouts of the Emperor and the Prince, 'Tar pressed through what was left of the crowd to gather a portion of the spilled salt. He would then proceed to follow the cod monarch, maneuvering through the throng of people as best he could.

Had his thoughts been less muddled, 'Tar might have wondered where the merchant was going with all of that money. His suspicious side might have wondered if the whole thing wasn't somehow staged, a ploy to bring wealth to the merchant. After all, a talking cod was quite the novelty. Had he been inclined to mischief, he might have even tried to talk the merchant out of a portion of the prize - perhaps by telling him that the Prince would surely conclude he was cheated, and would send hired thugs after the money... or some such thing.

'Tar's thoughts were anything but clear, however, and he was quite single-minded in his efforts to pursue the Emperor.

Dante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious Superhero

Dante had disguised himself as a pantera katta upon his arrival in the 'gift of the Empire'. Unfortunately for the dracon he wasn't well liked by some in this city. That said he still had multiple jobs to do. So instead of hiding out inside his home or warehouse he changed his seeming; donned a regular white tunic, blue vest and burnt orange trousers; hid his daggers and hand crossbow upon his person; and set out about town.

As he himself was a fisherman by trade he frequented the merchant stalls of the city selling his recently caught wares to some of the vendors there. He too was enjoying the very regular brightening when he noticed the talking fish from afar. While he did immediately recognize the prince and thane of Demios he was unsure of the man's disposition towards himself so didn't reveal his true persona to the prince. He didn't know any of the other participants in the impromptu fish auction so didn't worry about them recognizing him at all.

As the group bid, debated, and discussed what they wanted to do; Dante simply stood in the back ground focusing on his hearing, as his stealth trainer had instructed, almost to the exclusion of all else; just so he could keep track of what was going on. He listened and waited.

Then when the price reached 2000 crowns he guffawed. One of Dante's ships had acquired a whale which they brought in and sold and even that didn't bring such a handsome sum. Of course the dracon in the pantera seeming had no doubt that Thane L'Evienne could produce such a payment the dracon seriously doubted that he would. Of course as Ioannes would have it the dracon was proven mistaken. Indeed the prince did pay the exorbitant sum as well as promised that the fish would be set free. "A strange man indeed," thought the dracon to himself.

The crowd in the mean time had become more pushy and Dante found himself either surging forward with the rest or in danger of getting trampled. As he disliked the idea of the latter and didn't wish to waste any vis if he didn't need to the dracon in the pantera seeming made his way forward. He did slip into clara quickly, just to get a look at the situation from that point of view, but unless spells were suddenly being flung about the dracon he would channel any vis. Instead he'd get a good look then leave clara for now. Once the group started to move however Dante would use every once of his stealth knowledge, including his K'tesh cat stalk to tail the Order of the Fish Stick.

Sadera Xind'ell is an upstanding Citizen
Servant? Pfft. Sadera snorted when the fish suggested that she was just a maid to the prince. However, when she found herself pressed close to the eerie pale woman, a shiver ran up her spine and she decided to keep her mouth shut instead of scolding the fish. The witch doctor seemed to sense something that she couldn't, and as Tristan slowly moved through the surging crrowd, she felt a peculiar need to defend the bucket that the fish currently resided in. She, too, reached a hand towards the cod's transport, brushing the outside of the pail with her thin fingertips. Where are we taking him?

From the corner of her eye, she noticed 'Tar pushing closer through the crowd towards them. Warning bells rang in her head as the large figure, hardly inconspicuous, became increasingly agitated and determined to reach them. Oh, no you don't. Was he holding something? Would he attack? Small and slight as she was, she couldn't help feeling increasingly defensive of the fish-monarch and the human prince. She turned her body slightly so she could still keep an eye on the bucket, but most of her attention was directed towards 'Tar's path of approach. She thought of the small dagger she carried in her boot; though untrained in its proper use, figuring out how to stick it in someone couldn't be that hard, and she prepared herself to do just that if any other hands reached too close to the bucket.

Tristan L'Evienne is a glorious SuperheroTristan L'Evienne is a glorious SuperheroTristan L'Evienne is a glorious Superhero

„You’re welcome, Your Majesty“, Tristan said. He didn’t know how exactly to adress a fish emperor – having never met one – but ‚majesty‘ was never completely wrong. „And of course my servants …“ He looked at the people around him, smiling apologetically, hoping that they didn’t feel too offended. „… and I will be happy to help you.“ He turned to Sadera, the white haired woman and the rest and murmurred, „I’m sorry.“ He prooceded to extend his hand, as if waiting for the bucket with the cod, when he noticed that somebody was touching his arm.

He turned around, looking slightly irritated, until he saw the woman’s face. She was a beauty, despite her strange, mismatched eyes. „What is happening?“ he asked and immediately stood a little straighter and looked around, trying to find out if there was anything out of the ordinary (apart from the talking cod). „Did you see anything?“ He handed the bucket with the cod to her and let her carry it if that was what she wanted (although he wouldn’t let her run off with it of course). And of course he had no idea that she was an adjurator, just like him.

„I would appreciate it if you could take us to your office“, he said to the gnome. The fact that he had paid two thousand crowns without as much as batting an eyelash – together with the cod’s revelation that he was related to the prince – had attracted a fair bit of attention – of the wrong kind. „Let’s leave right now. I don’t like the look of some of those people.“ They looked as if they wouldn’t mind comitting a crime to get access to the fish (or him and his crowns!). He didn’t want to be here anymore when they decided to stop being peaceful.

Niven is a glorious SuperheroNiven is a glorious SuperheroNiven is a glorious SuperheroNiven is a glorious Superhero

Not having any particular reason for being in the area other than a social call on her friend, Niven was walking down to the docks by way of the market area. The petite Elf had no intention of drawing any kind of attention herself, though she was finding of late that, for whatever reason, that was starting to prove impossible. Perhaps it was her pretty face or her engaging personality that seemed to draw so much attention, but Niven was more than happy to hide her face and stay silent in order to better blend in. Her last visit to the city had left memories she wished to forget and she hoped not to have a similar encounter. She wore her simple traveling dress underneath her cloak. The hood of the cloak was pulled down low and kept her corn-silk blond hair covered, as well as hiding her bright emerald coloured eyes. The largeness of her cloak also concealed that she was armed with both her bow and quiver as well as her dagger.

As she walked, Niven came upon the crowd, but was unsure about what all the commotion was about. She tried to see over the people, but her 5 feet, 5 inches was not tall enough to even see over the shoulders of the people in front of her. Looking around in frustration, she noticed a Katta standing off to the side. Niven was about to walk up to him and ask what was going on, but the crowed started to move. Her curiosity oan the matter now peaked, Niven followed the group of people when they moved off, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever it was that was going on.

Arianya Bedlams is a glorious SuperheroArianya Bedlams is a glorious SuperheroArianya Bedlams is a glorious Superhero
With the deal concluding, chaos began to ensue as everyone in the motley crew; and new fish entourage; tried to find their place.

"Did you see anything?"

At the prince's question, Arianya opened her mouth to answer and then clamped it shut, shaking her head slightly, her eye's briefly darting towards the lumbering form of Tar, as the large man pushed through the crowds. There was so much going on, it wouldnt do to bring up extra unseen activity as well. She would just have to keep an eye on things, no pun intended.

"You are right, your highness, we should go...", was her only murmured response.

As direction's were dispersed, the ghost girl couldnt help but feel a bit foolish as the scaled fins of the fish Emperor demanded to be carried. Never one to daunt from the odd task, however, Arianya did as instructed and picked up the bucket, careful not to slosh it's contents. Waiting only long enough to hear Tristian ask for the gnome to lead the way, the new appointed Carrier of the Bucket stepped back and turned to allow Orbril a way through.

And off they went, Arianya holding what was hopefully the Prince's most expensive purchase today (one hoped at least, two thousand crowns was more then she had seen in her recent years),a lithe Sadera seeming to take up the bodyguard position, not to mention the several trailing followers.

She wondered lightly who was going to be more inclined to wave to the people. Prince Tristian or the Emperor of Brurrulbu'blub'blub.

"ah very good" Orbril straightened up as much as he could and looked about for the clearest and easiest route out of their collective conundrum

"Le Institut is this way" the 9 inch tall gnome indicated the appropriate direction, making sure to account for the larger size of his companions (which of course meant that he had to avoid his usual habit of dipping under buildings, popping through cracks and cutting along narrow edges) "only a few blocks unless we can find a wide enough alleyway fer yer. Er if someone be willing to give me a lift I'll nip ahead and get things ready. I think the Institute has a pond which might be suitable for keeping his ichthyoid majesty"

Dante followed on the edge of the crowd, keeping an eye on the proceedings until a most unexpected occurrence happened. He looked eyes with the unmistakable face of Niven Soliel. She was here in the city! She was concealing her identity, with good reason, and Dante unconsciously decided he needed to be by her side. With the new motivation for braving the crowd Dante headed into the fray, to first reach the loveliest elf on Telath as well as escort her to either the self proclaimed fish emperor and his royal guide.

Once he reached the elf he would speak just loud enough to be heard by her over the nearest crowd, "Miss Soliel a mutual friend of ours wishes me to make sure you are safe. Please allow me to escort you." He held his hand in such a way that it would be taken as a greeting or offering of escort by the casual observer, but would make it possible for her to clearly see his palm.

Surprised to be approached by the Katta she'd seen earlier, Niven kept her head down as he approached. Had she been recognized? How was that possible? She listened carefully as he spoke, low enough so only she could hear, and she was relieved see something familiar as he offered her his hand, palm up. She placed her hand in the Katta's paw and lifted her head to meet his eyes, finding them friendly and familiar. 'Dante,' she thought, the relief in her eyes unmistakable. What luck that she should run into him here! She inclined her head in acquiesce and allowed her friend to escort her within the crowed.

"I had hoped to find you here," she murmured loud enough for his ears only. "Though I wouldn't have recognized you if you hadn't me." Niven looked sideways at the Katta and a small smile formed on her pale pink lips. 'So this is the Katta seeming,' she thought, amused. She was aware Dante had one, but she'd never expected to see it.

Glancing around at the throng of people, they all seemed to be pushing each other, trying to get to someone or something at the front. "What is going on? What is so fascinating that it has drawn such a crowd?" She asked, her voice still low. "Has a pig learned to fly?" she asked, jokingly.

A smile grew on the Katta's face as recognition reached Niven's eyes, "She remembered." He walked with her, as his smile left and an angry glare replaced it. Not for Niven of course, he couldn't hold that with her if he wanted to, but for every other person in the crowd that got to close to the lady. Another town he probably wouldn't care, but Jaedaxia had proven itself much to dangerous to assume anyone was who they appeared to be... kind of ironic coming from a dracon who looked like a katta. Or perhaps it simply drove the point home.

"I almost didn't. If you hadn't looked directly at me I wouldn't have recognized you either. When we get somewhere a little safer you'll have to tell me what you are doing back here," Dante was indeed curious as to the answer to that question. Her last visit hadn't actually been 'inviting' as far as a return trip went.

He laughed at her question at the near truth of it, "You aren't far off. It seems that a codfish, one that I believe might have been dead, has suddenly developed the ability to speak and if that wasn't spectacle enough the young thane of Demios, his royal highness Tristan L'Evienne, has paid 2000 crowns for it. Hence the large crowd. Most seem harmless enough, although that big fellow there looks like he's about to start something..." Dante pointed at Ishkatar. "I figured I'd tag along to see what became of the situation as well. After all I am a fisherman by trade. If there is suddenly going to be a demand for talking fish I need to get more details right?" There was a note of mirth to his last statement as it was doubtful such a thing would occur. After all how many talking fish could there be?

"Would you like to join me or did you have something else more pressing to do?"
