Touch and Heal a Bloody Mess (Saka Basic Medicine)
Timestamp: to be provided by Saka
Herbi Vore sat waiting in his classroom, thick rimmed glasses with thicker lenses over his verdant eyes, his nose deep in a tome. When he looked up one could see his nose tip dark with drying ink. He waited for his new student patiently, but the subjects in the classroom for teaching were not too patient, one bleeding from the knees, another with a drippy eye, one with an ulcer the size of a grapefruit by his buttocks, another with labored breathing-- all men, all very sick and very in need of a good healer or medic's touch.
Herbi wore his robes, deep gray, and behind him was a diagram of a humanoid's anatomy. Jars of human and humanoid parts lined his untidy desk. Before him was a wound care kit and a jar of leeches. Herbi always had a line of patients waiting for him to heal them and usually he didn't heal them completely, he had the basic medical students practice on them-- not exactly hands on but Herbi was known for unconventional ways of treating his subjects/victims/patients and his classes moved quickly-- one learned more from him in a candlemark's time than from reading tomes.
Hopefully Saka wouldn't be bored this time around in class.

Saka made his way in the classroom, the teacher seemed rather content on waiting as if time really did not matter, but the subjects on the other hand were not so kind as they waited. Saka saw the point in being clam about waiting as you would make mistakes if you were in a rush or tired to fast without thought maybe this class would teach him more then one thing.
He bowed to the teacher as he stood waiting looking at the people and the clear signs on there bodies, no he would not be bored here if he was then it would be rather bad on so many levels.

ooc: sorry for the wait.

The very first patient the young Saka was to practice on was a young woman with a massive gash on her right calf. The wound was weepy and full of pus, draining and nearly deep enough to see the tibia bone.
"Saka, what would you do in this case? The wound is still bleeding and it looks infected. How do you propose we treat this?" Herbi was ready to jump at the lady's calf but instead he waited with practiced patience for his new student to brainstorm a healing treatment.
"You don't have to do anything yet, just throw me some ideas." Herbi rubbed his palms happily.

How did people get wounds like theses when they were not even in combat he would never know as he looked at the wound.
"That pus I would think needs to be drain somehow then something to stop the bleeding as she is losing a good amount of blood. Maybe something for the pain and maybe some herbs for the infected part." He said without being rush even if the female was in pain and needed help, making mistakes and being rush would not help him.

If he had a question, he should then ask. Try lying on a numb and sensation-limb for a few good weeks and one would see breakdown, not even weeks, a good few days. Same went for people with sweet-urine disease *diabetes in RL* they developed neuropathies in which they feel nothing in their feet-- they step on a nail or something like that, the skin breaks down and they won't even know it-- but in the case of the woman, the wound started as a small laceration, become infected and the skin broke down.
"Draining, cleaning, all good ideas." Herbi rushed over to the woman, poured saline water over her wound to clean it, then alcohol to sterilize further, and dropped a bunch of maggots over the wound to eat the bad flesh. Of course the woman started to scream in pain and terror, almost fainting, but that got the job done.
"Now apply all-heal salve over the wound, and wrap it, not too tightly. Lady come back tomorrow, same treatment. Next patient." Herbi snapped his fingers. The next patient was a man with black fingers.
"What do you think happened here? and how to treat?" Herbi asked Saka. The man with the black fingers cringed.

Saka looked at the mans black fingers, his stomach fliping a bit due to the sight. "I think there could be lost of blood or maybe its dead?" He said really unsure about it without knowing more.
"When and where did this happend to your fingers?" He asked the man maybe getting more information would help him.

The man told a sad story short-- he was climbing one of the mountains, a dormant volcano when the weather suddenly changed from lovely to frighteningly cold, freezing his fingers with mountain ice-- causing a nasty case of gangrene and total necrosis of the fingers-- which were now black, dead, bloodless.
Herbi nodded his head and congratulated Saka for his questioning and deduction.
"You are right, they are dead and since they are dead, they are useless." Herbi snapped the fingers right off of the man.
"Want to keep them for a souvenir? Oh by the way, fingers of a human do not grow back. I'm sorry."
The fingerless man cried and limped out of the room. The next patient Herbi moved toward was a little girl who breathed and sounded like she needed iron lungs-- it was as if instead of lungs she had two bags filled with nothing but phlegm.
"What would you do with her...?"
Breathing looked hard for the poor girl.

"Drain the lungs or clear them up somehow, by the sounds of it she sounds sick maybe her thoart or the lungs themselfs are bad." He said unsure what to do with this one or what was wrong. He felt sad for her and what might happend to her.

Since the lungs were the problem, filled with phlegm, Herbi flipped the girl upside down and cupped over her lung lobes to loosen the secretions inside of her. He addressed all areas of her lungs, percussing them with his palms cupped and then asked her to cough. She hacked out wads of greenish secretions-- which meant infection, Herbi told Saka.
"I will prescribe to her vinegar and honey and lots of water, and a rinse of the throat with salt to kill the infection," he explained to his student.
The next patient was a young man with a scalp of bald spots and itchy welts. On close inspection, one could see little moving black bugs on his head.
"What would you do for this poor man Saka?" The man kept scratching his head and his nails were bloody.

"I would shave the hair off, then maybe rub maybe rum or such maybe wrap something over the wounds to stop the bleeding." He said as he saw the black stuff was mainly near the mans hair line and no where else on the body like neck or face.

"shaving the hair off is a good idea, the man has bugs attached to the hair-- it's basically lice. Once there is not more hair, there is no place for the lice, the eggs to nest in and the man can have his scalp back to himself." Herbi proceeded to shave off the man's hair with a blade, and then applying a salve over his scalp to suffocate the remaining lice and heal the wounds...
"very good Saka, you are on your way to basic medicine and healing. It is very simple to fix a person. if a bone is broken, you put it back into place, you cast it. if there is bleeding, you stop the bleeding. If there is congestion, you get rid of the congestion. If there is a cut, you clean and heal it. if there is a fever, you stop the fever. Very good. That is all i shall teach in this class my son... Any questions?"
:SAKA: Basic Healing/medicine completed. xp 2 points
