Small Steps to A Dream (Saka, closed)

Autumn, one brightening after Saka applied at the universitas to be assistant to Rayra Siros.

Rayra Siros waited patiently for her new assistant, a luxury she had not known she could afford but thanks to the generosity of the Universitas to their master elementalist, even if she were paid per diem. She was brilliant at her art but genius often came with awkwardness and quirks-- she was so disorganized a hurricane could be jealous of the mess she could create in her room, her office. She wore a flowing robe of light turquoise, her long black locks lying like a black river against the small of her back. Her light gray eyes scanned the room for her new assistant.

She turned to the clerk and casually chatted with him while she waited. And then when she saw Saka, she smiled. "Can you believe it I have a new assistant. The name is Rayra Siros. How are you? Come carry these books for me?" Five heavy tomes were floating in behind her carried by a tiny whirlwind. The whirlwind died and the tomes fell to the floor.

Saka woke early in the day, he found his "boss" rather easy. He wore an pair of dark red robes that were easy to move around in. He noted how the books stayed until he came closer he enjoyed the trick but by the sound of the books hitting the ground he would not enjoy the task. "Greetings, my name Is Saka and I am well. I would love to carry them for you." He said as he smiled bending down picking them up. One felt it was like an large rock but he got them all up and stood even if his knees were shaking a bit from the weight. It had been years since he really carried anything havey.

When he was younger he helped his father carry some of his armour like the helm or pack but nothing to over the top. His mother just used magic if she had to carry anything whatever it be an small wind spell or making the item lighter.

Once he had an good grip on them he moved behind her following her. "Miss Siros where are we heading now?" He asked poilty.

"Saka Saka, I'm glad you'd love to carry them for one who loves his job is one who shall succeed," said the pretty lady happily. "Where we are heading. Well let me tell you. I do not like the drabness of a classroom so I take my students all over Demios to learn Elementalism. The beaches for the element of water, the volcanoes for fire, open fields for air and the mountain ranges for earth. But today, I need to sort out some documentations first. Afterward, we can travel to greet the elements." Rayra winked and then led Saka to her office.

Office was not the word to describe the place. Pig sty suited it better. Papers were everywhere as if a tornado had been born inside the room. Her robes were on her desk, dust had piled up enough to give people asthma attacks-- a pity for such a lovely creature to be so untidy.

"Please help clean this first? Arrange the documents alphabetically, and maybe mop things a bit... I shall be meditating. Ah also if you are interested, you may look at the arcana primer scrolls before we head out."

He just smiled and noded at her and his smile fail a bit once he saw her office. He knew this would not take an simple candlemark or so he knew it would take much longer. but he was here to help as much as he could in hopes for some crowns and to learn.

He put the books down not caring where now as he had more work without an word slowly going though the papers seeing the titles and placing them in one pile. After what felt like half an day he slowly was able to see the desk then took them all and placed them on the ground. Once he did that he started putting them in diffrent piles for each an letter went a new pile. Once they were all in there own large pile he took an step back looking at them.

How long had it been he wonderd, why did she not give him an time limit? That lone thought crossed his mind more then once and she told him he could read which could had took hours in some cases. She had just stayed in one place but he knew she was like his mother she could had her eyes closed in one place for hours yet knew his every movement.

He went to the pile that he had labeled A in his head going though them putting them in order and more piles as he went though them but much neater then her stuff then soon had them all in order, one down so many more to go he thought. He moved the pile away from the rest and slowly started to do the rest the same way.

What felt like an year he was done, he was tired but it would soon pass. Before he put them all together he was making sure they were neat and would stay neat if he would work with her.

"I need 27 sheets of paper that is larger then theses please."He said as he smiled at her, smiling he did not alot it felt like yet when he was not around people he did not really smile often.

Her meditation ritual was of course disturbed by the antsy little man scuttling here and there to bring neatness to her office. The end results brought her to arch a nicely shaped eyebrow. "Not bad I guess," she muttered before she pointed to a box filled with different sized papyrus. "Take all you want, we've plenty of paper in here. Though it's all for documentation of my teachings-- very seldom do I give written assignments or papers to my students. Though if you wish to write a 1000 word essay on arcana, you are welcomed to." Rayra winked at Saka.

"When you are finished we shall dedicate some time in teaching you. Tell me are you unbound?" Rayra could easily sense if one was or wasn't, but why not give him some say in this? "We shall find a nice open area in the woodlands to unbind you if not."

He just made an quick nod as he took out larger sheets placing them and writing each letter on the top placing them between each stack as he slowly got them all stacked so they would be easy to get and put. Might not had been just students work but even her work would be better.

He looked at her and smiled but it was rather sader then anything. "No my mother would not unbind me as she wanted it done in a safe area and to give me time to learn the right way. She said it would not end well if I was ever unbound in times of war or if I was on the run." He said as his voice was lower almost more to himself then her.

"Sure we can take care of it now I will write the essay later then I guess and I would not mind it." He said as he walked to her to stand behind her as he did not know where she would go or do it here.

Surely he was kidding about the essay-- Rayra knew she wouldn't read his essay and just mark it with a B- regardless, letting him pass but without a pleasing grade.

"That is a strange thing to hear... but if you say that's true, that's what it is, it's true." Rayra shrugged. She was here to work, not learn about her student's sad tale of war and other none beautiful things. The only war Rayra knew of was the battle between the Demiosians and mermen four eras ago.

"Come along then, it's a good job you did with organizing these papers. I know I would never do such a thing. Organized or not, I'm still a Master Elementalist." Rayra grinned and she led Saka out of the Universitas. The walk to the open woodlands was not a short one, but within half a candlemark later, they reached their destination, near a small stream and two large gray rocks.

"Sit and do like so." Rayra climbed upon the rock, crossed her legs and closed her eyes. "Tell me Saka, what do you know of arcana? I believe much since your mother was one who was able to unbind others?"

He walked with her to the woodlands, it was nice place to say the least. Birds were making some noise futher off, the sounds of the steady flow of water as Saka wacthed it for a bit, the wind in the trees.

He took an seat on the ground, his legs in front of him as he was in a sitting postion. "I guess she was, she never showed it. I read alot of her things but she said it was just basic stuff everyone should know. Just ideas of how to make an circle and what it is, What mana and Ara." He said as he remembed the old texts she use to have.

Rayra narrowed her eyes at Saka and shook her head. "That much will get you not so very far," she told him with a tsk-tsk of her pretty pink tongue. "I have to tell you there is more to arcana than mana and ara-- there is vis, there is essence, there is clara, meditation, channeling, shaping, casting to name a few terms. Do you need me to explain them or will you do just fine without some explanation?"

She didn't know how much he knew, but if he claimed he knew, then she didn't have to waste her oxygen on explaining. These were free lessons after all, even though he was her new slave.

"If you don't need an explanation, you may close your eyes and I'll unbind you. Just so you know, not everyone who goes through this process can be easily unbound."

If he needed an explanation, Rayra would oblige.

If he were ready then she would touch his forehead and unbind him. If this unbinding would be successful, then he would fall into a deep sleep and have a dream, flashbacks, or visions.

ooc: have him see things, could be a dream, or flashbacks, or something random.

Saka just nodded as he looked at her, her fingers felt cold he thought before he fell to the ground, sleep so stong overcoming him.
He felt like he was falling. Where am I? Saka thought as he tried to open his eyes but just saw darkness, just a feeling like he was falling though the air before he landed, his body hitting the ground with a hard thud. He blinked a few times, he felt light headed, small patches of blackness around his line of verison. He just saw dark ground, his mind felt heavy and foggy.
"So you are awake I see, being lazy as always, stupid child." Saka heard near him. The voice sounded so familiar yet so different Saka thought as he started to move his body to stand up. He felt a mix of heavyness and drained. "Who are you? Where am I?" Saka asked as he looked around but unable to see anything. Just darkness and the hard patch of dark ground he was standing on.
"Psh you should not be asking who I am if you don't even know who you are." That same voice asked in a mocking tone of voice. It was so close Saka thought but so hard to pinpoint, he based everything on his eyes and touch, hearing he was good but he never worked on it nor his smell. "Then if you know all the answers why don't you tell me who I am." Saka said getting mad at this predicament he was in. "Who knows who you are better then yourself I wonder."
The voice was behind him as Saka turned around and was speechless at what he saw, his face drained of color leaving him even more ghostly pale more death like. The person he saw was himself but he looked different. The person was older looking, his eyes hard and colder then Saks normally bright cheerful eyes. Everything else was the same, but the voice he knew now it was colder like more bitter like as if the world had stabbed the joy and riped it put leaving nothing but a bitter shell.
"So the stupid child wants to learn to be like his mother and master the elements, such a noble art." He said with an distaste and mockingly that was heavy in the air. "Psh as if he could truly master anything other then being scared little child who hates the darkness when the lights falls." He said as he took an step to Saka. Saka might not have been the brightest person but he knew he did not want this guy anywhere near him so he took an step back. "Your me, how can that be?" Saka asked as the other person just laughed. "Ha as if I would ever be as low as yourself. My name is Sakamerki. Try to use it."
Sakamerki raised his right hand his index finger pointing out as the others were curled as an flame shoot out, it was long blue color like an arrow shaped striking Saka in his right arm above the elbow as flames engulf his arm burning him badly before evaporating making Saka scream with pain it was wordless as Saka started to run away as fast as he could, the pain felt so real.
His body that Rayra Siros was with was moving around like an person would in a restless sleep, but his mouth open screaming wordless as if in pain as flames erupted where Sakamerki fired the arrow before quickly leaving but the damage was done with bad burns to the arm. His breathing became faster as an athlete running a marathon; his hands and face full of perspiration.
He was running away as fast as his legs would take him, his feet hitting the ground hard, muscles felt like they were tearing and burning, his arm stinging from the burn, breathing was harder. Darkness all around him before he fell to the ground sliding a few feet before stopping, his head felt so light, his limbs so heavy. Sakamerki was laughing he heard behind him. His hair on the back of his neck on end.
"Such a slow person even a human could beat, also so much weaker. Heh even a six year old could beat you. No wonder your dear mother would not teach you anything in the art of arcana. Such a weak mind could never learn to understand the basics, the body so weak that it would beat it apart tearing it down to a lifeless shell. How could you even think of becoming an mage, let alone a true master?"
Saka slowly got to his feet, pain was one word he would use right now, pain throughout his whole body as he looked at Sakamerki. Without a run and more of an rush of a impulse Saka rushed to Sakamerki with his left fist in the air throwing a punch at his head. A small vertex of air formed near the hand, a sphere of air sucking in air and Saka's hand even as he tried to fight it but it took it anyway. The air cut the hand badly twisting the index and middle finger snapping the bone as he screamed again out of sheer pain.
His body again the same hand formed deep cuts the index and middle finger snapping in the middle bone and the bones at the knuckle. His body thrashing compulsively around the ground before becoming very still with hard panting. Sweat dripping off his forehead now, tears sliding down his face. soft moans from his lips like an plea of help and mercy.
"See what I mean? Sheer force can not overcome even the simplest of spells like wind. Your bones are so easily broken, even the basic person would not try to fight magic." Sakamerki said as he took another step closer as Saka was bend over, his arm felt limp, his left hand broken now. He had to wake up but it did not feel like a simple dream no more. It was not right somehow, did not make sense to him.
"M-mother help me please." Saka said softly as tears started to roll down his face. "Hah you think she can save you now when you could not even save the man she loved? He died as you could not help him, you could not even defend yourself when the attackers came to you and your mother, making your mother fight as you ran, you ran away leaving her all alone."
"Shut up, that is not how it went, she told me to run, she told me to go hide, you know nothing!"Saka yelled as his anger flooded over him as he ran again this time the ground around Sakamerki rose crafting into arrow shapes but it was just rocks as they flew at Saka, Saka moved to the right turning around running away again as he heard the spikes hit the ground with a deadly crack.
He felt so weak, his body could not keep up. Sakamerki was right he was weak he could not even defend from basic spells even if they did not look so basic. He thought as he kept pushing like he did that day he ran from a group of humans that were attacking there village so long ago. He should had been training everyday not start now after so many years of waiting around. He was lazy on things but not everything.
He came to a stop as he came to an large door. It was huge towering over him, It looked like it was made out of stone, grey coloring with symbols etched in it. On the upper right side in the middle there was an flame symbol, under it was wind, next to wind on the left side was earth and above that was water. In the very middle there was something holding it all together but it looked like something broke it off leaving just a deep scar like look. The door was closed but Saka felt something behind it but what it was he could not place.
As he stared at it he felt at peace but in the back of his mind he felt fear and something told him not to open it but it was slowly being quiet as he heard Sakamerki laughing again. What did he have to lose he thought as he touched the door. It felt so cold, rough yet so smooth under his fingers, he could not think of the pain in his arm or hand no more. If he did Sakamerki would win and by the looks of it he wanted Saka dead as he pushed at the door trying to move it but it would not give in.
"I would not open that door if I were you. You see that would be a bad idea but then again you are good at doing the wrong things. If you just knew even the basic of things you could had saved them both, your mother did not want you to learn and help, you always got in the way didnt you. Yes your father lost his edge when you came to be, you slowed him down making him an easy target for the raid. Your mother could not spend all her time working as you kept bugging her with questions of this and that."
An fear plunge in his stomach, hope was falling as tears ran down his face. "Mother please help me one more time, help me please." Saka begged banging on the door before he just stopped like an lifeless doll. Sakamerki was laughing as he stroll towards Saka. "See what I mean, hope its pointless to hold on to for such a weak person." He said as he raised his hands sending many flame like arrows at Saka.
The doors symbols slowly started to glow the arrows just vanishing right before they got to Saka. He felt empowered, the fear was gone. What is this feeling he thought before his thoughts just stopped. He was no longer himself it felt, He was an doll almost as he turned around facing Sakamerki, his eyes were no longer light blue but almost pure white.
"You talk to much." He said, his voice different, smooth like silk. An soft glow of around his right hand as he lifted towards Sakamerki, small vortex's of air formed around Sakamerki but they were red in color and felt so hot as Sakamerki just waved his hand to no use. His hands pulled cutting and sheering with burns before they were gone.
"Smart to use wind itself like an whirlpool to draw in objects but not that smart if you wont use elements with it."He said before arrows of ice shooting from his finger tips striking Sakamerki in his legs. The ice was like steel as Sakamerki screamed with pain.
"We are one Sakamerki, That is my name not yours you are merely an shadow of what I could be and am. Know your place maybe we both will live long enough to see the murders dead."Saka said as he touched the door, the doors edge glowing a hot burning color before opening just a bit as Saka fell in it, falling again as sleep overtook him before landing again on the ground.
"Su`kea was right not to teach you, Such power you can do. Time will only tell what you truly can do. That door It will open one day but until then you will just be an normal person just gifted in the arts. Rayra Siros was a fool to try to unbind you but if you are in Demios then you should be just fine." Sakamerki said as he stood over Saka's sleeping body right before that stone door. It was closed just barely opened as power flooded out like wisp of white fog.

Candlemarks later, the last bit of the dream faded away from Saka, and he would wink his eyes, sleep now replaced by full wake, a soreness that engulfed his body, sweat drops glistening on his forehead. As he went through the process of unbinding, Rayra dozed off herself, but when Saka stirred, so did Rayra.

"I was just meditating," she fibbed. "Anyway, how do you feel? How was the unbinding? It was successful, congratulations. Any insights to life? Drastic changes?" Rayra grinned and patted the man on the shoulder. In the past, during the unbinding, one of her student was so overwhelmed, he immediately committed suicide afterward.

"Now that you are unbound, you may start meditation to reach clara. For an initiate it will take anywhere from five to ten minutes. In clara you will be able to meld your vis with ara, then reach the astral plane to channel elemental essence to bind with the vis/ara arcalysis, this to form mana which you will draw back to the material plane to shape a spell I'll impart. Tell me, do you wish to learn the standard spells I'll teach or my very own set of initiate spells?"

Sweat slowly dripped off his face as he laid on the ground, staring up at the sky, it was slightly cloudy white clouds that were slowly moving off as he felt an soft breath of wind on his wet body. His breathing was rather fast them normal, sore sore was an understatement of what he felt like, his hand in pain but nothing broke just felt like torn muscles, his arm felt burned sadly.

What did he think afterwards? His mind felt blink, yet restless he felt free on some level like an new field of vision had opened before him. He smiled as he slowly got up but only sitting up looking at her, his body at ease, breathing slowing down back to normal as did his pulse.

"It was well, don't really remember much of it sadly." He said knowing it was an lie, in truth he remembered everything from what he saw to the deep fear he felt. Whatever it was he remembered maybe one day he would ask her what it was or if that was normal.
"I wish to learn your own set of spells Master Siros." He said as he bowed his head slightly towards her. He was ready to learn and tap into his power and not to be so helpless and weak. He would no longer run or be in fear he would do whatever it took, no matter what kind of training or work he had to put forth to become better and keep the ones he cared about safe from harm.

Rayra clapped. "Oh you won't be disappointed. I've been working forever to craft some initiate spells to replace the boring ones I've had to teach all these brightenings. You're in fact the second student who wishes to learn my spells. In fact I've plenty to teach, but you can always come back to learn the original set of initiate spells if you wish. The very first spell I shall impart is the Water Dragon."

Rayra slipped into arcana to meld her vis with the ara around her, before entering the astral plane to harvest and channel the element of water to mix with the ara/vis arcalysis. She created mana with the mixture and the astral plane disappeared as the material plane reappeared. She shaped the mana into a spell, the Water Dragon, a small dancing dragon of water, pretty as it was and useful when one needed the use of water. The spell, she explained, could last for thirty seconds for an initiate as a companion-- the dragon seemed to have a life of its own or it was just her wicked imagination. The dragon spell could be used to attack an enemy, slapping an enemies face with the tail of a dragon, enough to knock out some teeth and poke out an eye with more practice.

"Go ahead, Saka and try this spell."

The other spells:

The Fire Dagger:
Small daggers of fire shooting out from one's fingers to stab and burn an enemy-- the more practice, the more power, only one dagger at a time for an initiate.

The Air Dance: a dance of air around the caster, to lift the caster an inch off the ground, a shield of wind around the caster- 15-30 second effect, depending on the practice and the amount of mana created.

The Earth Stomp:
This spell gave power to one's feet to stomp mud, earth, and kick a small boulder. It also wrapped one's feet in hard mud so if one wanted to kick an enemy, there will be an extra umph!

the Icy Fingers:
Fingers of ice, burning others with a mere touch of ice.
And pick one original initiate spell to learn from the lore section.

Saka loved her spells as she showed them to him. His eyes watching every movement she made, every sound or look she had even if her face was mostly blink. The dragon did seem to have a mind of its own, he wondered if it was an low spell like one of the elemental from the water plane.

He stood there, his eyes closed trying to focus, to enter the state needed to use magic. He did not know how long had passed. Slowly he could not even put it in words but slowly he opened his eyes in a sense and he did not see the normal black that was in his head, he was standing on clear ground, fire was north of him, water east, wind south and earth to the west. All twirling around as if one thing and not four things. This must be what he thought of the astral plane.

He knew what he was doing yet at the same time he did not, it came as if breathing you know how but unable to tell why or how. He needed the water and slowly yet quickly pulling and pushing almost mixing together.

As he opened his eyes he saw his teacher, his eyes looking more then his normal carefree, his eyes were slightly cold almost. He raised his right hand, his palm open pointing to the sky as water slowly formed, it was rather small but he did not put much mana in it, it felt like. It was small thick like dragon, it was standing on his palm, its tail slowly moving back and forth looking around with its small eyes. Without any sign or forewarning it jumped flying almost with its small wings hitting an tree turning at the last second striking it with its tail before moving back to the palm before the spell broke apart as it just left in thin air.
After a few monuments he looked at the tree, it was an small cut in the bark nothing to big or wow but he pointed his right finger at it, he felt tired from the dragon spell but he wanted to go on. Doing the same thing but adding more mana but of fire he starting working on the fire dagger.

Same idea just different parts, he thought he knew as everything was basic no matter what it looked like. Soon it felt like in his head or was it long after as he felt an bit better before he starting mixing the mana and vis for the spell as he shot an small dagger like shape made of fire at the tree. It did not do much but just left an small burn mark with an bit deeper cut.

He did not cast any more spells just stayed in that state as he stood there resting slowly building up his mana for the next spell as he would need it. He was tired but had to keep pulsing he would not let a few weak spells get the better of him this time or any time. How many more spells could he use before blacking out he wondered, Maybe one two who knew he lost count, his mind felt fuzzy clouded almost.

He mixed it once more into wind as he formed an barrier pushing it under and around as he slowly hovered a bit off the ground before the wind broke into many shards, he put to much he thought as he fell just an few inches but still failed. He did not know what happened next but fell the to ground, blacking out as sleep over took him in a worst way he could think of.

You’re weak. When a weakling enters enemy territory, they call that suicide. To save someone, you’ve gotta grow up. Don’t use other people as an excuse to die

Saka Rosedl is an upstanding Citizen
He woke with a start, his body felt sore, his head hurting a bit. What happened he asked himself as he slowly got off the ground. His teacher was no where to be found and to top it off it was dark. Something about three thing rule came to mind but he could not really remember it that well.

After waking up a bit and being able to stand without feeling like he was drunk he started again to focus, he had learn the other spells now it was time to do the others she showed him before he went off to find her even if he had a feeling she was near by. Something told him she would not leave him alone for long on his own until she knew he was ready.

Earth. An single thought breaking the clear water he had as he stomped his foot. At first nothing happened until he kicked it out, mud had warped around his foot once he kicked it towards the tree it left it foot as if he kicked an large ball shooting it towards the tree hitting it. Theses spells he was getting the feeling were just the real basic as even he saw them doing so much more with greater skill.
One more element to go he knew, one more spell she showed him, his eyes closing once more focusing. He yet knew what all the technical stuff he was doing mainly he was doing what felt right, soon his hands starting to feel a bit numb before he walked towards the tree grabbing it. The bark felt cold before he understood it was his fingers, this spell you needed some being that could tell you how it was but the tree worked just as well.

He jumped back after a bit and took an small rest, his eyes worked a bit less then normal it was a shame he could not think of a spell or knew an spell that would make light. Well that spell would work he thought as he started looking around for some sticks, slowly he started making a small pile before pointing his finger at it shooting an fire arrow making the pile bust in flames making an small fire.
It would not last long he knew but it was better then nothing. She would most likely think of him as an idiot or just an bad student that would make a worst worker for her. Who knew what went in her mind.
