Silas yawned as walked down the corridor that would lead him to his instructor. "Ohh boy the seventh candlemark? Why so early?" mumbled Silas. He jumped as a voice behind him spoke. "Well if ye' don' like it, then you ain't fit ta' be the navigata' of a sea worthy vessel, more like a ruddy fishin' boat, pah when I was a sailor as a youngin' like yerself I ad' to rise and be up and at'em at the third candlemark! Pathetic! Anyways I believe I'm yer instructer fer navigation on a ship eh, pleas' ta' meet ch'ya!" By the looks of it Silas' instructor was a Human. He was very muscular and had the beginnings of a beard growing around his face. He had a flask with something in it...probably whiskey or something and he had a red bandanna over his head and it seemed he was bald. He was wearing a red and white striped shirt with green pants a brown leather boots with a patch over one eye.

Silas turned around to see the sight before him. His instructor held out a hind and Silas, cautiously shook it. "Puuurfect now les' get down ta business shall we?" asked his instructor. "Follow me" and with that his instructor walked down that hall and Silas followed him slowly shaking his head.

Walking out the building the aproached the docks. There were several ships lined up. A cog, and old schooner, and a small four man fishing ship. The ship The crusty old sailor led him to was none of those though. It was tiny, not a ship, barely a boat. It was just a small catamaran.

"we'll start you out on dat, Dont want ta put you in something you obviously cant handle." He said offhandidly as stepped up next to the little 'ship' "Now try not ta go breaking ma mast, or running inta any other ships. Now get on there and raise the mast so we can head out.

Silas was given quite the shock when he saw what they were to be doing his lessons in. But he supposed it was the right vessel to start out with, after all he had just begun his sailing class. Silas shook his head when his teacher wasn't looking. "This thing is absolutley tiny" thought Silas as he hopped into the catamaran. "Oh well at least it works" thought Silas. He looked at the base of the mast and the hinges enabling the sailor to raise the mast.

The Vysstichi grasped the mast and began to hoist it up, it wasn't that heavy surprisingly but nevertheless he still needed two hands to lifet it. After he raised it, he still kept a hand on it to keep it stable, squatting down towards the hinges he made sure that they weren't going to fall and make the mast slam into the boat. When the mast was secure he turned to his teacher. "How's that?" asked Silas.

OOC: lol, I just noticed I typoed and put raise the mast. meant sail. Heh, well no worries I guess, though it makes little sense given the time frame, heh, oops.

IC: After silas somewhat sloppily raised the mast, the old sailor secured the lines that held the mast secure and folded down the boom. It had a plain white sail nothing worth note. it was just your basic triangle sail on an L mast, a pully up top so all one had to do was pull the rope down to raise the sail, tieing the rope on the small hook at the bottomto hold it up.

"Now just raise the sail and we'll be ready ta go, may seem simple but its one of the more important things to succesfull sailin." He grumbled as he undid the docking line and pushed off from the dock.

OOC: Ok whatever but don't you rais the sail on a catamaran? Who am I to know?

IC: Silas nodded at the teacher's order. Grasping the rope that was connected to the pulley that would raise the sail, with both hands he gave it a few heaves and in no time, the sail was raised and they were ready to go. He was about to turn to the Sailor to tell him that he thought they were ready to set sail but then he noticed that the teacher had already done so. "Hmm ok then" thought Silas. Turning around to face the sailor the Vysstichi spoke. "So what now? We should be catching some wind in a minute, at least I think, but I'm not one to say that, you are" said Silas.

"Well first you shoudl learn to pay attention ta the details. Aint no sailor who'd be so foolish as ta have the sail as taught as you got it. Wouldn't catch half the wind, and a strong gust could tear right through the sail. Ya'v got to give it a lil slack so it can gather the wind. Second, we aint just gonna catch a wind.. Ya got a read it line the sail up, you cant just expect the wind ta you, she's a fickle beast and she'll leave those so cocky to think she's at their will dead in the water." He grumbled out in a fairly insulting tone as he loosened the sail a little and pushed off from the dock.

"How bout you test the wind and once you figure out its direction I'll show ya how to line up the sail to actualy utilize that wind." He said as he moved into a comfortable position on the catamaran.

OOC: Whoops forgot about this thread.

IC: Silas listened to the Sailor's instructions. "Yack away all you want old man, I'm just here for sailing classes" thought Silas. Seeing as the sailor slackened the sail for him Silas was just about to relax for a few moments but right when he was about to sit down, the teacher went rambling on again. Silas rolled his eyes. Oh well these things must be done. Dabbing his finger in his mouth Silas held it up in the air waiting to see from which direction the wind was coming from. Standing towards the north Silas fingure quickly dried on the east side.

"If I am correct with my guess, I would say the wind is coming from the east Sir" replied Silas. "For the love of Telath, please keeps these instructions short" thought Silas. The old sailor would probably ramble on some more but the Vysstichi could dream couldn't he?

"heh, well least you got something right. though there are easier more acurate ways to get the wind direction, not really worried about showin ya though, this is jus the basics after all. Now, once ya got the wind direction, you got to line up the sail, an easy task on a ship this small, the basics are the same, just the details of the actual action are difrent." He said as he moved the mast Watching the sail slowly billow out as the wind filled the fabric.

it wasn't a strong wind, but the sail caught it and quickly pulled them out into the water. The old sailor worked the tiller makeing sure they were a distance away from any ships the pup may hit before he let him have his hand at the rudder.

OOC: Ack! I forgot about this thread! My apologies Dimmy.

IC: Silas watched as the wind caught the sail and they ploughed forward farther out. He knew that he wouldn't be getting to steer the boat until they were clear of other ships so he just sat down and memorised what the crusty sailor had said. With that done he looked around him and noticed that they were passing the last of the other vessels. Awaiting for the teacher's instructions to be spoken Silas watched as the sky began to lighten seeing as it was only the seventh candlemark, most of Demios had probably just woken up. Silas yawned and looked into the water waiting for his teacher to instruct him on how to use the tiller.

As silas absentmindedly noted the instructions of his teacher he failed to notice one of the simple facts of life in a coastal city. Though the sun was yet to fully rise, half the ships were allready ready to go heading out from the docks into the deeper water, some of the fishing ships in fact had allready been out for nearly a candlemark. So the harbor was anything but peacefull or empty. It was in fact fairly difficult to find a place where he could allow the whelp to practice.

Luckily all the ships from at least one of the fishing companys were out, leaving a small portion around the docks fairly clear. Moveing a lil, he offered the tiller to Silas. was easist to teach when he knew what it was that he needed to learn, and admittedly it was just fun to watch the whelp screw up.
