Kelpie

Kelie is a saltwater seaweed. A carnivorous form of seaweed, kelpies catch and entangle land animals that venture to close. The kelpie will then crush the creature as would a boa, or simply allow it to drown. The kelpie then cocoons around the body and absorbs all the nutrients, discarding a collection of bones a few weeks later. Once a kelpie reaches a mass of around 50 kilos, it splits in two. With a good supply of victims, and assuming the fish leave it alone, a kelpie can do this two or three times a year. Tribes of coastal orcs have been known to sacrifice victims to kelpies, probably not for religious reasons, but more probably just to keep the kelpie well fed so it does not start going after orcs. Those with a mind for banditry may also want to take note of a local kelpie in case they have a body they need to get rid of.
