Alexander Nighthawk Arrested!
IMPERIAL FORUM, Alleria Prime -- Shortly after Guardian Julos and the Rakrya had addressed the Allerian Empire on plans to reconstitute the nation and establish a political center of gravity under a Rakrya-led Imperial Senate, former regent Alexander Nighthawk interrupted the address and lobbed attacks against the Rakrya. A Sentinel reportedly apprehended Nighthawk and teleported him to an undisclosed location, placing him under arrest.
"He was outrageously foolish," claimed Master Ulwyn, one of the mages comprising the Continuing Committee of the Rakrya Magocracy which now oversees the Allerian Empire. "He had been shown mercy by Guardian Julos back in the Imperial Citadel, and still he repeatedly sought a confrontation with us. The man has a death wish!"
Legal scholars say that Nighthawk, who was operating as Imperial Marshal as he had not been stripped of his military obligations, will likely undergo an Inquisition of the State. With the Rakrya in control of the Imperial Forum and the implements of state power, however, a magical inquisition is unprecedented and could pose serious health risks, officials warn.
"The search for the Truth is never easy," said Dr. K'vron, spokesman for the Empress Alyssa Chrysinaria Hospital and Apothecary in downtown Alleria Prime. "The Rakrya no doubt will want to uncover any plans of treason that the former regent may be hiding. It is obvious he is not to be trusted."
Guardian Julos assured that Alexander Nighthawk will receive a fair trial under Allerian Law, and reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the Imperial Senate convene under a "new age of democracy for the Allerian Empire."

Totally unrelated Kaelon, but what's the Church's stance on the Rakrya?
Anyway ... Nighthawk arrested. Didn't quite see that one coming.

So already free speech is compromised. What other rights under Diana shall be compromised just becuase it stands against their power.

Free speech was an Allerian right? Hmm. Eh, I need to read through the annals of law again. It's been far too long.
In any case, about the 'democracy'... Until recently irl, democracies were feared, and ridiculed. People, ruling themselves? Hah! So, what's up with this coming from the mages? We're still an Empire, after all, and hoping for another divine Ascension to the throne, so I wouldn't think that ANYBODY would want mobocratic, oops, I mean democractic, rule. At least, anybody who actually has ruling power.
After all, the Concordia Incola was an experiment not too long ago...

I have a feeling that this government is going to be evil, and it will only have a short reign.
I can see it now: Alleria Citizens fighting against the Sentinals and evil mages!

Ah, but you're partially incorrect, Zantir. Ancient Athens was a successful democracy over 2500 years ago, and only fell apart because of a nearly three-decade war with Sparta and its allies, not unlike the two World Wars in modern times.
Anyway, I had a strong feeling Julos wasn't to be trusted. When somebody decides he needs to be removed, I'll be up for taking a second government down. We want a Senate, not some egocentric mage psychopath!
Er, I hope the Sentinels aren't watching *every* thread. Rubrecht's Big Brother thread from a while back seems strangely prophetic...

Alex. I believe you were arrested for murder, or attempted murder at least. That has little to do with speech.

Athens might have had a democracy but you couldn't vote if you werent a citizen, man or over thirty years old, so democracy might be stretching it a bit

Perhaps, but it was the first (sorta) democracy, and lasted a rather long time.
I thought Alex had been arrested for something like corruption or something of that sort?

He was arrested merely to demonstrate their power. It had nothing to do with illegal charges, it had everything to do with spreading word of their power. It was for SHOW, people.
Strategically taking out the man who has the Imperial Army loyal to him? You bet.
Making a demonstration that no one (except themselves, but they won't say that) is above the Law.
He was AN EXAMPLE.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
2 birds (nighthawk) with one stone (sentinel).

Well yeah, but the Sentinel said some nonsense about charges. I think that's what he was asking about. The fact that it was utter filth in verbal form, I think, escaped no one.
Hmm, utter filth in verbal form. I like that. I'll have to use it more often, I think. :P

Well the major of the charges for those not following the thread is 397 counts of Attempted murder. When did rain become a murder weapon. And how can the mages be sure I even succeeded with the spell.

Hmmm, so the Rakrya intends to "uncover" these plans through the use of Mystics and their mind-ripping ways, eh? Hardly the sort of conduct one would expect from those who claim that Nighthawk will receive a "fair" trial, nor is it the behavior of a "just" government.....
