Temple of the Blessed Hands [Lhyllis] Joyau Reports for Duty

Joyau flew through the forest until she came to the Temple of the Blessed Hands. She was dressed in one of her new dresses, a blue and green linen, and wore her leather mary janes which she always wore when she was around other races. She did not fly when she was on duty, unless it was important to do so. She landed. The 2'9" sprite then walked into the beautiful Temple. As she looked around, she was enfolded in its mystical peace. The statue that caught her eye was of her goddess, Diana. She moved forward with reverence until she was before her. She knelt and bowed her head. Talking to Diana used to be a daily ritual. Now she was lucky to spend a few hours a week. She prayed her prayers, from her little book, the Path of Three, then sang a hymn in her high sweet voice.

It was going to be an answer to an unspoken prayer that she would daily see her goddess now that she was Head of Medicine and Herbology at the Temple of the Blessed Hands Infirmary. Daily now she could participate in Temple worship. It was even possible that here in Natura she could become a priestess of her goddess. If she could learn the ways of the druids, also, would be a dream come true. That she would explore and perhaps, when she was sure her Goddess would not object, she would find out.

For right now, however, she wanted to meet with the High Priestess of the Temple, Lhyllis. She was eager to start her job of renovating and getting the clinic up to par as the Thane had asked her to do. She hoped the High Priestess would give her some good advice on what she should expect.

She stood up and went back to where the office of the High Priestress was located. Knocking on the door, she straightened her dress and smoothed her hair awaiting the door to be opened.

She knocked the door and almost as soon as she did, there came a voice. It sounded almost releived that someone had knocked, truth be told, and the words were clear and rung out.

"Come in!"

The voice came clearly enough and assuming the Joyau opened the door and entered, there was Lhyllis. She looked up and smiled as Joyau came into the room. THe room itself was rather indicative of Lhyllis ~ it was tidy and neat and yet was piled high with parchments and paperwork. The Telara looked at Joyau from behind this pile of parchments, but she seemed more than cheery enough, in truth. She looked up as Joyau came in and she smiled, in calm greeting. The pile of parchments seemed to not bother her in the slightest as she waved in the latest visitor to her office.

"Serale" she said, and smiled "Welcome, welcome... how can I help you?" she asked, looking at the small sprite with interest....

.... anything was better than trying to wade her way through all this parchment.

Joyau walked into Lhyllis' office with a confidence she did not really feel. She was sure she was bothering her, like she did when she talked to the Thane. She had scooted out of his office as soon as he told her she had the job. She had been so surprised at his offer, she was afraid if she stayed any longer she would have fainted. Such shock had worn off in the day since she saw him, however, she knew that this was primarily an elven city so there were bound to be many elves here she would work with and treat.

Standing in front of Lhyllis' desk she spoke to her in her high clear voice, "Searle, my name is Joyau delaLune. I have been hired by Thane Eventide to take over the supervision of the Temple infirmary. I have written out my resume for you, so you know that I have some hospital and wound healing experience. In my experience I have used herbs, also, and so he said I should also work restocking the infirmary with fresh herbal medications."

She continued on, "As you know, sprites are Diana's children, so we have worshiped her in my village as our primary goddess. I follow the Path of Three, and would like to take part in Temple worship, also. I used to worship every day in my native village. It is a secret village, and I must not talk about it." Joyau she was talking so much she did not give the Priestess any time to reply.

She stood there a minute waiting for Lhyllis to respond and maybe ask her to sit down.

Lhyllis looked at the sprite in some surprise and took a moment to take in what it was that the sprite was saying. For someone so small she was sure able to talk a lot, Lhyllis thought to herself. Mind reeling slightly, she took it in and then nodded

"I see" she said, and looked at Joyau rather.. quizzically "Why don't you sit down, and tell me all of that again, but slower... you're working here now, supervising the Temple Infirmary are you? Well... that's an interesting thing for him to decide. Very well. You can take part in any public worship that you wish, but you can not worship with us in our private worship, that would be for if you were a priestess only... so.. umm.. yes, a resume? That sounds like... " 'more paper' she thought to herself and, true enough, there it was.

Whatever Lhyllis' thoughts were on Joyau walking in having been given a job in the Temple by the Thane, she said no more. "So you are here informing me that you're here... was there anything that you needed?" she asked, politely.

Joyau found a stool and perched on it. "I really don't know where to start, since I am getting used to the idea myself. I would be part of the community here, yet I see you are surprised I am here. I don't even know where the infirmary is."

Joyau was saying to herself, don't tremble, don't talk too much, breathe while she stood there, at a loss of where to go from here without babbling.

She decided to start at the beginning. "I just moved here. I am a healer and went into the Thane's office to ask him to help me found a free clinic in Natura. He said that they really didn't need a free clinic, and instead offered me a job here. I will admit I was shocked, and very surprised to be offered such a responsible position, sight unseen. I left his office without getting any details. I don't even know if I'm getting a salary, since I wasn't expecting a job offer. He did want me to make sure the clinic was up to date with herbal medications, since I am also a herbologist. It has crossed my mind that I might also become a priestess in the temple. What would it take for me to be considered?" Joyau realized she had just done it again, gotten ahead of herself so she abruptly shut her mouth.

Lhyllis looked at Joyau and nodded as the sprite spoke to her. So, the Thane had given her a job here had he? Well, whilst that was theoretically acceptable, he...

Still, that was a different thing and Lyllis looked back to Joyau and smiled slightly. It wasn't the fault of this being in front of her if the Thane had, in Lhyllis' opinion, over stepped his authority.

"Well, before I can fully tell you what it is that your duties will be, I need to speak to the Thane" she said, cheerily enough "After all, he obviously had specific ideas in mind for you when he hired you. However, that notwithstanding, you are most welcome here. I'll show you the infirmary and you can have a look around, spend a brightening or two learning the ropes. I'll go and see the Thane this after-brightening, and I'll come back to you then, alright? How does that sound?"

She smiled in a friendly manner. She did not answer Joyau's question about becoming a priestess, either purposely or by accident, but no answer was forthcoming.

Joyau was sure that the priestess had no idea the Thane had hired her. When she spoke about seeing the Thane before answering the rest of Joyau's questions, she was sure of it.

"I am pleased that you welcome me, and I would be very happy to see the infirmary. I am looking forward to living here also. I understand there is an apartment here for me. Is that also at the infirmary?"

Joyau hadn't pressed the notion of becoming a priestess. Her first priority, the priority she had trained for was healing the sick. Her own life had been put on hold from the time she decided to leave her home.

She waited for the priestess to show her where the infirmary was, as well as her new home.
