The underground market was located just outside of Har'oloth. It resided within a single cave outside the boundaries of the city. The cave was accessible only by a group of five tunnels. These could be found in various locations of Har'oloth ( such as
Gioland's Printing and Forgeries,
Elggur's Slave Market,
the Raven Club,
The Apothecary's Galenicals, and a smaller, cave within the western portion of Har'oloth). These entrances ended within corresponding shops within the marketplace. The Market was located on the first plane of Har'oloth and was open to all those that wish to use it.
The cavern contained dozens of buildings, all shops and stands of various types. All of them sold goods or provided services that were considered illegal or at least slightly questionable – by surface standards. The Shadow Market had a central avenue that spanned the width of the cave. The road was paved and completely surrounded by buildings. The street was lined with arcane streetlights that burned with a strange blue flame. They covered the cave in an eerie night. Several little side streets winded their way in between the shops and vendor areas.
The streets were patrolled by a group of guards commissioned by the keepers of the market, to maintain a basic order. All were well trained and mages of some skill level. They wore, as uniforms, black full plate armour. The guards were not there to enforce the laws but to make sure that the basic terms of use that the market had established are kept. They would not persecute and would not enforce the laws of the outside world. They merely watched over the market. They only acted when the market itself was involved or trade in any way was obstructed. Thievery and other crimes, including personal matters were the responsibility of the people involved. Merchants and patrons alike were informed of this upon entry to the market.
The guards protected the entrances to the market in groups of eight. Their exact was unknown due to their impecable stealth and magic abilities. They remained invisible until their services were required. They did not discriminate against anyone that wished to do business and would allow anyone passage into the cave within reason.
A central square housed an open market of sorts. Surrounding a rather large fountain, were various stands and booths. Roaming vendors, that sold a plethora of items, were mostly found here, although they could also be found elsewhere within the market.
The large fountain was sculpted from onyx. The black stone reflecting the blue light of the street lights, and the lights from the various shops, covered a sizeable portion of the central square. Its clear waters cascaded down from a statue of a vysstichi rogue, whose bag was open and carried his goods. He also had a ruby dagger with him. An imperial guard or soldier appeared to be at his feet. It was a reminder of the purpose of the market and why it had been established.
The shops themselves varied from building to building. Each had its own individual facades, complimenting their individual decors and themes.
Great stone pillars could also be found. They had been formed by giant stalactites that had formed abnormally round shapes. Each pillar was about fifteen feet in diameter and extend from the floor to the ceiling. They seemed to be used as a means of support for the immense cave.
