Inside the Great Sewers

The Great Sewers are an extensive underground network of stone tunneling that carries the effluence of the city of Aelyria Prime to the River Ioannes.

Early in the First Empire, Empress Michelle ordered the draining of the marshy swampland outside the gates of Old Prime, the original boundaries of Aelyria Prime, to create an extensive sewer system known as the Great Sewers. As one of the earliest engineering achievements of the Capital City, the Great Sewers flushed runoff from the city streets into the [wiki]Ioannes River. Engineers also used the sewers' underground pipeline to drain the marshland between Aelyria Prime's hilly surroundings. On that clearing would be built the Forum, the downtown centralized and unified political and cultural meeting place for the Empire.

Aqueducts

Public fountains in the city of Aelyria Prime are supplied by eleven aqueducts that channel water to the Capital City; this continuing running water helps ensure to remove wastes and keep the Great Sewers clear of obstructions. The Aqueducts also help divide the waters into two general qualities: the upper tier, reserved for potable drinking supplies, and the lower tier, used for baths.
