THE COURT

DESCRIPTION: Standing stoically over the eastern quarter of the city is a large stone building, capped with a smooth ancient dome, central tower and ranging spires. It is piece of antiquity that remains timeless and built to reflect not only power but grace and intelligence. This basilica is called the Court and houses the city offices, city council as well as the chambers of the chief magistrates. Once a governor's palace, these rooms reflect a history and culture bred to overcome the harshest of environments and threadbare necessities of life. Built with classical ambition, it's pillars, buttresses and cathedralesqe stone halls utilize cold rock intersegmented with the wealth of dominant rule. Marble and elegantly woven tapestries compliment the echoing heights, towering torches and candelabras which keep it's dark halls rich and full of light. Windows of thickly pained glass offer vibrant well placed ports of natural brightness as the upper halls of the dome provide access to the roof and omnidirectional rays of sunlight. The Aedile attendance is to the west wing, as the Justicar, Exchequer and offices of law to the right. The Thane's throne room and "court" stand beneath the monumental circular hall which gives originally gave the building it's name and bearing. A viewing gallery opens up onto the second level of the dome as the private offices of the Thane, his officials, the chief magus, imperial functions and dining halls of the government representatives. Behind the convening of the court stands the completely circular private manor of the residing Thane. It is ringed with pillars and nine spires which though do not pierce the sky beyond the basilica's strength yet stand out of their own right and merit. A beautiful elven bridge connects the two compounds while earthen craftsmanship may forge links of craftier passage. The eastern section of the city is traditionally the wealthiest and that of merit. Nobles of Lauryl, affluent Houses and Merchant families call this quarter home, following in the tradition of their elders. Clay and stone stucco roofing offset the traditional northern wood shingled, and thatched structures of the Mercantile and western sections of Frigid. Here much of the roads and alleyways are crafted using interlocking stone or cobbled granite. It is a quieter and leaner repose with simple words slipping through the complexities of high ridged structures.

Aerengal Aetherwine (Arch Magus)

Secrets : Name: Aerengal Aetherwine Race & Gender: Human Age: Unknown Physical Description, History & behavior: Mired with age and experience, the newly appointed Magus of Frigid River is somewhat of an enigma. Bearing a wistful gray beard and an almost placated yet sinister approach, old master Aerengal is creature of dangerous habit. Clothed in long ornate robes of black with a thin silk skull cap, Aetherwine's body is quietly hunched supported by the occasional stave or otherworldly shoulder. Time Stamp: 2nd Brightening of Cryaxtum, Early Afternoon

Before pleasure their was buisness to be done, that was purchasing a building for her and Anora's tavern. The town of Frigid River was quant and their was not much competiton. Her husband had the primary buisness in Trysvale and was making a great amount of coin with his glass imbued balls. It was time that Elmaryia Grey Leonard had something of her own. A kind stranger had instructed her to go to the Court with her request to purchase a building.

Heeding that request after sometime Elmaryia had entered the building. The interior of the building was regal and beautiful particularly the ceiling. For a moment Elmaryia looked up and took in its beauty.

I bet the clerks and the starch collars can spot the tourist, the thought amused her and with a chuckle Elmaryia walked on. Still a wide eyed curious girl.

After sometime Elmaryia had found the west wing of the rather large building and approached one of the clerks. " Greetings I wish to speak to the Adiele as I am interested in purchasing a building for buisness," poilte and to the point the young woman was.

29th Cryxatum, Mid Afternoon.

There were many things about The Court building that Atlus liked, one being it was not hard to find. Another positive about the construction is that from the outside it looked like he might actually have room to stand inside. If not a shallow crouch would do...

He had asked around and the direction from the Inn to The Court were fair and true. A mamoth building (In human eyes) holding the inner circles of the whos who of human government around Frigid River. Atlus ducked past the large front doors of the building and was pleased to see that he in fact could stand inside.

He knew he would be quickly pointed out from the usual traffic of The Court. Instead of spending hours hunting and pecking for whom he was looking for the Giant merely let every one know in hearing distance who and what he wanted.

"There someone to talk to about buying some land around here?" Atlus didnt shout nor did he come close to what he thought was a yell. He simply projected his voice to the point that made him feel comfortable people could hear him. Not wanting to make much more of a scene he stood there with his pack of tools and belongins slung around his shoulder.

Alaric took a moment after his short speach to admire the handy work of the ceiling.

Elmaryia

A thin, pale skinned medonian elf wearing black mascara painted on as wings strode forward revealing a low cut sparkling gown of slate, violet and green. She beckoned smoothly with her left arm then let the limb trail as her attire did so behind her gait. Following the woman Mrs. Grey exited a long corridor into a spacious and well furnished room that overlooked the city scape effortlessly.
Sitting behind the desk in a dry gesture the female elf blinked as if waiting for the guest to speak first then broke suit.

"Serale young lady. Specifics please. Namely usage, approximate size and location.. price range. Call me Kell Clover."

The luxurious female facing the inquisitive questioner battered her eyelashes as if they simply weighted to much for her poor smoothly shapen face.

Striding boldly towards the giant with not an ounce of fear a fragile darkhaired Elfkin poised below him with a faint bow.

"Serale Giant. I am Kell Clover, senior Aedile here.. In charge of buying land."
She smiled coyly.
"What is it you seek and for what usage mighty master?"

The words fell cool, simple yet refined and not entirely without joy. Her dancer's gestures made the motion of the question feel vaguely theatrical but only in the slightest of fashion.

[Atlus Wunderhof]

Atlus' gaze dove from the madgjesty of the ceiling down to Kell's smug face. Atlusmajesty gave her his usual smirk, his clan was never known to be sociable right off the bat. His vision slowly drifted back to the impressive architecture of the roof.

"Serale." He said through nearly imparted lips. "There is land north of the River Lylles that touches the face of the great mountains. I hope to make a new home for me and my people there. "The giants face lightens a bit and he points up to the ceiling "If you were to lash that shaft tightly to the other it would stop that spider web crack from getting any worse ." His eyes peered forward as if they would pop out of his head to get a closer look. He smiled. "If you have some men get scaffolding that high I could make a mortar to at least cover it up." Atlus looked down and smirked again at Kell, more innocent this time. "It might take a while to dry but something of the same color could be done."

The elf's were such a graceful species that held an incredible poise never in her life would Elmaryia Grey Leonard achieve such a feat. Following the elven beauty garbed in a fabric of stars, Elmaryia took in the sights of the building and her office. My how the former slave had changed into a beautiful butterfly.

Sitting down, Elmaryia got right down to the buisness of the matter. " I wish for a building for a tavern. Preferably a building that has two large rooms as each room of the tavern shall have its own theme. My price range is fifteen thousand crowns. It shall be quite unique and I believe that it will be an excellent way to bring in tourism to the city. Though it would be preferable to not spend such a high amount. As I will need some revenue for decorating, but then again I can get some funds from my husband."

With a nod of her fair head, Kell placed her hands together on the desk and responded in her honey toned voice that seemed to breathe the air of sophistication and refinement. "Do you have a specific area in Frigid River in mind for your tavern Miss...?" She arched her delicate brow and paused just long enough to hear her response.

"And are you in want of land at all?" Her teal eyes crowned by the layer of long thick lashes fell as her gaze descended down her client's form before her lashes rose again until she was once again looking back into Mrs. Leonard's eyes. Kell leaned forward. "Please forgive me if I am being too presumptuous but I cannot help but worry that such a place as a tavern run by such a delicate flower as yourself may be asking for trouble... Do not get me wrong, many citizens are civilised but there also is the wild and wanton variety that lurk here..."

Afraid she had said too much and scared the poor darling away, Kell brought her hand up to her temple and gave a polite smile. She then spoke in a forced tone of reassurance. "I am sure we will be able to find you something appropriate that will fit your price range and since you will be giving back to the community I will personally find you the nicest building I can under your budget." Kell offered her client an elegant smile.

Little scared Elmaryia Leonard for she had faced much trials and had succeeded in overcoming them all. If men challenged her and tried to take what she worked for then she would deal with it. " If need be then we shall have security. However during my time here I have enjoyed the city. For it does offer a dangerous beauty. For the building I can spend about twenty thousand crowns. It is proferable that the building be in a better part of town, and have two large rooms and kitchen and a foye. For each room shall have its own theme. It shall be a grand place. Also I may need a loan of 100,000 crowns for supplies such as furnature and to decorate the establishment, and pay staff. My partener shall also be comming in the summer to get a loan if needed. I belong to a large house and am Imperial Consul of Carmelyn so I am sure many of my family and friends shall come."

Standing up Elmaryia returned the elegant smile and awaited for Kel to show her some deeds or building's that were available for purchase.

Kell inclined her head and once Mrs. Leonard had finished speaking she gave her client an amiable smile. "Oh well, now that I think of it, I actually do know of a place that I think fits what you are after." She reached for a loose parchment situated in a near order upon her desk and wrote down an address before handing the slip of parchment over the desk to her with an explanation. "It is at the crossroads between the Mercantile district and the Elder Pines. I am sure you will find that it has all that you require..." She paused "yes it is a simply beautiful building. I think with the right person it could really shine like a jewel."

The refined Elf's hand reached into her desk drawer and returned into view with a large folder filled with parchments. She reached for her quill and ink and in a business like tone and her eyes fixed upon the business plan she brought forth from the folder, Kell spoke as her hand filled in the details she already knew: Population and Competitors. She then paused as her eyes glanced up at her client "Number of patrons you expect to have?" Her hand hovered next to the question she had just given verbal life to.

"Average amount of patrons per brightening?"

"Average cost each patron will spend?"

"And thus, average income per month?" Kell paused "This is worked out from the last two questions stated..."

"What are your business expenses? Routine costs, Supplies, building maintenance, staff costs.."

"Additional costs and incidentals? What entertainment costs will you have? You might want to prepare for brawls in your establishment..." Kell gave a faint humourless smile.

She then wrote down 100 000 crowns Mrs. Leonard had requested for the bank loan and spoke again, her eyes not leaving the parchment. "What will be your repayment schedule, monthly? When do you expect to have the loan paid off? How much will you pay each time? What will be and how much will your start up costs be individually? And thus, the total sum to vindicate this loan?"

Kell then brightened upon reaching the last question. "And what are your profits? Your average monthly profit minus yours expenses and this bank loan's monthly repayment..."

Upon hearing Mrs. Leonard's final answer, Kell handed the document over for her to check with her own eyes and then sign her name at the bottom of it. "And I take it you will use this building as your collateral, yes? And please do not forget to write in your residential details, there, at the top of the page. I will add your business address when you find the establishment you wish to purchase. And please let me know if your details change."

She then gave a brazen smile. Her eyes were alight with mischief. "For if you do not pay the loan by the agreed upon time bounty hunters will track you down..." The seriousness of her threat could not be missed.

Of course Elmaryia did not expect the woman to hand over such a high sum of crowns without a business plan, and while she did not have a head for figures Anora did. After all she was a vineyard's daughter, and in turn knew a great deal of a successful business. The location sounded lovely that Kell explained and, Elmaryia was sure that in the middle of the town would be excellent to bring in customers. A refined tavern it would be, and Elmaryia and Anora would reap the rewards of their hard work.

" That sounds like a wonderful location Miss Kell, and I am sure that it will be a prime spot to bring in customers. Now I have a document that has the business plan in full written down. I am sure that all of your questions shall be answered in this document."


With that said she removed her document from a leather bond book and slid it out and placed it infront of Kells on the desk.

" While their will be slight competition none of the taverns here are like the one that we shall be offering, also in regards to the loan. I shall be paying ten thousand crowns minimum a month and perhaps higher according to how much income I make from the establishment. Now here is the prepared business plan."

We'll assume El takes a 100 grand loan and Anora takes a 110 grand loan. They pay monthly installments of 10 grand each. (220,000 initial startup costs) (30,000 a month expenses) Profits: Income (117,000) minus operating costs (20,000) minus loan payment (10 grand) For the first 6/10 months profits will be 87,000 a month. So Anora and Elmaryia will receive 43,500 a month. After 8/12 months profits will be 97,000 a month and each will receive 48,500 a month.

Kell's Elven eyes scrolled over the documentation Elmaryia passed to her. When she had reached its end she gave a nod accompanied by a smile. "Everything seems in order my dear. Leave this with me and I will fill in the necessary details to pass on to the bank for you. Sign and date and then we are done. Ten percent will be added to your loan, total of your loan will therefore be 110 000."

"Once you have viewed the building return to me and I shall present to you the loan and your new deed, oh and from memory the building you have the address for is worth 8 500 crowns"

Kell stood in a smooth graceful motion and presented her client with a smile that could only be described as a picture of elegance. "Is there anything more I can help you with?"

If a no was sounded, Kell would then walk Mrs. Leonard to the door.

First Cycle of the Month of Ioannes in the season of Summer; Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum.

A letter arrived brought by an Imperial Legionnaire dressed in Black Armor, a Black Shield he would be recognized as if anyone had heard rumors of the Sherian War.

To: His Grave, Lord of Frigid River From: Eyvind Redbeard Avornmagor Björnsson, Kestor Imperatis and Governor of the Confederation of Sherian Ref: The dangers of the Kingdom towards our beloved Empire Serale, Your Grace. It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter to you. It seems our Empire has suffered a most terrible attack. The returning Ancient Aelyrians have taken command of the central government and the Regent instead of denying them willingly let them in. All this situation resembles a velvet coup to me as the very Regent was declared Prince of what is now the Kingdom of Aelyria. As a sworn officer to the Imperial Legions, the Empire and the People of this realm I cannot let such attrocity continue and I am preparing myself and my armies for what may very well be the largest war we have ever seen if the Kingdom doesn't surrender and let the Empire be. I urge you to be prepared. I know your city doesn't possess the resources to gather an army to come to what could very well be my rescue since the forces loyal to the Kingdom and that betray the Empire grow with every passing Brightening, but it would be a weight out of my conscience if you and your people prepare for the worse and stay true to the Empire.
