THREE OAKS ARCHERY SHOP

DESCRIPTION:

Nestled into the Mercantile District, a welcoming rustic tudor building stands firmly at the end of a quiet cul de sac. Moss covered shingles compliment worn beams boasting beautiful decay while it's arched front door lies open to the summer air. An aging ranger shows a young boy how to string and maintain a yew bow on the awaiting bench, while two able trackers stand aside the doorframe arguing over distance and wood grains. Foresters, hunters, rangers, sellswords and the odd soldier drift between it's entry, intent on finding that perfect compliment to steady their aim or better their shot.
Strangely or not, a fullblooded wolf haunts it's laquored floorboards while gazing coldly up at each passing purchase. Stepping into the workshop the beast meanders past stalls of unshaven ash, cedar, hickory and horse apple shafts. Feathers awaiting fletching are plucked and fitted nearby, while the oiled nut and trigger of a cracked crossbow lay naked ready to be mended. Two elves tend to this store room as does a single dark haired human. The auburn male and dirty blond female elf both look up as the beast arrives, working in silence while their short lived counterpart laughs idly at his own sense of humour. In the winter only the old long haired proprietor awaits behind closed doors, his timeless age be streaked gray while sloped ears are dotted each with a silver ring. A thick handmade leather patch crests a band round his skull, while woven strips interlace and cover the left socket.

The main foyer of the building is lined with hanging bows of various shades, shape and assortments as tables, racks, cabinets and shelves hold crossbows, quarrels, bolts, arrows and far more exotic wares and accessories. There is a single painting above the far right wall of a winter hunt, it's image bearing that of a wolf fighting off ten hunters through flat, dry almost two dimension personage. The Three Oaks is called that partially due to the center arena of the street holding a single gracious tree, it's history finding tale of two others now cut and plained into the floor and ceiling. The name is posted proudly along the ceiling beam while three acorns dot a hanging green crested sign above.
Squirrels and fowl still flock to the shop's sagging chimney and shingles, finding ample area to hide food and build nests. In the summer months to spring and autumn the living oak out front has it's branches hung with various tapestries and streams of cloth, signifing the symbology of the current holiday or sacrificial ceremony.

Behind the shop, the buildings have broken down into a small yard, but most practictioners take their target shots at the well maintenanced range beyond the city gates. This length stands on the fairgrounds but a stone's throw beyond the meet where passing gypsies tether their wagons. It is gauged for distance and windage by tassles tied to staggered fenceposts every 10 feet. The targets are wide and precise with well painted red to white rings surrounding a black center. Others hang from tree boughs, harder to hit but worth twice the coin from the locals.

Being a necessary resource for not only the Frigid River Rangers, but also every yeoman from farmer to Thane's son, Three Oaks finds it's self constaintly dedicated to supporting it's community not only as a means of survival but also as a sport and way of life.
