This city doors lay wide and open..

Nestled firmly above the formidable expanse of snow and stone chiselled into the summit of the High Peak Mountains lies a reclusive relief known by rogues, rangers, adventurers and wanderers as Frigid River. To some that may mean but the name of a forgotten body of water, lost to the cold and unflinching altitude. To others.. say the words and they immediately brighten knowingly, each one has been and can attest to it's worth and merit. To them it's a village, a place time forgot and a community bound together by an overwhelming desire to survive and overcome the hardship of their climate and condition. People here, they know each other.. by name, first, last and the other. What they say about Frigid is this.. you run from your past but you stay for your future. It is a place humble and welcoming, secretive and daunting.
welcome to Frigid River.

Location:
Founded by outlaws and bandits, Frigid River was originally a ramshackle of pine hunting lodges and alehalls. It was a vista for fugitives, wanted men, miners and opportunists. Over time the welcoming bastion became a crossroads for trade, a meeting point grudgingly or not for a variety of races ranging from human, dwarf to elf and the odd giant.
The city is named after it's main source of life, a wide channel of frigid waters that provide sustinance for not only it's inhabitance but the entire province as well, as any native born son or daughter would proudly inform you. The waters pull cool and heavy from the reaching expanse of piercing rock above it's borders, as the wide channel glistens over slate and stone, on it's bounding merry way downstream to Lake Melody in the south and Centripax Province to the distant southeast. Salmon can be found flipping above it's deep carven current as heavy cedar and pine trees line the foundation of the mountain on either edge.
Built in the meadowy basin of the mountain summit, Frigid River now boasts well crafted timber construction, stone walkways, a church and a carved archway of heavy cedar wood indicating the entrance to it's fair grounds. The streets are wide and built of dwarven stone, while the foundations are smooth and graced by the touch of elves. Blanketing the outskirts of the risen north a chorus of chimney smoke billows from shacks of pine and loose timber. The poor and exiled still reside, free to live in anonymity but for a little hard work and kinship in return. The people here are quite protective of their own, and crime has found an gentle equalibrium with the community and leaders now residing.
Things are peaceful here, calm, resolute and sparklingly mysterious.
To the southeast of the ajoining valley, the old graveyard is being relocated farther away from town, giving much more room to expand and grow while the lumber mills and miners to the southwest toil in simple, steady strokes, clearing the land and providing wealth and bounty to sustain their city coffers.
Through the short summers grains are harvested on the plains of the shimmering meadows below while livestock roam the valley fattening up for the long hard winters ahead. Trade and trapping is a way of life here, as is mining for gold and silver in the river's sway and under rocky craig. Rangers roam the steep mountainside forests, alleviating danger and warning of oncoming storms and drifts.
Timber and brick fortifications have only recently started to be resurrected, as most of the village lies bare to the surrounding landscape, it's formidable ancient ramparts laid waste to ravage. The heavy forest holds the weather at bay giving freedom for an open air bazaar in the space between the fifteen or so stable businesses operating in the River and the Elder Pine District to the west and northern plateau.
The Imperial Military has all but departed to aid the ongoing Sheria war effort, while the city's loyal cadre of greycloaked rangers remains ever faithful and diligent at her borders and doorsteps.
The hotsprings to the north east are one of the township's main attractions, especially during the cold winter months. The city's resident healer lives here, encouraging rumor of the medicinal power of it's geothermal heat and enchanting legend.
