City Gates [Self/Peer Mod]

In the northern reaches of Lauryl Province, in a tranquil meadow near the cool shadows of the High Peak Mountain range, lies the beautiful town of Frigid River. This town is named for the very cold river it borders, which is the source of most, if not all, of the water in Lauryl Province. To the east of lies the river, a wide channel in which ice-cold water burbles and chuckles over weathered gray rocks, splashing merrily on its way downstream to Lake Melody in the south and Centripax Province to the southeast. Large, healthy fish leap from the river and perform acrobatic flips before returning to their home waters. Some have scales of white or silver, while the scales of others flash iridescent in the morning sunshine. Clearly, this is an ideal spot for anglers.

Approaching the town over the wide, flower-strewn meadows, a rising can be seen; a giant archway made of weathered gray stone. The spray and river mist have slowly eaten away at this edifice, which stands at fifteen feet tall and six feet wide. Under the archway, a path formed of white marble brickwork begins, leading into the city proper. Following the path, Frigid River is only a short walk away. Frigid River's walls however showed signs of their recent construction, the ground itself still heavily dug up in places, the dirt piled up and covering ground with ivy and lichen torn down en mass.

Between the two walls, housing was being built and the land itself dug up as construction teams worked upon detailed maps often under the scrunity and care of Dwarves who knew better about this kind of work than the Humans who worked alongside. The Sewers had been dug up, and their scent lingered on the air and in the early mornings the ground was hard with a thin layer of ice on the more bitter of mornings that took until midday to melt sufficiently. Fish...the scent was everywhere, though thank Ioannes usually in a cooked nature except in the south side of the city where the smell was obnoxious.

It was here that some of Frigid River's Rangers were stationed to allow, or ward off unwelcome visiters to the city. Garbed in the greys and drab greens and greys of the Rangers, the guards themselves tended to be Human for the main with a few Dwarves and even Hobbits known to linger. Of Elves there was a handful... but Dorin, Katta, Dracon, Orc...none. At least, not within with the Rangers.

The city stretches out like a wheel, the streets made of a smooth, light-gray stone like that of the archway, with the occassional pathway of white marble offering itself, like white veins through the body of the city. The path leads forward for several moments, then abruptly splits off into several divergent paths. The center path leads onwards into the center of town, while other white-marbled paths lead off to the southeast, the southwest, the northeast, and the northwest.

Dispatch to the Soldiers of Frigid River

Let it be hereby known, that from this brightening forward, all passage in and out of the City of Frigid River shall be logged. The gatehouse will be supplied with a log book in which certain information will be reiceved from all persons entering and or leaving. Those citizens that travel through the gates daily or commonly will only be logged once.

Name: (Visa must be checked)
Entrance Date:
Exit Date: (If Necessary)
Purpose of Visit: (Resident?)

A guard will now be permanently assigned as The Chronicler, and will be solely incharge or logging said entries. Each month the log book will be taken to the Archives and transferred into a permanent book for the Archives.

To compensate for the extra duties, the pay of gate guards will be raised by three crowns. Though it is slight, its all our coffers can allow at this time.

Thank You,
Pirvan Kaldres.
OOC: You may self mod your arrival to Frigid River. If you wish, you can PM me and have me mod the entrance if you have concerns or reasons for this. Otherwise, assume the guard asks you for the information requested in the Dispatch. PLEASE TIMESTAMP YOUR ENTRANCE! (This will serve to tell the guard the "entrance date" -- you don't have to tell him yourself as long as you TIMESTAMP your arrival. Thank you!

TS: Some time during the winter (will get a better TS when everything is all settled.

IC: It had taken the Vysstichi a while to get to FR, it wasn’t his destination, but then again he didn’t really have one he just set out to leave Vortex. Traveling only by night he inescapably came to Frigid River during a very dark hour. He was at first faced with a wall that had some patchwork with…dirt. They Vysstichi shook in the cold, he had on his basic clothing and a dark fur cloak to keep him warm. He wasn’t used to the cold and needed to get in somewhere warm…anywhere at all would do. It’d beat sleeping in some abandon cave or in the hollows of a fallen tree. They were getting harder and harder to find anyhow and this might be Lyzanders last chance to enter a city before he passed away. He knew about the bias that many cities had and didn’t think that he’d be able to just walk in so he started walking all around the wall. In the darkness he found the entrance but there was a guard and a little light. He approached staying in the shadows quietly. He was very near to the guard but he could see no way of getting in. He crouched for candle marks until he heard the sound of horses and a caravan. They stopped at the gates talking to the guard. Perhaps this was Lyzanders chance…he could sneak in the back. He was about to make his move when he heard the guard say loudly “I need ta’ check the baggage make sure there aint no stowaways.” The guard walked around the back of the cart opening up a curtain and looking in. He laughed and walked to the front of the cart saying friendly words to the driver. It was obvious that the two knew each other. Lyzander took this time to get to the wagon and jump in the back hiding. There was a stench in the back, one that he didn’t like one that stung his nose. It was fresh green produce but he never knew of such a thing. He was used to eating mushrooms and meat nothing green. But he stayed in the wagon as it moved threw the city getting out when it slowed down. He held his cloak close to him freezing to the point of almost passing out he started wandering the streets…
