Wondering the City [OPEN - MOD PLEASE]
Lanx began his trek through the city, knowing what he was looking for but the Dorin would soon find out if he was unwelcomed. He walked up the streets, passed many shops, passed many people, but what he came here to do was find training, arcane training at that. He looked the city over more and more, trying to figure out if arcane training was even to be found in this city, if not, he would settle with the purchasing of a good double bladed sword, then gain training with that sword.
Following what his packmembers said before he left, Remember Lanx, its a dangerous place out there, follow your heart, be true to yourself and those around you, only then will you find what you seek. He never understood what that saying meant but he kept thinking of it, hoping to figure out what it means.
Lanx finally tired of looking, he slowly walked up to a person just walking on the streets, "Serale, I seek training in the arcanes, could you help me?"

ooc: Sorry for the wait Lanx, I didn't see this thread till you bumped it... If you don't get a reply from me after that long next time, just gimme a PM and I'll make sure the thread gets looked after.
ic: Frigid River was a rather tolerant town, not having any specific predjudaces against the dorin as a race. Well, none more than any other average town in the Empire. There was one bias which in recent time had plagued the population of this small militarily inclined town; arcana. After the aetherfracture, arcana had not come across to the typical resident of the cold river in any semblance of good light. For those who had lived here a while, they would remember the flood. Not a flood of water as one would expect. Such a thing was minor in proportion. No, this was a flood of the sewers.
Before the aetherfracture, Frigid River's sewer system had enjoyed a very efficient; dumping, emptying, and cleaning process curtesy of arcane technology. When the aethergem broke, so did the enchantment. Over the next could eras, the fecal matter piled up until finally one day it overflowed. Having your entire hometown covered in excrement because of a magical failure did not exactly make anyone terribly happy about arcana in general. Since that time the school had closed down, and the only place that would ever offer training would be the Church of Faith, and only in their chosen sphere of Dianite thaumaturgy.
As Lanx walked down the street, it was a rather gruff looking dwarf which was the first to hear the dorin's words. A somewhat astounded look on his face, he responded...
"Aye! I dunno what city ye think yer been in right now ya furry little bugger, but go somewhere else if you be wantin' ta learn theh magics. Blasted waste of time they are I'd say, and glad when the mages tower finally shut down!"

Lanx looked at the dwarf with disgust, "Furry little bugger? Did you make that up all on your own? My my your a cute kid, might I ask where your parents are, I'm sure they are worried about you." Lanx couldn't help but snicker at his rude comments, his intentions were not to be rude but when insulted, his first response is to insult back. "Mages tower shut down?" Then he remembered the stories, "Aye, the aethergem fracture, yes I remember the stories now. Well I guess I will search for someone to teach me magic the way they have learned since then." He knew from what the dwarf had recently said then this comment would send him off the handle.
Lanx remembered his tribe and how their magic was powerful but was only learned because one of the members ventured out to gain the training then returned to teach those that desired it. It was not the field he desired so he waited till the time he could learn of another type.
Lanx looked at the dwarf then around the streets. He awaited the rudeness of the dwarf to go even further.
OOC: Tis ok, my player advisor said FR had no GM so I just assumed that remained the case. Glad to see someone is moderating here now and no worries, PM next time I shall.

Obviously Lanx had not been in the company of many dwarves in his lifetime. The dwarf with which he spoke now was not outright being rude, simply talking exactly how many dwarves talk. Almost all members of the species speak as if they are superior to all others. Not so much as the elves, but still rather cocky and condescending. Other than people touching their beards, there is only one thing that few dwarves will put up with. An inferior race making smartass comments about their intelligence.
As the Lanx continued to speak, the dwarf looked increasingly angry, as if he was holding back from outright attacking the dwarf. Skill in restraint was another trait not too common among dwarves. Only a fraction of a second after the dorin finished speaking, he was being attacked. The dwarf; just passing four feet tall, managed to throw a surprisingly powerful punch his eye level, making contact with Lanx's lower abs. A human would have been dropped to the ground by the blow, as dwarves are known for their strength, but dorin have a little more ressillience against such things. The blow hurt, and caused the dorin's muscles to buckle, but otherwise he was fine. No lasting damage to speak of.
"Arrrrhhk! Ye be wantin' t'make suthin' o this ye overgrown puppydog?!?" the dwarf yelled, obviously ready to continue the fight at a moments notice.

Lanx grabbed his abs and rubbed them, "Oh so you wanna trade punches you little nimwit." Lanx then pulled back but stopped, "Aye, I cannot fight you dwarf as it goes against my tribal teachings and how I was raised. Please accept my apology, I meant no harm, I am just not used to being around other races. I only look to gain training with a sword and possibly gain a specific sword of interest." Lanx was hoping the dwarf would calm down, he would defend himself if he must but he did not wish to make a scene first time in this fair city.

When Lanx backed down the dwarf actually looked even more like he wanted to beat the snot out of the dorin. He probably would have tried if not for two new arrivals. Unnoticed by the slightly distracted combatants, two city guards had walked up; one on each side, to the pair.
"Is there a problem here citizens?" the ranking soldier said in a very gruff and official tone; a sergeant by the looks of him.
At that moment the dwarf's courage was cut in half. He'd pick a fight with a citizen, but going against the city guard was just dumb. Even if he managed to get away they would undoubtably end out looking for him. Being a fugitive wasn't exactly something the average person wished upon themself. Glaring as if daggers would fly from his own eyes into Lanx's, the dwarf turned away.
"No problem here officers! I've gotta get going back home anyways, dinners waiting." and without another word, the proportionally incorrect man was gone.
"So, dorin." the second soldier said, a human corporal who spoke in slightly less a stern tone as his superior, "Looking to learn how to use a sword are ya? If you are interested, the military might have you. You look to have a strong back and able arms. We can always use more muscle."

Lanx listened as the dwarf spoke, then at his departure, "See you around gruffy." Then looking to the guard, "Sorry, just a misunderstanding between the dwarf and I." Once the guard mentioned sword training with the military he thought for a moment, Military? Would I fit with the military, a dorin? "Aye, military sounds about right, where do I sign up and what must I do to gain acceptance to the ranks? I was originally looking to gain the skills of a magic user but if I can learn the proper way to use a sword and defend myself then I shall join the ranks."

The soldier chuckled at Lanx's response. A little dramatic, but still effective.
"Yeah, closest place around here that provides any real magic training would be in Mystique, but you don't want to go there... Bloody bastards they are there, not nearly as friendly as most of Frigid River. We are after all a resort town for the nobles." the younger soldier stated, but was interupted by the ranking NCO.
"Alright Corporal. That's enough. We've gotta get back to work now." the Sergeant said, the same impationate and official tone plaguing his tone, then turning to Lanx. "Aight, if you wanna look into joining the ranks... Just head down that way. The new recruiter's office is just next to the main military office headquarters. Now we've gotta get back to our patrols. I bid you a nice day citizen."
As if on a dime both soldiers spun and continued their march down the street, their arms obviously tired of carrying the large tower shield which was the standard compliment. It seemed it had been a long day.

Lanx chuckled a bit but stopped abruptly when the NCO started talking, "Yes sir, thank you." As they marched away he thought for a moment, Can't believe I'm gonna join the military, oh well, nothing worse than not having a job.
He proceeded down the street to the Recruiters Office.
