Career Decision (Private: Veleraen)
Parreyon had no reason to contemplate his decision to ask Vel to join him in the Sel'Rakrya. The moment he had been offered the position in Milo's private office, he knew this was the right man for the job. The only problem would be finding a proper office that could be used for a giant who stood twelve feet tall.
Parreyon had wanted to bring Vel into the picture as a sidekick with the two of them running then empire bringing all sorts of bad guys to justice. This move changed things a little bit in that Parr would have to do a lot of set up for the Sel'Rakrya continuing to get them established while Vel would be able to go after the bad guys right out of the gate. Parr wanted Vel leading the knight group and there was no other candidate he could imagine to do the job that would have the same credential's that Vel would bring.
sitting in his new office as Imperial Inquisitor, Parreyon sat patiently in his chair for the message that Vel was outside waiting. Being a giant, Vel and Parr would have to go for a walk to communicate his ideas and a strole through the imperial compound around the Imperial Legions seemed the perfect place.

Mid brightening, 4th Brightening of the 1st cycle of Immanis, in the Season of Spring, Era II of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIV Post Fractum, the Second Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne.
Veleraen had been on his rounds of the Imperial Grounds with two squires who were learning the brightening by brightening goings on of the Knights. It was monotonous work, the only real excitement being in the end of the brightening where one got to sleep. Even then, there were evening shifts and Veleraen had taken apart of many of those as well.
He had been telling them of their future duties and the oath that they would have to swear one brightening when a runner approached him, his breath trying to catch up with the rest of his lips. His words weren't urgent, however they were of importance. "Sir Veleraen, Sir Veleraen! The Imperial Inquisitor Parreyon Syndicus wishes to speak with you. He says it is important." Veleraen turned around and looked at the young messenger with a smile. "Very well, tell him I will be there in ten minutes." With a quick nod, the messenger ran off and the Giant Knight turned to his pupils. "Well, it is sorry to say, our lesson will be cut short by a candlemark or so. Go and make sure that the stables are tended to and help the stable boys clean and brush the horses. It will teach you a lesson in patience and attention to detail. A knight needs both of those and much more. Go."
The two squires ran off as Veleraen took a deep breath and smiled. He had liked being a mentor to some of the squires, even though he hadn't taken one of his own. It had not felt right and with word that Parreyon wanted to speak with him, his brightening had gotten a little bit brighter as he hadn't spoken to the Katta since their trip to the Isle of the Crown.
After a few minutes, the loud footsteps approached the entrance to the building where Parreyon's office was located and stood outside to his full fifteen feet assuming that the Katta was going to be coming down to talk to him. There were no real buildings in Prime made for a Giant except some of the Palaces and even then it was a bit of a squeeze. He stood patiently and awaited his best friend to see what he had to say.

OOC: 3rd brightening of the first cycle of Immanis is when I met with Ogabe and Milo. Assuming you have no FT issues ... lets make this the fourth brightening of the 1st cycle of Immanis so that I don't have to wait that long to tell you what I told them
IC:
The messenger had returned and told Parreyon that Vel would be a a quarter of a candlemark away. Parreyon smiled and dismissed the messenger looking around his new office and the lack of decor the place had. All of his belongings he'd kept in previous belongings such as his silver scimitars and Alyssan elite full Plate Armor were kept in his private study at his home. He had yet to decide if he wanted to stay completely new and fursnish his new office with different items or continue with his 'from then to now' style of memorabilia. He was kind of thinking that he wanted to go new but was still unsure. Parreyon hadn't even gone out and found himself a secretary yet, so maybe there was something in him that still needed to break in order to let him relax into his new position.
After waiting a quarter of a candlemark ... and hearing rather large footsteps coming this way ... he stood up and straightened out his clothes. Feeling rather excited over the idea of once again working with his old friend and protege, a slim smile cracked his lips. He had not even thought of the fact that Vel might not want the position. there was no reason Vel would desire to take it after all. Being one of the head of The Knights of the Black Rose was no small accomplishment and carried with it a severe badge of honor and pride ... two traits that Parr had pushed on Vel during his squireship even though the giant had them buried in his own personal code already. that was what made Vel such a unique and outstanding knight. He'd had a knights heart from the moment Parr had met him.
Parr strolled outside to meet his one time squire and dear friend. Once he exited the front door, he found Vel outside waiting. Parr offered a respectful bow and large smile. "It is good to see you once again; this time under more friendly circumstances than the last. Come and walk with me old friend. We have much information to discuss." Parr had been refering to their trip to the isle and the great battle that had taken place ... along with Parreyon and Praaal's rebirth.
Parreyon led Vel to the inner workings of the Imperial Compound. He liked surrounding himself with the military and had remained silent while taking the short trek from the office to the compound gates. It was only once they were inside that Parr began to talk.
"I am not sure if you are aware, but just yesterbrightening I was raised to the position of Imperial Inquisitor, head of the Imperial Sel'Rakrya. Quite an honored ... and scarey title in all truth.
This Empire is not exactly pleased to hear any word that has the term 'Rakrya' in it after Julos the Mad. Not only that but in the brightenings of past, The Sel'Rakrya was an organization of spies and intelligence. Though a good concept, the Sel'Rakrya were not necessarily good men.
Ogabe K'tinga, our Imperial Judicator, had sent many letters to evey city informing them of the plan for the new Sel'Rakrya as well as assistance from the cities' Aediles to provide buidlings to house the contingents of Sel'Rakrya personnel that would reside in each city. This was met with resistance from Malkaer Andares, Lieutenant Governor of Lauryl, via a herald article that eventually got him arrested. Though the situation was resolved, it only resonated the opinions of many who are not comfortable with any 'Rakrya' organization or group.
I have many desires and plans for this new order, one of those first being to recreate the faith of the Sel'Rakrya in the eyes of the people through out the Empire. But let me first begin by telling you what the true function of the Sel'Rakrya is." Parreyon hoped Vel was beginning to wonder how precisely any of this was having to do with the giant. He had to lay the bait before catching the fish.
"The true function of the Sel'Rakrya is to aid law enforcement with criminals who try and cross provincial borders to go beyond of the boundry of the current prefect or justicar. We will work in conjunction with the local law enforcement to bring these villains to justice. It sounds simple enough, does it not?
My problem is that who would trust 'Rakrya'? As I said before I need to change the face of this group to aid in the transition of the Sel'Rakrya into the public eye. To do so, I have decided to create a special knight force that will help bring down the biggest criminals still uncaught. Our local units will work with the justicars, prefects, and constabularies to establish the right people to go after, and then the knight unit will arrive on scene to finish the deal. Knights are still revered and respected by the community and thus my reson to make this special force a knight force.
Now I know you've been wondering why i'm talking to you about all this, but now comes the point. I want a man of true integrity and honor to lead this knight unit. I need a man that has no criminal past nor a dark blemish that can be seen by any eye. I need a man of valour and pride that will do this job for the sake of The Empire, The Crown, and The People with no hint of self desire or gratification. Vel, I need you ... what do you think?"

OOC: Done.
He had not been kept waiting very long as the Knight heard a door open behind him and as he turned to see who it was, his old friend and Knight mentor was standing there, greeting him with a bow and a smile. "Ah, Sir Syndicus! It is indeed good to see you again, haha." Veleraen was in a cheerful mood, the Giant not having seen his best friend in a while made the visit even more enjoyable. The Knight returned the bow with a long head bow and a smile of his own as Parreyon asked the Knight to walk with him. Veleraen followed suit, a little curious as to the purpose of the visit. Perhaps Sir Syndicus wishes to talk, but about what? Important information to discuss?
Veleraen gave another slight nod and followed Sir Syndicus through the Imperial Compound, something he saw almost every brightening. The hustle and bustle of it was always a pleasure to him like it was to Sir Syndicus, the whole military lifestyle being on a whole, pleasing to the eyes and ears. It instilled him with a sense of duty and it gave him one of many reasons to get up in the morning. Their short trek was silent but brief and as Parreyon mentioned his rise to Imperial Inquisitor and Head of the Imperial Sel'Rakyra, Veleraen grinned and gave a quick nod. "Congratulations." He said quickly in a low but sincere tone, not wanting to interrupt the Katta's stream of words.
It was quite an undertaking and an achievement in itself. Becoming the head of an Empire wide criminal investigative unit was one thing but doing so at the recommendation of the Imperial Judicator was extraordinary. In any case, Veleraen was quite pleased that Sir Syndicus had found his niche of sorts as he heard the news through gossip around the Imperial Forum itself. It wasn't hard to hear about such things in such a short period of time.
Not surprised in the least, Veleraen knew that the Empire didn't like the word Sel'Rakyra. The Giant hadn't come to any point in his military career before the old faction that had been lead by Julos the Mad had been dispelled and he hadn't really known a whole lot about it before but had done a bit of reading up on past events that he had been isolated by in the past of living in a remote area of the Heartlands. He had heard of the herald article involving Lieutenant Governor Andares and the Knight had wondered why anyone would resist such an idea of cross Empire force to hunt and bring criminals to justice. It was in the best of the Empire and its people to rid the provinces of border jumpers and criminals who didn't want to be caught. With each word Parreyon spoke, Veleraen's curiousity spiked even higher, ever more curious as to why the Inquisitor was telling him all of this.
Veleraen could see that Parreyon had a vision for the Sel'Rakrya and as he mentioned the tasks of the organization and then what he wanted to do to brighten its image by creating a Knightly unit, Veleraen grinned as he pretty much knew what the Katta was about to ask of him. A few moments later, Veleraen stopped in his tracks as Parreyon told the Giant he needed him and the Knight stood in silence as he contemplated the decision.
It was not an easy one to make to say the least. Veleraen had been apart of the Order of the Black Rose for a few eras now and he had worn his position with pride and honour. He had taken and sworn an oath of protection and loyalty to the Crown and its leader, Regent, Emperor, Empress or otherwise and yet this request was almost making him do the same thing, but this time he was being asked to hunt down the criminals that would not just do harm to the leader of such an Empire but to its people as well.
"I am flattered Sir Syndicus...This is all quite a surprise to me....I; Veleraen took a deep breath and looked over the Compound where they were standing and imagined that it was on fire and with dead bodies everywhere. That was one of the many results that could have been set forth upon them if he did not take this job. Not only would he be putting very dangerous men away for life, he would be protecting those he had sworn to protect in the first place. In Veleraen's mind, he was not abandoning the morals and ethics he had sworn to in the first place, he was merely adding onto the responsibility that was placed upon his shoulders in the beginning and now it was an even heavier load as he was asked to do this job by his best friend and now Imperial Inquisitor.
As the Giant stared and thought, a crack of a smile and realization came upon his face as he contemplation came to an end and he looked down at Parreyon and nodded slowly. "I think....I think I can help you old friend." The Giant let out a belly chuckle as he whole heartedly accepted the position. "I gladly accept your offer. It would do me great honour to serve under you once again." He kept smiling and let out a deep sigh. "I hope the Regent will understand of my taking this job. I have had reservations about standing outside all brightening with little to do but guard the Palace. Do not get me wrong, it is a duty I take very seriously, however my life lately has been lacking.....What is the word...Excitement." Veleraen chuckled and realized the past words of his former Knight mentor on the duties of such a position. "...It will not be glamorous..." Parreyon had been right and Veleraen, while with good intentions, needed a change of scenery.
"So, you want me to lead a Knightly unit? Will this unit consist of more men like me? Or am I going in alone? Either way, it does not matter to me, just as long as some criminals are brought to justice and the reputation of the new Sel'Rakyra is not tarnished, then I have done my job." A smirk appeared on the Giant's rugged face as a feeling of excitement on his new task was getting him riled up. "I have a feeling you have a task in mind for me....Let me guess....There's a drug lord out in the Arakmatan desert you need me to find?" The giant let out a small joke as he pried Parreyon for information. Interrogation was one of his specialties, he just never told anyone about it. That was another subject by itself that Veleraen would have to bring up afterwards as he felt that these criminals or their informants weren't going to give up information without a little bit of a licking. Either way, Veleraen was ready to do his duty and carry it out with the fervor and determination he did everything else and no one was going to get in his way.

Parreyon smiled now actually knowing what he's suspected all along that Vel would accept the offer. His only moment of doubt had come when the Knight Giant had made his approach upon Parreyon's office. It was in that moment that he realized that if Vel were to say no, he had no other candidate in mind to run such an elitist group. With no one to lead them, thier creation wouldn't even make it off the ground. Hearing Vel's words had put Parreyon's mind to rest.
"We get the distinct pleasure of creating everything from the ground up, my friend. I'll await is to hear the wishes of our boss, The Imperial Judicator, so that I can figure how to intermix my desires with his demands. I think it will be an easy task actually, and I hope to create some anymosity from a political level in changing the way all criminal organizations run. I hate how even within the provinces that the constables do not communicate with the other cities in thier area. I also hate that there isn't even a provincial task for to hunt down criminals in the first place.
Think about it, commit a crime in one city and then run to the next. The constable won't leave his city to hunt the man down because he has other criminal elements to worry about. He just hangs a wanted poster and then leave the occurance alone. sure, he might have the poster sent to other cities in the region but nothing more. No one is out there scrounging the countryside around the cities trying to capture villains. The Justicar is busy holding high crime cases. He is a judge not a policing force. We have seen a few men, such as Ogabe, rise above the call to duty and act as investigator as well, but it is not a part of the job description.
My desire is to unify all of the constabularies around the Empire into one functioning unit. From there create city positions, Provincial positions, and Imperial Positions that would all answer to me. If there is a need for help, it would be easier to achieve. Not too mention that bountying hunting in reality is against the law so wanted posters are pretty much asking someone to break the law which makes us hypocrites from the get go. We need to take control of tracking down criminals into our own hands again.
Your part in this would be as head of the new order of knights. I have no idea exactly how to incorporate them nor do I have any volunteers. We will build this team from scratch so that it can be modled to our exact specifications. You also will serve as Second in Command in the Sel'Rakrya under me. Your primary role will be the knights.
Any thoughts or questions so far?" Parreyon asked as they passed by the martial training grounds where soldiers were pacticing the various styles of Zinn'Ka. Parreyon stopped at that point watching the men work out. This was a particular area of enjoyment for him remembering brightenings past when he had spent candlemark after candlemark doing the same thing as a young member of the Imperia Suns. He watched with a smile on his face while waiting to see what Vel had to say.

It seemed Parreyon came up with these ideas at the right time or at least in Veleraen's mind he did. Ever since he had talked to that gypsy during Selhaim and had flipped over that card with the toddler on it, representing himself in limbo, had he wondered when he was going to continue on with his life. This was the chance, right here, right now and there didn't seem to be a downside to such an opportune job offer.
As the Inquisitor carried on with his description of the Unit and their duties, Veleraen nodded quietly, liking the sound of what was to become of him and his future. Starting from scratch might have been more work but in the end, the Knight could see it working out much better than having everything pre-arranged from the beginning. He also liked the sound of being second in command of the Sel'rakyra itself, something the Giant had never envisioned himself becoming.
"Well, I must say, this is all quite exciting Sir Syndicus. Crowns and supplies are not an issue for me. You could write down an unknown number and I would take it as money is of no consequence, so that I have no concerns about. I guess the only real matter is....When do I start and what is my first task? Veleraen grinned and patted Parreyon on the shoulder, as lightly as he could without hurting the Katta. After all, he was the Pantheri offering him the job. Hurting the boss on the first brightening of work didn't look too good on a resume.

Parreyon could not help but laugh at Veleraen's comment while staggering to maintain balance after the friendly 'pat' by a giant. Not regarding the where do I start or what is my first task, but about the pay. "It is good to know that you have no qualms over pay, as either do I, for I have no idea what your pay would be. I don't even know what my pay is yet!" Parreyon continued to laugh and took a moment to catch his breath not realizing that the idea of a pay scale had not occured to him.
"Our first task will be to speak with Milo on the subject. The other brightening when I had my meeting to discuss this with Milo and Ogabe, i'd told them my plan to bring you into the fold. I promised Milo we'd set up a meeting to inform him of your decision. I believe that this meeting should be aranged my you. He needs to hear your words in order to understand the desires of your heart. At least that is how I see it. Other than that, once we've completed your release from the Black Rose, we'll schedule our first official meeting and begin the process of deciding how to run the knights, along with things like proper training of all the men, titles or ranks within all the Sel'Rakrya, and how to go about recruiting. for now, let us take our leave. Send word to my house once you have arranged the meeting. Until that time, be safe my friend, and welcome to the Sel'Rakrya!"
with all the business concluded, Parreyon needed to get back to his job. He had a lot of paper work to shuffle through and plans to make. His first promised task had been the finalization of the facilities in every city. He had no plans to fail in his first task.

Listening intently as to Parreyon's plans on the whole Sel'rakyra issue, Veleraen gave him a chance to recover from the 'pat' on the shoulder and let him continue. It was like old times and Veleraen could not see himself doing anything else.
As for leaving the Black Rose, it was going to be hard to talk to Milo about it, but then again, he knew the Regent was understanding and the man would always have the Knight's allegiance and support.
"Very well Sir Syndicus. I shall contact the Regent and then send word to you as soon as I have spoken with him. I will try my best to come up with ideas for our first official meeting. Until then." Veleraen gave him a bow of the head and a shake of the hand before he left, departing the Compound and heading for his own tent home in the Imperial Citadel grounds to write Milo a letter to arrange a meeting.
