[Imperial Court] Offices of the Imperial Magus and the Arcane Bureau

The offices of the Bureau of the Arcane and home to the Lord Imperial Magus is located along the southern edge of the Imperial Forum. The Bureau is a large three story building that grants the impression of grandeur. Sheathed in white marble the building presented a impressive image to all visitor. The ground floor was dominated by the entrance to the stately building. A large half circler porch extended outward the outer edge of the porch were made of large marble columns that supported a ceiling for the porch. Resting atop the porches roof is a large statue that the causal observer appeared to be little more than abstract art. To the trained eye one could see the bore the symbols of the arcane fields.

The front of the second floor was faced with large windows that appeared to be curtained against the unwanted eyes. Along the third floor was a large stained glass window that recreated the image of Diana’s final battle. From the ground though it was hard to tell all of the details of the finally crafted window. The doors to the Bureau were large oak that considering the building the belonged to were strangle plain.

The entrance to the Bureau was designed to greet visitors. Polished wooden boards covered the floor. On the floor was a soft and large black and red silk carpet that stretched down the middle of the chamber towards the back of the room. Located in the center of the carpet was the crest of the bureau of the Arcane. Either side of the carpet was flanked by a couch made of cherry wood and polished till they gleamed. The couches were also over stuffed and had flora patterns in reds and gold.

At the end of the carpet was a large desk also made of the same polished cherry wood as the couches. The owner of the desk was a young elf female. She was sitting behind the desk filling out paper work seeming to be very bus but as visitor approached the desk she would stand and bow to them. While clearly and elf, she lacked the elven beauty that so marked the race, she wasn’t ugly, but almost plain looking. Her skin a dark grey that was off set by her black hair and light brown eyes.

Good brightening. After looking over the details of your proposed release to the Herald, I find no immediate objections in spirit, to the proposed structural adjustments to the Arcane Bureau. However, I do ask that prior to officially implementing or advertising any such changes as may result in additional staffing, operational costs and salaries, should funding for said additions not be already available within the totality of the Bureau’s present budget, a detailed proposal should then be forwarded by your offices to the Ministry of Finance for study and consideration, so that officials there may ascertain whether or not sufficient funding may be reasonably allocated and redirected for these purposes prior to final approval - Or otherwise suggest adjustments to such a proposal that may ease the allocation of funding and as a result, ultimate approval.

Having read your notice in the Herald I am writing to inform you of my intent to apply to the Mage Council. I shall arrive in Prime within your interview period and make further inquires at your office.

In this time of troubles, Ikos as a relatively new sphere of less then ten era's has few practioners. And those it does possess must be nurtured to their fullest potential, many within and without the sphere would call it heretical. This is of course a farce, as you would surely agree. Should I blaspheme the Gods that they would strike me down? Well, they do not. Gods have far more important things to be going on with.

So little wonder that such a sphere as Ikos would exist, one of chances, fates, and probabilities. It is for these reasons I would apply to this esteemed position, I shall bring my creditials which you will find more then satisfactory. I am still in contact with my Masters when I can be, and they represent the two premier Arcane institutions that teach Ikos in Alleria.

Indeed, it seems you do so already, for I was particularly glad to hear that the appointment of Provincial Magus would be conducted with the wishes of the Governor in mind. Your civic service has lent you a subtlety and respect absent from many of the new Imperial Elite, and that is something I believe a virtue in any statesman.

I will be attending the Gala at the end of the season, for the Social Season in Lauryl was cut short by the re-routing of money into the roads and other public works. I would be glad to meet with you in Prime, either before or after the Gala, as I intend to spend some cycles in the City.

Carmelyana 4th brightening of the first cycle of Kalendryas in the season of winter Era II of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIV Post Fractum, the Second Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne

Having just arrived in Alleria Prime. Janis thought it would be a very good idea to try and make some contacts. Janis had met some people here and there over his travels and if any of them were in Prime, he might as well stop in and say hello. One of those people was Atl Myrsa.

Having kept up with the news, it seems his acquaintance from Mysteria had found his way into the appointment of Imperial Magus. A position once held by the veritable Duncan Scythe. Indeed, Janis had fought beside the archmystic in the battle of Zerdargia though he didn't know this because he had been in disguise. Regardless, Janis would have tried to see a familiar face no matter if he was the local tanner or the Regent Milo himself. He was happy to know someone in Prime regardless of rank. Although being on good standing with the Imperial Magus probably would not be a bad thing in the least

Janis looked to make sure his horse and items were secure before he headed towards the marble pillars that made up the entrance to the offices. As he put his hand to the door he paused for a moment, thinking he should probably make himself as presentable as possible. He overcoat covered up most of what was a hopelessly wrinkled green shirt. And bits of dirt or whatever else he tried to wipe away and with a few pats he attempted to flatten out his hair. Travel is a messy business.

With that he entered and approached the table with the plain looking female elf. She stood and bowed and Janis rather uncomfortable accepted and did an awkward half bow back. A slight nervous laugh showed bowing was really not something he was all that used to as a form of greeting. But this was an official place with important business and people coming by so it was proper.

She asked how she may help him and Janis nodded and began. "Well, ya see, I was wondering if Atl...erm the Magus, um Mr. Mysra? was in?" He wasn't sure how he was addressed in these parts now. "I am a friend of his from Mystique. I have just arrived in Prime and should very much like a hello of he is in."

Friend? Was that too strong of a word. No, he was a nice man. A good man. And they had both enjoyed one anothers company. Plus, it made him not seem like he was just some wacko trying to see an high ranking official. "Tell him Janis Windrough calls for him." He added. Hopefully the name would ring a bell.

The receptionist looked at the man who had entered and nodded her head. "I will ask if he is avalible." She motioned to one of the couches. "Please take a seat, and I will let you know." She picked up a bell and rang it sharply before retuning it to a desk. Pulling out a slip of parchment she scribbled down a note. A door closed in the back and a black robed youth joined them. "Please take this to His Imperial Excellency." She handed the note to the young man.

"Oh course." the boys voices squeak for a moment before falling back to a bass. He turned and stepped out of the room , as the woman returned to watching the doors. They were alone for about ten minutes before the page returned. 'Please follow me sir." He said bowing to Janis.

The messenger was a local man who was well used to the winding corridors of power within the palace and with no little skill he found the offices of the imperial mage and handed over the letter which was sealed with the waxen impression of the coat of arms of the western province.

My apologies for the delay in answering your letter of the 1st of Kalendryas . As you can see my correspondence is delayed as I am taking a short hiatus in the capitol. I shall be delighted to receive the Provincial Magus as and when the candidate is appointed to Arakmat. It occurs to me that such a senior person should be invited to serve on the provincial council in much the same capacity as the senior legion Kestor does. A view of the arcane from such a figure would I am sure illuminate such meetings.

We in Arakmat have only one established arcane group based in Silrosia the “Aesoteric Circle” comprises of eight senior magi drawn from the elfish tradition each a proven master of one of the eight magic disciplines [including necromancy]

I would suggest to you my lord that any attempt to bring this very powerful circle into the Imperial fold would have to be approached with the greatest sensitivity.

The history of Silrosia is full of attempts to bring the elf further into the family of the empire but it is my opinion that at theses times of uncertainty it might prove best to leave the Silrosian Circle to their own devices until at least a sense of calm and good sense bless the empire again.
