[Ministry of Defense] The Imperial Admiral's Despatches
Timestamp: 1 Cryxatum, Spring in the First Era in the Regency of Milo L'Evienne
An office within walking distance from that of the Minister of Defense had been commandeered for use of the Imperial Admiral. Comprised of a suite of rooms that included a sufficiently large desk and several subsidiary ones, several couches, an anteroom and an attached conference room, Alexis Sapientia had staffed it appropriately with no less than five marines, and a nearly equal number of naval officers and ratings. It would serve as his communications hub for the meantime, and a place for him to hang his hat in cases when the Minister sought fit to summon him for command conferences or meetings of the Imperial War Council.
As Alexis had said during his first meeting with the katta, he wanted to show his sailors that he lead from the prow, and wasn't another one of those typical quarterdeck zetons, too fat to fight; hence his reluctance to hold office in the Ministry proper, though he did understand the need to maintain close communication with it, all the same.
Hence his designating the office as his central mail depository, where all communications for him or the Classis were to be directed.

Two marines in full dress guarded the entrance to the anteroom, where an officer in naval uniform sat busy on a desk, sorting out letters from one big leather bag into several smaller ones. Two navits sat on a couch close by, one busy tying rope on the end of another similar bag, while another stood ready to carry out the other. Another, more senior officer sat on a larger and more prominent desk close to where double doors remained locked, himself, busy propping his head up with his left hand, while the other wrote.

Pala chuckled as he read the letter the young man who had quite disgracefully tried unsuccessfully to seduce his wife in his own home had come a long way since that last meeting. Pala bore Alexis no ill since that episode and in fact that he rather liked the young scallywag. There had been changes in both their lives since that Roslyn but they could be caught up over a noggin of grog one brightening. He drew paper and pen towards him and began to pen a reply, a smile creasing his face.

Dear Admiral
How delightful to hear from you again .May I express my heartfelt congratulations on your appointment to the Admiralty I am certain that our navy will flourish over the duration of your watch.
To business ~ I am pleased to report as I have recently done to the Imperial Regent that everything is ship shape in the Northern Reaches. Unlike other provinces I am pleased to report that peace is the norm. However that subtle state of affairs is not a matter of complacency and requires a steadfast and constant manning of the yardarms of observation.
The matter of Roland Moonstar is resolved and he has taken a sabbatical to Nexus Prime. The province of Carmelyn still prospers under the watch of Aerinne Sarista. My consulate in Eunasia reports no problems on the islands that would call on the considerable skills of the navy. Centripax lives up to its name and lives in peace within its land locked borders although there are rumours of underground towns that bear investigation.
I am still under advisement visa vie the Imperial Protectorate but the regent assures me that the return of Jaedaxia to the provincial fold is a matter of some importance and no doubt we shall receive our instructions on that matter in the fullness of time.
My information sources have been quiet on the matter of Demios and it comes as a small surprise that there are games afoot on the fire islands. I shall be taking your warning on board and will look into this matter as a matter of priority.
I am never sanguine that all is well at all times , vigilance is the watchword but I believe that my area of responsibility is well down on the navies list of potential hotspots for the moment at least .
I shall be returning to Alleria Prime by the fourth cycle of the month of Aperitus and perhaps if your diary would allow it we could meet for a chat and a glass I should like to congratulate you on your marriage and perhaps splice the main brace as you naval chaps seem to be so keen on doing!
May all your seas be calm
Palacrisis D Jones.
The messenger was standing to attention before the admiral’s clerk as he handed over the letter sealed in red wax with the consulate seal of crossed quills over interlocked capital letters N&R.

Suffering from the same slowness that plagued the original letter, Riconus' response to Alexis came at a sluggish pace, but nevertheless, it had arrived in proper condition. Perhaps the Provost Imperatis would opt for a mage to teleport his message should a second response be necessary.

C/O GENERAL HEADQUARTERS OF THE WESTERN IMPERIAL HOST
SYL'ROSYA, ARAKMAT PROVINCE
Dear Alexis,
Thank you for your congratulations, but I understand that business must be addressed immediately.
Unfortunately, to say the situation in Imperia, and indeed in all of Arakmat, to be dire would be an underestimation. The Provincial Government appears to be crumbling, as my intelligence agents have reported the resignation of both Governor Sa'Napenthes and Lieutenant Goernor Gil'dae, leaving not only a leaderless region, but one without any successor to a proper administration. Furthermore, I have heard that Imperia's new thane is some vigilante that incited rioting upon the 11th Legion's movement into the city? Perhaps you have heard a more solid story regarding the situation, but regardless, the city's governance is still slim to non-existent.
The mention of the 11th Legion brings into question another problem; where they should be placed. Syl'rosyans believe that deploying them elsewhere was an Imperial measure to seperate the Shining Host from its comradery with the city, and are calling for the return of their loved ones trying to restabilize more fragile areas of the province. Imperians, however, see it as the first step towards an elven invasion, and rejected the legion's assistance from the moment they appeared over the horizon. And all the while, I'm forced to follow orders that I not only don't believe, but don't understand how the move can come to its desired conclusion.
I plan to make a trip to Imperia, now that Kestor Imperatis Yssn Fal Sulas has been able to "cut a deal" with the city's thane, allowing Legionnaires through the gates. I do not retain a great deal of optimism in finding the docks and piers of Imperia in good shape, as the meteroid shower has brought much of the city, including the harbourfront, to ruins. I would encourage you to send whatever supplies available by sea, but considering the Ministry's tardiness in responding to the requests of my Kestor Imperatii, you would have to employ your own action in order for relief to arrive in time.
I apologize if this letter has put you into a more depressive mood, Admiral. It was not my intention, however, unforunately, such is the sad truth here in Arakmat. Give my warmest regards to Liselle for me, and perhaps one brightening, you, I, her, and Rhiannon will have enough seconds in our schedules to sit down and talk for a while.
Yours Respectfully,
Provost Imperatis Riconus Xind'ell
Grand General of the Western Imperial Host

It is with great nervousness that we watched the cargo ship Penelope simply vanish upon the seas. This is the fifth Alleria Prime registered ship this month to go missing after a record six the month before. The only thing I hear is rumors of water-bandits operating out of coves situated in the coastline of Prime Province.
Also, there seems to be an uptick of smuggling, but my office does not have the resources to carry out justice after our budget was slashed due to collection shortfalls...

Salutations from the Waterfront of Imperia. I will not presume to speak for the dignataries to whom you addressed your letter but I am pleased to advise you that though the Dock area of Imperia was devastated by the meteorites, at present sea commerce has been restored, businesses on the Waterfront are operating once again and additionally new enterprises have been developed.
Order has been restored throughout the Waterfront and we now enjoy an absence ot looting and scavenging. A new found enterprise, Imperia Rescue and Salvage has taken control of business on the Waterfront. Several damaged ships were salvaged, repaired and are now plying the seas once again. Tax revenues from the Waterfront have not only been restored but they continue to increase.
Fair winds and a Following Sea,

It was already past mid brightening when a familiar figure made way into the anteroom, familiar if only by way of his manner of dress. A Knight of the Order of the Black Rose and dressed in the uniform of the same, Sir James was a human of middling patterns with blonde hair cropped short and kind brown eyes that revealed an otherwise soft-spoken and kind disposition beneath the expected, well trained exterior.
A small scroll was gripped in Sir James’ gloved hand, tied off with black velvet ribbon and fixed with the Imperial seal. Approaching the desk, he greeted the officer there with a quiet tilt of his head before stating his business. ”Serale sir. My name is Sir James, Knight of the Order of the Black Rose. I have been sent by his Most Imperial Excellency to personally deliver a missive into the hands of the Imperial Admiral. Is he available?”

Indeed the Imperial Admiral was available for his Commander-in-Chief, the senior uniformed officer of the Imperial Navy having been ensconced in the same conference room, busy poring over the figures for the navy budget along with a few more officers. No sooner had the Knight of the Order of the Black Rose come in then did Alexis Sapientia bid temporary riddance to the mess of numbers, and greet the fellow with a wide smile, albeit with some foreboding.
After all, it wasn't every brightening that one received a personal messenger from the Sovereign ad interim of the Allerian Empire. Considering the lad's position, one could say, once every other brightening. Most of the Imperial communications came by way of the Minister's office, a few hardy steps away.
Standing up from his chair, he closed the conference room doors on the other officers, bidding the Knight entry to his more spacious and more welcoming office.
"Sir...James, I think it was? Alexis Sapientia, Imperial Admiral. How may I help you?"

It seemed ever the case that when one came face to face with a Knight of the Black Rose, there resulted at least a trace of nervous energy in the air. Most especially, it seemed, when that liveried Knight didn’t happen to be in the immediate vicinity of the monarch he watched over. A Roseman sent on an official errand seemed to set folks a bit on edge, though in this case it was surely not the intention, but it was enough to have Sir James smiling in greeting, and with a goodly amount of understanding. Why he could only imagine how the Regent himself had reacted when one such Knight showed up in the Sherian Consulate with a summons for himself.
”Indeed, Admiral Sapientia,” the middle aged human responded in regards to his name, then produced a small scroll from an inner pocket of his tunic. Rolled tight and bound with a wide length of black ribbon, marked with the Imperial seal it was unmistakable when he handed it over. ”A request from His Most Imperial Excellency sir.”

Alexis,
I would far rather have it that the nature of this summons was more in keeping with the sharing of fine liquor, good cigars and a long overdue face to face extending of my congratulations for your rise to a post well deserved. Unfortunately this is not the case and I must speak to you, this brightening if at all possible, of official matters related to a meeting between officers of the Ministry of War, the Legions and the Classis that occurred on Ponutis thirty-nine of this past season.
At this time I am engaged in a number of meetings related to this particular concern, but anticipate that in three candlemarks time a little fresh air might do me a world of good. Please advise Sir James whether or not your calendar will accommodate such short notice. If it does not, he has been given my leave to reschedule. If you find that your schedule does allow such a meeting, do not concern yourself with securing an appropriate mount. The stables positioned on the edge of the Parklands have a number of fine animals on hand.
Regards,
Milo

Alexis Sapientia took the proferred document, reading it with a furrowed brow that lightened only as full understanding came clear. Turning to look above his shoulder, he made a curt decision.
"Mister Berlitz has the watch for the moment, everyone else, stand fast," said the young man, setting pressure to his heel, leaving the Roseman to follow suit. He only paused on leaving the double doors, where two marines saluted, only to look back at Sir James with a quizzical look.
"The Imperial Palace, I take it, Sir James?"
His look was hopeful, but cerulean eyes turned gray. For whatever it was worth, it seemed that his cousin Rhiannon's husband would be having a terribly bad day today.

Inwardly speaking, Sir James might admit that the Admiral’s quick agreement and readiness was uncommonly good news. Of course, he’d no direct knowledge of the events that had paraded any number of officials through the Regent’s offices and sent Rosemen scampering here and there throughout most of the brightening, wasn’t his business to mind or speak of, but he was certainly sharp enough to conclude that whatever the exact nature of it all, it had surely worn on his, collectively speaking of Rosemen, otherwise jovial charge.
”No, Excellency,” he corrected the young fellow with a smile while trailing him through the doors. ”To the Stables aside of the Parklands.”

Alexis,
Given the recent and mysterious reappearance of the Isle of the Crown, I’ve an official request in regards to insuring the safety of those who might be tempted to indulge their curiosity by way of venturing too close to the Isle at this time, as well as in an effort to maintain the integrity of the Isle itself in advance of a future effort to organize a Rite of Succession. There will soon be an official expedition organized, a group to be escorted by myself in fact to the Isle in order to assess what risks, or lack thereof, might exist at this time. In light of mentioned concerns, I ask that you might place patrols in the waters surrounding the Isle so to prevent any and all unauthorized landings.
Regards,
Milo L’Evienne

Oracle of Oak, Syl'rosya
I write this letter to you in the name of the people of Syl'rosya. The people have been plagued for some time now by a creature of a most foul disposition. Said creature is that of the species of Kraken which has taken up residence in the harbor of Syl'rosya. Since the creature has made the harbor its home it has been sinking ships left and right making commerce a hard thing to maintain between Syl'rosya and the rest of the Empire.
We ourselves have found no way to dispatch of the creature, we are unable to set ships on it for it sinks them. It is also seems quite impervious to our magical assaults, even from those of our druids. Which brings me to the reason why I write this letter to you know. I ask that you send a contingent of ships to the aid of Syl'rosya. If somehow you are able to strike the creature down or force it to leave the harbor for deeper waters we would be eternally grateful.
Please send any replies to the Oracle of Oak to the office of the Prefect.
